Chapter 9 - LIGHT IN THE DARK

Nicolas was running without any sense for finding the guy. Who knows about the mystery of town without considering the time. He went out to find.

"Where is that person? I couldn't find him anywhere."

Then Nicolas saw the silhouette of a person standing ahead.

The fading twilight hid the figure completely in shadow.

"Heyy! Hey you! Do you know anything about this town!"

But there was no reply

He can't see him. He moves his hand forward in the height of his eyes to cover the light. But nothing changes.

Nicolas moves forward to him.

"Nicolas!"

Nicolas saw his back. Sierra was shouting in the exhaustion from running.

"Look sierra—I found him!"

"Where? Where is he?"

"Can't you see he's here right in front of—" Nicolas moves his head towards the man with his finger pointing at him.

But the man he saw just vanished in thin air as if he was just a shadow.

"I saw him! He was just here in front of me. I couldn't see his face but his there!" Nicolas said while seeing in all directions.

"Okay, Let's see if he's here."

But there wasn't anyone aside from those two.

"I swear he was here. Please *believe* me."

"Okay Nicolas—I believe you but we need to get out of here first the sun is almost set up. We can't take risk in survival"

Sierra was right. The sun almost set up the night was just around the corner. If they couldn't go back. There is no helping them.

"Yeah, you're right. Let's go back quickly."

" I guess that was the turn we take."

Nicolas couldn't remember the path exactly in the thinking of finding that guy.

He was running in hope for finding someone to get out of the town.

"No, it we didn't take turn this way. We need to move forward then take turn."

But Sierra remember the direction. Well... her memory power was sharp or was it the survival instinct to remember the path the will take you back to safe place.

Nicolas just followed Sierra lead without saying much.

The last light of the sun disappeared.

Night fell over the town.

The monsters didn't show up.

Sierra realized something was wrong here. She notices that the buildings were not same that was earlier when they goes there.

She said in terrified voice.

"It's shifting."

"Shifting. What?"

"The town is shifting!"

Sierra grabs Nicolas hand to run back to where they came from.

"Why are we going back to the direction we came from."

Sierra didn't say anything.

Nicolas realized something.

There was path. We crossed it a moment ago."

"My instinct was right. The town is changing itself. We need to get out of the town right now. Otherwise we are dead meat."

"W... why?"

"We don't have enough time for this. We need to get moving fast."

Sierra speeds up her walks.

"Nicolas—Run as fast as you can"

Nicolas starts running while grabbing Sierra.

They reached a dead end.

Sierra suddenly speak.

"Right! In that house."

That house door was broken.

They enters the house.

"Find a back door."

"But—Sierra."

"Quickly!" Sierra shouted with the face of fear.

"There isn't a back door. But window leading to another street."

"Let's get out as quickly as possible."

Nicolas pulls the window. But it didn't budge.

"It's jammed. Wait."

Nicolas picks a rod that was lying in that house and slam it in the window.

The window crack opens.

Sierra tries get out of the window. Then realized.

"Wait. Why are we in the first floor."

Nicolas takes a look outside.

"What the fuck is going on here!"

"We can't take risk in stopping. Move fast."

Sierra jumped out of the window.

"Wait!"

Nicolas also jumps through the window. He saw something across streets.

"Sierra—that thing."

"Where?"

Nicolas saw a thing in front of him. It was not big as the monsters. But the aura around it kinda feel similar. It was crawling in all four legs.

That monster came running towards them. It was fast.

He suddenly grabs the rod and smashes it in its head with all his might.

"Haah"

The monster fell on the ground. Nicolas thought the monster fell unconscious but it started to move slowly again.

Then Nicolas smashes the rod again but Nicolas didn't stop he smashed the rod until his head explodes completely.

"Let's go."

Nicolas pulls out the rod from his skull.

Sierra was so frightened by that monster corpse that she was about to throw up.

"These sounds?"

Nicolas and Sierra notices heavy and multiple sounds.

It was the sounds of monsters that came from the noise and scent of blood.

"Quick. Quick just get in the house."

They goes through one house to another house hiding from monsters.

"Nicolas—upstairs."

They moved upstairs.

"How could anything like this possible in the world."

It was the ground floor. It the mid plains the floor was changing as if it is a maze they are in.

"Haah, finally."

Nicolas feels relieved.

They saw the streets were ending in that point.

"Don't be happy until we goes out from the area of town."

Sierra didn't feel relieved from seeing the exit. She was tensed from the shifting town more than monsters.

They moves forward towards the town.

Then a movement starting to happens. They alleyways are starting to change.

"Fuck. Fast! Sierra!"

Nicolas run with his full might while grabbing Sierra hand. They were exhausted. The exhaustion was glimpsing from there faces but they didn't have time for being tired.

They entered the alleway. That was started to diminish per second.

"We need to go fast otherwise we will be crushed."

Nicolas running while his mind can't process what's going on anymore.

Nicolas moves more faster while grabbing Sierra.

They came out from that alley.

The alley shut down.

"Finally, we made it out alive. "

Sierra felt as if the life that was gone has come back in her.

"Let's make some distance from town first."

They move some distance from the town to avoid the shifting.

Then at that moment.

Nicolas saw something.

"Sierra— L... Light."

It was a light. A faint ray of light. That was coming from the far end of the town. From a house that is seperated from the town.
