A Time-Turner cannot change the outcome. It can only fill in history.
For example, if someone dies, as long as the holder of the Time-Turner has not seen the corpse with their own eyes, then there is still room for things to turn around.
In other words, if no one has seen the exact process, then the process can be altered flexibly so that the final result becomes a false one.
For example, staging a fake death, or simply spreading a rumor, would be enough to turn the real into the false.
That does not count as changing history. Quantum mechanics actually explains it quite well. As long as the "box" has not been opened, the result is not fixed. In that case, returning to the past allows the result to collapse into the one you want.
Plant Leonard had taken root on the outskirts of Hogsmeade Village, staring blankly at the sky, while Leonard was in the castle studying hard.
Although the two of them avoided exchanging information directly in order to prevent a time loop, Plant Leonard's very appearance already represented certain things.
In this incident, whether it was Sirius Black, Lupin, or Raichel's death, none of that was actually important.
What mattered most was Leonard himself.
After all, under normal circumstances, it should have been impossible for a plant body to move around like a real human body, let alone operate across time and space.
That kind of thing was not just unscientific. It was not even magical. It made no sense.
Future Leonard had not mentioned that point, but Leonard realized it himself, so the Leonard who should have been free of worries instead became even more hardworking and diligent.
As for future Leonard, who had already put in the effort and gone through it all, what he needed to do now was guide this story, whose ending was already fixed, onto the route he wanted.
That was no simple task. After all, there were countless possible ways events could develop. Even a master Diviner skilled in prophecy would not dare claim that every prophecy they made was certain to be accurate. Sometimes the tiniest insignificant detail could throw the future completely off course.
So future Leonard dismantled this body of his and merged with the forests around Hogsmeade Village.
Now he was like someone viewing an RPG from a god's-eye perspective, watching the every move of the "actors."
For example, Raichel, who believed there was absolutely no problem with his invisibility.
Leonard simply watched as Raichel passed right in front of him. He made no sound, and he did not try to stop him.
Because Leonard knew Raichel would attack Sirius and Lupin. If he intervened now, things would move in an unpredictable direction.
So he chose to simply watch and quietly wait for the result.
...
In the library, Leonard was completely absorbed in a dense book on Ancient Runes.
Professor Bathsheda Babbling, the Ancient Runes professor, had recommended this book to Leonard to help deepen his foundations. It had been hidden away in a very obscure corner of the Restricted Section.
If the professor had not personally dug it out for him, he would never even have known the book existed.
Thanks to this book, Leonard's progress in Ancient Runes had been rapid, and he was now already considering turning the Unforgivable Curses into Ancient Runes.
The first thing Leonard envisioned was a trap scroll that would release the Killing Curse the moment it was opened and send someone straight to their death.
Setting aside how effective that might actually be, though, it did not seem to have much use beyond being placed in ruins or tombs as a trap to ambush whoever came later.
The Cruciatus Curse was much the same as the Killing Curse. The only one that really seemed usable was probably the Imperius Curse.
According to Leonard's theory, if the Imperius Curse were used through Ancient Runes, directly controlling someone was probably impossible, but making them carry out a specific action should still be doable.
A way of casting spells that needed neither an incantation nor a wand sounded perfect for some mastermind hiding behind the scenes. One letter could make someone unconsciously follow the sender's instructions.
But that method was still only in the research stage. To make it a reality, Leonard still needed much more study and experimentation.
While Leonard was continuing to study the mysteries of Ancient Runes and immersing himself in an ocean of knowledge, George and Fred, whom he had not seen in quite a while, came looking for him.
Those two had clearly promised to help Leonard improve his flying robes, but a whole year had gone by without any news. And lately they had even been avoiding him, to the point that Leonard was starting to suspect they were planning to take the money and run.
He had not expected them to suddenly show up today.
Leonard put away the Ancient Runes book, something ordinary students should not be reading, and especially not two troublemakers like George and Fred, who always managed to come up with some new stunt. Then he raised a brow at them, signaling for them to spit it out.
"Leonard, are you planning to go to Hogsmeade Village anytime soon?" George and Fred exchanged a glance, then asked with grins on their faces.
The moment Leonard heard that, he understood what they meant. He fixed them with a serious look and asked, "You two are going to Hogsmeade Village?"
Bloody hell. It had not even been that long since he had last seen them, and they were already looking to get themselves killed again. What was the point of running off to Hogsmeade Village at a time like this? Were they trying to die?
Although Leonard did not know exactly what had happened there, he had at least heard about Mundungus's death. From what his future self had implied, although future Leonard had been the one who arranged the whole thing, the one who actually carried it out had been that monster lurking outside the Forbidden Forest, the one that could split into multiple bodies.
That thing was a monster. George and Fred might be stronger than ordinary wizards, but not nearly strong enough to survive being thrown into the same pot with that creature.
"Yeah, there's something important," George said, scratching his head awkwardly.
"What could possibly be that important right now? Don't forget that the area around Hogwarts is already surrounded by Dementors. Without advance notice from a professor, anyone who gets close will be attacked by them," Leonard reminded them.
And that was not even the most important part. The truly important thing was that, according to his future self, Hogsmeade Village would probably become the center of a whirlpool of trouble for a while to come. Going there now was not going to end well.
"If you've got that kind of time, you'd be better off hurrying up and finishing the modifications to my flying robes. It's been almost a year already, hasn't it? Have you two even been taking this seriously?" Leonard complained.
"Well, that's the convenient part. The reason we're going to Hogsmeade Village this time is exactly because of that," Fred said. "A friend of our dad's is in Hogsmeade Village right now. Back when our dad was modifying the flying car, he gave a lot of useful advice, so we're planning to go visit him."
Leonard frowned. "In Hogsmeade Village? Does he live there?"
"No. He's an Auror," Fred said, grinning like an idiot.
