Chapter 39 - the third exam (3)

After meeting with Blake both of us separated and went in opposite directions as to not obstruct the other.

Once I separated from him, I noticed that my luck in finding creatures increased. I jokingly thought that his luck managed to rub off on me.

Either way it didn't change the fact that I managed to accumulate a good number of points. In 6 hours, I managed to get at least 4 times as many points compared to what I got over the entire exam.

I even ran into quite a few new creatures; however, they weren't that special. It was mainly creatures with an elemental affinity which only had skills like charge, bite, or claw which didn't serve to give me any benefits. The only thing which was remotely unique was a shadow panther, but they only had shadow stealth and presence concealment.

After another 8 hours of this I managed to run into a legendary creature. It was a horse with pure white hair, a majestic mane, and a golden horn in the middle of its head.

-----

[Name: Unicorn]

[Level: 23]

[Rank: apprentice]

[Average stats: 13,000]

[Affinity: light (superior), nature (superior), air (advanced), water (advanced)]

[Skills: healing light, air blade, water blade, mystic blood, magic horn, emotional resonance]

-----

'It's actually a unicorn! I didn't expect that they would even have those for the exam!'

'Unicorns are some of the rarest legendary creatures, and their entire body is a magical treasure.'

'If I were to kill them imagine how much money I could make! It must be at least 500,000!'

Just thinking about how much I could gain from the unicorn made greed fill my heart, but there was one thing I overlooked. Emotional resonance could sense the emotions of those around you.

My senses instantly warned me of danger and I moved, dodging to the right.

Swish!

After I moved out of the way of the danger, I saw what the source was. In the place I was standing was a slice in the ground 5 meters tall, 2 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. Seeing this a word instantly came to my mind, "air blade."

Based on how I couldn't even see it, I instantly became cautious guessing the air blade was much more refined than my wind magic, making it nearly invisible to the naked eye.

Even though with my personality this should have made me want to retreat and not take the risk, I couldn't do that. This was a great opportunity to gain powerful skills.

Not even counting the other magical skills, I had my eye on 'mystic blood' the most out of all of the unicorn's skills.

I have read about this skill in the past and it was an extremely rare skill which could only appear in legendary or divine creatures.

This skill allowed for two things which caused me to value it highly. First is that it made the creatures blood a valuable material for any creation or magic based art, which would in the future save me the trouble of finding mystic blood when I eventually learn them. And the second reason is that the skill boost mana capacity by 10 times, and the magic stat by 150%.

Logically speaking, even though I wanted the skills I should have retreated since I lacked the soul storage, but I didn't do that. It might be a huge gamble however, I had faith that evolution might have been able to save me, and I didn't know when I would next be able to acquire that skill.

It was a stupid gamble, but I couldn't just say no to it. My intuition told me it would cause huge damage and pain, but I didn't sense any threat to my life which made me want to take this bet.

I quickly activated shadow stealth, fusing into the shadows and moving into a different spot.

Remembering their emotional resonance, I tried to clear my mind to avoid detection. It was harder than I thought, but my cold trait made it easier to suppress my emotions.

It wasn't perfect but it was enough to barely avoid precise perception. They could still sense me, but they couldn't pin down my exact location like before, making it easier to avoid the wind blades.

I circled around the unicorn and once I noticed an opportunity I fired a wind spear at them, wanting to make sure the magic was the least noticeable.

My plan nearly worked, but they managed to notice it last minute causing the magic to only damage their right leg. It wasn't significant damage but it did slow them down by a significant amount.

Taking advantage of this, I fired more magic spears hitting it in several area of its body. Legs, stomach, back, lungs, heart, and head.

After around thirty minutes I started to awaken and groggily got up from the ground.

'Damn! That hurt a lot more than I thought! At least my gamble paid off.' I thought to myself.

After a few more seconds my thoughts started to clear up, and I finally noticed the system notifications.

Once I finished reading them, I couldn't help but perse my lips.

Not being able to receive soul damage went beyond not being able to train, it meant that I couldn't advance since my tail clone would split off a part of my soul.

"That's annoying," I muttered to myself.

'Well, I should probably check my new skills,' I thought hoping that would cheer me up.
