I poured a glass for her, walked back, and handed it over before sitting on the other side of the couch. She drank it in one go and set the empty glass on the coffee table. She looked exhausted. Sheesh, was she out shopping at this hour?
"You're up early," I noted. "For a shopping trip."
"Yeah," Mendy said. "Penelope's shift ended early today. Some crazy ex trashed the place."
"Oh, where does she work?"
"Nine's," she said. "Know the place?"
I shook my head. "Nope."
"It's downtown. There's this giant roundabout with a massive advertisement sign over it. All neon-y and bright."
"Oh, yeah, yeah. I know exactly where that is."
"It's very close to there," Mendy said. "Opened just a few months ago."
"She a barista?"
"Yep."
"We should visit her," I said with a chuckle. "Order the most ridiculous drink on the menu and ask for a refund… twice."
"Oh, she'd either kill us or… find a way to kill us more," she laughed.
