Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Again Asfil was the first to wake up, this time she sat near Mart and told him:

-I'm sorry, I shouldn't impose my whim on you.

-Don't worry, you didn't, I am the leader and given the situation I considered it the best decision.

Mart, who was not sleepy after having seen those notifications, continued stoking the fire.

-What's the matter? You are usually more cheerful. -Asfil expressed after seeing how Mart poked the fire with a deep and distant look.

-Asfil, who are the most talented students in the S class? -This time Mart was direct.

Asfil looked at him and knew Mart wasn't joking, still it was inevitable that the question seemed strange to him, but after several seconds, he answered:

-The beautiful black-haired student with blue highlights, Nirian Arcaris; Meleic Asfent; Eriant Lizérit; and Sara Veniac. They are the four prodigies considered the future of our Republic.

Hearing that, Mart felt chills run through his body. They were 4 prodigies and they could at the same time be considered 4 harmful threats to the Human Empire, most likely those four students were in danger while he and she were talking. Mart looked at Asfil and said firmly and sincerely:

-I need you to trust me, take Selis, and tell Professor Helen that we feel the power of a being in the fifth rank. Just trust me, at least this once.

Be cautious when you return, I don't want to lose them.

After those words Mart walked away and disappeared into the dark distance.

"System, can you detect the source of the 4 signals?"

[Demon system detecting...]

[Demon god energy: at 30 degrees and 4.3 kilometers, from the host's location, run or fly straight ahead]

[Demon god energy: 97 degrees and 5.2 kilometers, from the host's location, run or fly straight ahead]....

Mart infused demonic energy into his eyes, to be able to see what was happening ahead, he was running, while the cold and humid night air threatened to destroy the thermal barrier of the coat he was wearing since said barrier was not made to be subjected to rapid movements that would cause gusts of cold wind to hit the thermal barrier that the coat had.

But, given the situation, Mart wasn't too worried if the thermal barrier or the coat were no longer useful.

After several minutes, he ran to the edge of a rocky ledge and saw an abominable being whose appearance was difficult to distinguish from a distance without using a sufficient amount of demonic energy, but he knew that overusing his demonic energy could expose him, so he decided to just look and could see a student standing right next to the abominable being.

"I knew it was possible, but I wanted to be wrong. That there are infiltrators even among the Academy students makes this situation even more dangerous, but if I want to change the ending of the story, I must take the risk. But I will only put myself at risk for those demons that are worth saving," thought Mart, who was still watching the course of the fateful events.

All the students who were in danger were standing around a tall, athletic young man, with bright green hair neither short nor long, who possessed a pair of white horns, and with an inconspicuous appearance.

When the abominable being took a step, the green-haired student used demonic spells to fly and accelerate, while escaping he ordered the other students:

-Everyone escape, use whatever resources you have, inform the teachers!

"I can understand him escaping and even abandoning all his classmates, since it is undeniable that he escaped, he was the first to retreat. But what I dislike is his egocentrism in trying to save his reputation by giving instructions at the end, after being the first to escape. Although, perhaps my approach is wrong, after all I am not a student of Class A or Class S."

Mart didn't hesitate, he wanted to go to the next area.

And although it was a cruel decision, he knew that those students would die there alone if no one helped them, but he also knew that without power he could do little, and that was not the right place to spend the resources he bought with almost 500 gold coins.

In the end he walked away without looking back.

In the next area he reached, several minutes later, there was a valley, he observed stealthily, between some bushes from the top of a mountain.

And it didn't take long for Mart to see the beautiful Nirian with a purple jewel with gold edges in her delicate white hands.

The beautiful jewel served to create a demonic barrier that protected Nirian and her five classmates from the attacks of an abominable being.

-You thought you were so beautiful, you sure felt good being the center of attention. But tonight, I'm going to ruin your beauty. Pathetic and arrogant, Nirian... -They were the words, full of hatred, of a demon girl, with slightly wavy brown hair, but of average appearance.

"An envious woman," Mart couldn't help but smile, remembering one of his traits, it was obvious that if he had activated three capital traits, he must also have the other four.

-That barrier won't last long, it would have been better if you had used your power to escape; but no, you wanted to show off until the end. -Said the infiltrated female student, with a voice full of malice and mockery.

Nirian looked at the three mages and two warriors in her group; the composition was good, the problem was that the enemy far exceeded their capabilities.

"Am I going to die here?" Nirian thought resignedly, her hands sweating at the thought of death, a void and chills running through her body, but she wasn't going to give up until the very end.

Bang!

A deafening roar made them all shake. The infiltrated female student had stopped speaking.

Shortly before, Mart had taken out a spiral-shaped sheet of metal and used the three demonic diagrams he had practiced. As all his diagrams were composed of a series of basic demonic formulas and a few intermediate formulas that served as links to ensure the stability of the spells, these would not be easy to trace unless the enemy was a professional, and this female student did not look like an expert. When everything was ready, Mart sighed and thought: "I am a demon, this is the way to survive, I must kill the enemy, help the allies. In the end, it would be best if that monstrous thing lost control, that way, all of us would have a better chance of escaping. Well, as long as that thing is only pure instincts and no reason, but with that horrible appearance, it seems closer to a monstrous beast than a rational being."

Mart took a deep breath, concentrated on the female student and after that he activated the last of the three demonic diagrams.

The abominable creature began to let out chilling guttural screams. It seemed to have freed itself from the control of the student who lay dead on the cold floor with a wound to her temple.

Thud! Thud!

The abominable creature, with gray skin covered in black spots and yellow lumps, pounded with its four arms on the barrier, which was about to break.

"Who are you?!" exclaimed Nirian, who felt that there was still hope.

Mart, who was watching the events unfold, did not dare to answer, not knowing if this unpleasant-looking creature would attack him. After a few seconds, he took out a notebook, wrote a message on a page, tore it out, and made a paper airplane that he flew around the perimeter of the valley so that it would then head from a place distant from him toward Nirian's group. She let the airplane pass and hurriedly ordered:

"Check it out."

One of the young magicians, with brown hair and beige skin, who was pretty and curvaceous despite not being very tall, read the note, and her expression turned somber and her face paled. Then she said in a trembling voice:

"You must escape, Nirian. You can avenge them if you survive." That's what the note says.

The faces of the six turned somber. Although she knew that fleeing was the right choice, her heart would not allow her to continue living in peace if she did so.
