Chapter 463: Shattering the Legend!
Mamoswine put its full weight into the charge, its four powerful legs churning
the frozen earth.
Ice Fang Charge was Rio's masterpiece: a high-stakes combination of Sheer Cold,
Ice Fang, and Giga Impact. The destructive potential was astronomical. In the
Pokémon world, Mamoswine were known as "Mountain-Movers," and with the
enhancement of Absolute Zero, those tusks became harder than diamond and colder
than the vacuum of space.
As the prehistoric beast accelerated, it looked like a runaway freight train.
Across the field, Slaking's expression didn't waver. He didn't coil to dodge.
Instead, he slowly opened his palms, extending his arms toward the incoming
mammoth. He was going to try and catch it barehanded.
Rio's knuckles turned white as she clenched her fists. She had absolute
confidence in this move. With the Absolute Zero proc, there was a literal chance
for an instant-KO. To Rio, Kenji wasn't just being arrogant; he was being
suicidal. She expected to see the ape's arms shattered and his body impaled in
the next second.
The distance closed. Ten meters... five meters...
Suddenly, the "dead-fish" look in Slaking's eyes vanished. For the first time in
the tournament, he looked focused. His muscles didn't just bulge; they expanded,
his skin tightening over chords of high-tension fiber.
Hiss!
Slaking's palms erupted in searing, orange flames.
"SHHHH-BOOM!"
The mammoth slammed into him. The collision of fire and absolute frost created a
massive eruption of steam that hissed violently into the air.
Slaking's massive frame was shoved back. His feet dug into the arena floor, his
heels acting as hydraulic brakes that plowed two deep, jagged trenches through
the rock. He skidded back ten meters... fifteen meters...
"HOUUUUU!"
The beast let out a low, vibrating growl. His feet finally locked.
The momentum had stopped.
Mamoswine was still frantically digging its hooves into the dirt, trying to push
through, but it was like trying to shove a mountain. Slaking stood immovable,
his hands clamped like iron vices around the mammoth's frozen tusks.
The power dynamic shifted. Mamoswine had exhausted its kinetic energy; Slaking,
on the other hand, was just getting started.
"HOUUUUU!"
With a guttural roar, Slaking began to lift.
Rio's eyes nearly bulged out of her head. In the stands, the international
spectators stood up in a collective wave of disbelief.
He was lifting it. He was actually lifting a Level 97, multi-ton Mamoswine off
the ground by its face.
The mammoth's front legs left the dirt. Then its back legs. It began to thrash,
its small eyes filled with a sudden, existential dread, but it was helpless.
Slaking's grip was absolute.
"HOU!"
Slaking funneled the entirety of his Level 87 stat-pool into his shoulders. With
a violent wrench, he didn't just lift the pig—he flipped it. He swung his arms
in a massive arc, turning the Mamoswine completely upside down in mid-air.
Rio's heart skipped a beat. A dark, sickening premonition flooded her mind.
"NO!" she screamed.
Too late.
Slaking gripped the tusks and brought the mammoth down with the force of a
falling moon.
Hammer Arm!
THOOM!
The impact shook the entire High-Sovereign Arena. The ground beneath Mamoswine
disintegrated into a crater of shattered stone and dust. The beast didn't even
have the strength to struggle; it lay there like a dead weight, letting out a
pained, wheezing groan.
Slaking didn't let go. He hauled the mammoth up again.
THOOM!
A second Hammer Arm. The Mamoswine was now essentially a slab of meat being
tenderized.
Without a moment's pause, Slaking hauled the beast up for a third time.
CRACK! WHAM!
Two sounds echoed simultaneously. The sound of the mammoth hitting the floor for
the third time, and a sharp, crystalline snap.
Slaking slowly let go and stepped back. He didn't open his hands.
As the dust settled, the world saw what he was holding.
In Slaking's palms were two massive, ivory-white tusks. They were still
radiating a faint, sub-zero mist, but the base of the ice was jagged and
uneven—torn clean out of the mammoth's jaw by raw, unadulterated physical
force.
Rio stared, her mouth agape, her face turning a ghostly shade of white.
The Mamoswine lay in the crater, its mouth bloodied, the source of its pride and
power gone. In the Pokémon world, a Mamoswine's tusks were its life. They could
regrow, but it was a grueling, multi-year process that required extreme
environmental conditions. Without them, the Pokémon's combat effectiveness was
effectively halved, and its biological growth would be stunted by the trauma.
Kenji had just permanently crippled an Elite Four's partner.
"BAKA! That damn mainlander!" Shinji Oda screamed in the Neon lounge, kicking a
chair. "He did that on purpose! That's a war crime! He's a savage!"
The other Neon Elite Four members looked grim. This wasn't just a defeat; it was
a public execution of their League's prestige.
Kenji, standing in the arena, watched Slaking casually toss the priceless tusks
onto the dirt like they were trash. The ape then yawned and reclined onto his
side, returning to his signature "Lazy" pose.
Kenji felt a slight twinge of surprise. He hadn't actually ordered the tusk-rip,
but Slaking was a creature of efficiency. If the tusks were the problem, the
tusks had to go.
"Mamoswine is unable to battle! Slaking wins!"
"Elite Four Rio has lost three Pokémon! The first half of the match has
concluded!"
The ten-minute intermission felt like an eternity for Rio. While the Huaxia fans
were in a state of celebratory riot, the Neon League's social media feeds were a
nightmare. Half the people were cursing Kenji, while the other half were calling
for Rio's resignation, labeling her a "disgrace to the Goddess title."
When she returned to the platform for the second half, her eyes were bloodshot.
She looked like a woman who had already seen her own funeral.
The second half wasn't a fight. It was a harvest.
Rio's fourth Pokémon, a Walrein, was hammered into the ground so hard by
Slaking's fist that the stadium staff had to use heavy machinery to extract it
from the crater later.
Her fifth, a Froslass, was snatched out of the air and thrown like a bowling
ball across the arena.
Finally, she was down to her last hope. Her Ace.
"Go! Abomasnow!"
"BAOOOOO!"
The massive, frost-covered tree-beast landed, and a fresh blizzard began to howl
through the stadium.
Rio's hands trembled as she reached for her Mega Bracelet. She knew Slaking had
taken minor damage from the previous five fights, but she also knew about his
Radiant Hand of Justice. With every hit he landed, he was siphoning life back.
He was effectively at full health.
"Abomasnow! Sovereign of the Frost! Mega Evolve!"
"BAOOOOOO!"
The light of evolution engulfed the arena. Rio was betting everything on this
one transformation. If her Mega Ace couldn't stop the ape, the Neon League's
reputation would be buried under the snow forever.
