Chapter 15 - CONTROL IT

The pain intensified. It felt as though my head had split apart.

The old woman rushed to get some medication while May paced back and forth anxiously. I refused to let anyone touch me.

I slammed myself against a wall.

May quickly lit a nearby lantern. I stared at my shadow for a while, looking deeply into it, feeling some strange connection. I kept staring harder and harder until it suddenly began moving on its own.

May stood there observing, unsure of what to do.

Soon, every shadow and dark spot around the room started twisting and bending by themselves.

The pain in my head felt unbearable, as if it were about to explode.

Then I blacked out.

Master Li Ming and the old woman sat beside me while May stood nearby, staring at me with worry in her eyes. Wei was perched on the window as usual, wearing her ever-gentle expression.

Using white chalk, the old woman drew strange markings across my body while chanting several incantations. She then brought a lantern closer to inspect me.

However, the light inside the lantern gradually dimmed until it eventually went out on its own.

Shock flashed across her face.

She began chanting more incantations before silently leaving the room.

Master Li Ming also stood up and headed for the door.

"Learn how to control it," he said before leaving.

"May, come with me."

After they all left, I walked toward a burning candle. I slowly placed my hand above the flame, and the fire gradually died down.

Confused, I slammed my palm against a wooden desk and left it there for a moment.

I stared at the spot where my palm had been.

Then I noticed it.

The wood was beginning to burn quietly.

Wei simply stood there, observing in silence.

"Hope you're feeling better now."

May's voice sounded from behind me as she placed some food beside me.

"Sure. Thank you very much," I replied.

"I still don't understand what happened yesterday," I told her.

"It was really scary. While you were groaning in pain, it was like all the shadows on the road were groaning with you too. They kept dancing until you finally passed out," May said.

"May."

A deep voice called from outside.

"I have to go retrieve some goods alongside Zhang Lei. I'll see you when I get back," May said before closing the room door.

After thinking for a moment, Wei and I quietly followed behind her.
