Before we go on, I would like for you to know that I was never always greedy. God, I was never even a selfish child to begin with. But the idea of working so hard, of toiling and dedicating years of my youth and even childhood into becoming something, and then suddenly learning that I could have it all taken away from me in the twinkling of an eye didn't sit right with me.
At all.
And for that reason, I decided to take my fate into my own hands. I decided to make space for myself where it was obvious that the odds were not in my favour.
My hands tightened even more as I listened to them talking at length, a conversation that was mostly centered around how to have the rug pulled from under my feet.
A conversation that would shape my future.
