Hagrid's hut.

The second Lucien said Hagrid would be teaching Care of Magical Creatures next term, everyone at the table froze.

Then Harry, Ron, and Hermione lit up at the exact same time.

"Hagrid!" Harry shouted, voice cracking with excitement. He sat up so fast his chair creaked. "You're gonna be a professor? That's amazing!"

He meant every word.

After the Chamber of Secrets mess got cleared up, Hagrid's old wrongful expulsion had finally been overturned. Not only had he gotten his name cleared after decades, he'd been given his wand back and could finally live openly as a wizard again.

And now he was about to become a Hogwarts professor.

Harry couldn't think of anything better.

Ron was already grinning so wide his teeth showed. He slammed his cup down on the table.

"This is brilliant! Hagrid, you're gonna be the most popular professor in the whole school!"

His brain was already racing. Divination? He could probably drop that now. If Hagrid was teaching Care of Magical Creatures, he was definitely signing up. Friend as the teacher meant passing was basically guaranteed. Maybe he wouldn't even have to do homework.

Plus the class itself was supposed to be pretty chill in third and fourth year. Charlie had told him they mostly just fed and brushed 3X-rated creatures—basically zero danger. Just hanging out with magical animals while Hagrid, the nicest guy ever, taught them. Ron was already looking forward to it.

Hermione pumped her fist, eyes sparkling.

"That's wonderful, Hagrid! Why didn't you tell us? We should celebrate properly!"

She knew exactly how good Hagrid was with creatures. The ones that made other people run the other way, Hagrid could name, describe their habits, and care for without breaking a sweat.

She had no doubt he'd be an incredible Care of Magical Creatures professor.

Three excited voices hit Hagrid all at once and left him completely dazed.

He pointed a thick finger at his own chest, looking genuinely confused.

"Me? I'm teaching Care of Magical Creatures next term?"

He turned straight to Lucien, eyes full of honest bewilderment.

Hagrid had no idea this was even happening.

The moment the words left his mouth, Harry, Ron, and Hermione all turned to look at Lucien too. Curiosity and confusion filled their faces.

Lucien felt his stomach drop.

Crap. He'd been so busy lately he'd completely spaced on this. He'd assumed it was already official and just blurted it out.

It was almost the end of term. Had Dumbledore still not sorted out who was taking over Care of Magical Creatures?

Or had he already decided on Hagrid and just… forgotten to tell the man himself?

Wouldn't be the first time.

Dumbledore hadn't shown his face at Hogwarts in almost a month. He was probably neck-deep in hunting down Voldemort's past and the rest of the Horcruxes.

Lucien had nearly finished improving the Wolfsbane Potion and still hadn't even found a chance to tell him.

Now how was he supposed to explain this?

He scratched his cheek and felt all their eyes still locked on him.

So he cleared his throat and tried to sound casual.

"I heard Professor Dumbledore mention he was thinking about it. I'm pretty sure it's already decided."

He lifted his cup and took a sip, using the rim to hide the bottom half of his face.

That'll have to do.

What else was he supposed to say? "Actually I saw the future through divination and already knew you'd get the job"?
