Chapter 386: Happy National Day, Everyone
Mitsuki, whose throat was tightly gripped by Orochimaru, suddenly opened his eyes and kicked Orochimaru hard in the stomach. In the same motion, he reversed their positions and pinned Orochimaru to the ground.
"So, you've made your decision." Pinned down, Orochimaru showed no signs of panic. Instead, she gave a faint smile. "Go ahead, Mitsuki."
Mitsuki gradually leaned down, his mouth close to Orochimaru's neck—and bit down hard.
Reality.
Mitsuki, whose head was being gripped by the Bug Man, suddenly opened his eyes. But now, one of his eyes had turned an eerie shade of red.
He swiftly grabbed the wrist of the Bug Man's hand that held his head. With confusion on the Bug Man's face, four sharp tails suddenly sprouted from Mitsuki's back, all focusing on one point as they pierced through the Bug Man's chest.
Blood gushed uncontrollably from behind like a hot spring, splashing onto the ground.
Staring down at the now-silent Bug Man lying on the ground, Mitsuki's stomach let out a loud growl.
Step by step, Mitsuki slowly walked over and sat down on the Bug Man's body.
At the same time, the future Boruto, who had been flung into the air, clutched the wooden box tightly in his arms.
"Lord Boruto, I've finished gathering my chakra."
Inside future Boruto, Kurama clasped his hands together as golden chakra began to radiate from Boruto's body. Entering Tailed Beast Mode, future Boruto used his weight to drop from the sky, crashing through the Bug Nest.
Countless white bugs spilled from the collapsed nest and scattered in all directions in a panic.
"Where's Mitsuki?"
Future Boruto looked around, searching for Mitsuki.
"Boruto... cough cough, I'm here..."
Mitsuki, covered in dust and dirt, stood atop the ruins of the Bug Nest. Though he had a few scrapes, he was mostly unharmed.
"You okay, Mitsuki?"
"Yeah... I'm fine..."
Just as Mitsuki finished speaking, the ground began to tremble, causing him to lose his footing and fall.
Kurama-Boruto immediately caught Mitsuki and leapt into the air.
"What's going on...?"
Future Boruto looked down at the quaking earth, muttering to himself.
Then, the ground where the Bug Nest had been suddenly caved in, revealing a massive, milky-white insect egg. Through its translucent shell, the life growing within was clearly visible.
Only now did Boruto and Mitsuki fully realize what was going on.
The true purpose of the Bug Nest was to provide energy for this egg beneath it.
Now that the egg had surfaced, it meant the energy required for hatching was already sufficient.
The sun was setting, its last rays shining on the egg.
"The sun's almost down—we can't wait any longer!"
Without hesitation, future Boruto controlled Kurama and landed near the egg. Kurama opened his mouth and fired a Tailed Beast Bomb directly at it.
Boom!
Boruto and Mitsuki both held their breath, eyes fixed on the egg struck by the blast.
Suddenly, the sound of a heartbeat came from within.
"Damn it, something inside the egg is about to come out!"
Future Boruto's expression turned grim. As the last ray of sunlight vanished, the egg began to melt, releasing clouds of hot steam and gradually revealing a humanoid figure inside.
It was a pale-skinned boy who looked about seven years old.
The naked boy casually looked around, completely unconcerned about his lack of clothing.
Kurama opened his mouth again and launched another Tailed Beast Bomb at him.
"Hm?"
The boy made a confused noise, raised his right hand—and caught the incoming Tailed Beast Bomb.
"He caught a Tailed Beast Bomb?!"
Mitsuki was stunned. The boy casually threw it back.
Kurama blocked the returned blast, and future Boruto released his Tailed Beast Mode.
Although Kurama still had chakra, it wasn't limitless. The earlier battle in the Bug Nest had already drained a large portion of it. The chakra used for the transformation was only just gathered.
He had to conserve chakra for the coming fight.
"Who are you?"
The boy looked at Boruto and Mitsuki and asked.
"Boruto," Boruto replied.
"Mitsuki," said Mitsuki.
"And you? What's your name?"
Future Boruto looked at the boy, wariness in his eyes.
"My name...? Insectbane."
The boy frowned, clearly thinking on the spot, before slowly speaking. It was obvious he had just made up the name.
"..."
Boruto and Mitsuki exchanged glances.
"You're really strange..." the boy—Insectbane—suddenly pointed at Mitsuki, his blank white eyes fixed on him. "You smell like a ghost. You're the same kind as them... but why are there so many ghost souls behind you that hate you?"
Mitsuki suddenly turned around, but saw nothing.
"What about you? Are you a ghost too?"
Boruto asked the boy.
"Yeah, of course," Insectbane nodded without hesitation. "So among the four people here, you're the only human, big bro."
Four people?
That's right. Besides Insectbane, Boruto, and Mitsuki, there was also Himawari—sealed inside the wooden box Boruto carried. She, too, was a ghost.
"For my first meal... I choose you."
So fast!
Despite his speed, he couldn't escape Boruto's Rinnegan and Pure Eye.
"Huh? You can block that? Looks like you're not just some average guy, big bro."
Boruto crossed his arms to block Insectbane's kick. Although it came from what looked like a frail seven-year-old, the impact made his arms throb with pain.
Insectbane then used Boruto's crossed arms as a springboard to leap into the air.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!!"
Though Boruto didn't know what Insectbane was planning, he seized the opportunity while Insectbane was airborne with no leverage to dodge, launching a probing counterattack.
The fireball struck Insectbane square in the air.
He fell from the sky.
Despite taking a direct hit from the Fireball Jutsu, aside from a bit of steam rising from his body, Insectbane appeared completely unharmed.
"Boruto."
Mitsuki had finally recovered from his shock.
"You okay, Mitsuki?"
Boruto kept his eyes locked on Insectbane.
"Yeah."
Mitsuki nodded.
"Be careful. This guy's no joke."
Future Boruto warned from the side.
