Chapter 27 - Chapter 24 — The Weight of a Legend Part 4 — The First Step Beyond

The Medical Pavilion was quieter than the rest of the academy.

Outside, the corridors remained crowded with students whispering about the duel.

Inside...

Silence ruled.

Moonlight slipped through the crystal windows, painting silver patterns across the polished floor.

Staryo sat on the edge of the bed, his breathing finally steady.

Yet something still felt different.

He slowly raised his hand.

For a brief instant, countless silver threads appeared around his fingers before fading into nothingness.

"...Again."

The threads returned.

Some flowed through the walls.

Others connected to the trees outside.

A few drifted through Aru herself before vanishing.

He blinked.

The vision disappeared.

Aru placed the herbal medicine beside him.

"You've been staring at your hand for almost five minutes."

Staryo looked at her.

"I can see things I couldn't see before."

"What kind of things?"

He hesitated.

"I don't know."

"Then don't force yourself."

She sat beside him.

"The Headmaster already ordered complete rest."

Staryo smiled.

"I don't think my body agrees."

"It never does."

For the first time since the duel...

Both of them laughed.

Only briefly.

Because a knock interrupted the moment.

The door opened.

The Headmaster entered alone.

No guards.

No instructors.

No ceremony.

His calm gaze rested on Staryo.

"Can you walk?"

"I believe so."

"Good."

"I need only five minutes."

Aru stood.

"I'll wait outside."

The Headmaster nodded gratefully.

When the door closed...

The room became completely silent.

The old man approached the window.

He looked toward the ruined Star Pool Arena.

"I have served this academy for nearly eight hundred years."

"I've watched geniuses rise."

"I've watched kingdoms fall."

"I've witnessed miracles."

He turned toward Staryo.

"But never..."

"...has the Star Pool answered someone."

Staryo remained quiet.

"I don't understand what happened either."

"I believe you."

The Headmaster smiled gently.

"But understanding isn't always immediate."

He extended his hand.

A small crystal appeared.

Inside it...

A single black crack slowly expanded before repairing itself.

Again.

And again.

Without outside influence.

"What do you see?"

Staryo observed carefully.

"It keeps destroying itself."

"And?"

"It keeps rebuilding itself."

The Headmaster nodded.

"Exactly."

He closed his hand.

"The academy's healers couldn't heal you."

"They weren't supposed to."

"Your body rejected their healing."

"It chose another path."

Staryo's expression grew serious.

"The reconstruction..."

The Headmaster nodded once.

"Whatever power lives inside you..."

"...it doesn't repair."

"It reconstructs."

Before Staryo could ask another question...

The crystal suddenly exploded into harmless particles.

The Headmaster looked genuinely surprised.

"It seems..."

"...even speaking about it has limits."

He took a slow breath.

"There are answers I cannot give."

"Not because I refuse."

"But because I truly do not know."

Those words carried unexpected weight.

If even the Headmaster lacked answers...

Then whatever had awakened inside Staryo belonged to something far older.

Elsewhere...

Far beyond every known kingdom...

A colossal gate hidden beneath an endless sea emitted a faint pulse.

One.

Then another.

Ancient runes carved into its surface glowed for the first time in forgotten ages.

A voice echoed through the darkness.

"So..."

"The Fifth Awakening has begun."

Another voice answered.

"Too early."

"No."

"Exactly on time."

Silence followed.

Then one final command.

"Continue observing."

"The successor must choose his own path."

The gate returned to silence.

Back inside the academy...

The Headmaster reached the door.

Before leaving...

He stopped.

"Beginning tomorrow..."

"You will no longer be treated as an ordinary student."

Staryo frowned.

"I don't want special treatment."

"You misunderstand."

The old man smiled.

"You'll receive greater expectations."

Then he left.

Outside...

Students watched from every corridor.

Some lowered their heads respectfully.

Some stared with admiration.

Others looked away in jealousy.

The duel had ended.

But relationships had changed forever.

The Twelve Princes departed the academy carrying different emotions.

Respect.

Frustration.

Curiosity.

Determination.

Each believed the next meeting with Staryo would end differently.

None realized...

Their destinies had already become intertwined.

Late that night...

Staryo stood alone beneath the stars.

The academy slept.

The wind carried the scent of ancient cedar trees.

He looked toward the endless sky.

"So many answers..."

"...and I don't know where to begin."

For a long moment...

Nothing happened.

Then—

A single page within the Cosmic Eye Codex opened by itself.

Golden letters slowly appeared.

〈Fifth Awakening Stabilized〉

〈New Passive Ability Unlocked〉

〈Star Thread Perception〉

〈Warning: Higher perception reveals hidden truths not meant for ordinary minds. Maintain emotional stability.〉

The letters faded.

Another line appeared.

〈The path ahead begins in the Valley of Silent Stars.〉

Then...

The Codex closed.

Staryo looked toward the distant mountains where the moonlight touched the horizon.

His body still ached.

His future remained uncertain.

Yet one truth had become clear.

The duel at the Star Pool had not been the end of an arc.

It had been the first step toward a destiny capable of changing kingdoms, history... and perhaps the cosmos itself.

Behind him, unseen in the darkness, several distant figures quietly watched the academy from different directions.

None spoke.

None approached.

Each had come for a different reason.

And none intended to leave empty-handed.

The game had begun.
