Chapter 39 - 39

The tension in Evelyn's living room was nearly suffocating.

Shane and Finn had arrived with files, photos, and printed screenshots of everything they had discovered so far. Every photo, every timestamp, every campus event, every interaction between Griffin and Vinny was meticulously documented.

Evelyn sat stiffly on the couch, her hands folded tightly in her lap. Liz hovered nearby, fidgeting with her phone but refusing to leave her mother's side.

Shane cleared her throat. "Mrs. Hale, what we are about to show you will confirm what you already suspected, but it also means some difficult truths about Griffin."

Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "Griffin? My son?"

Shane shook her head slightly. "Not your son. Your grandson." She paused, letting the weight of her words sink in. "We have evidence that Griffin has been obsessively tracking Vincent for years. Not just since he started working at your shop, but going back to university."

Evelyn's grip on her knees tightened. Liz's face turned pale. "Years?" she whispered.

"Years," Finn confirmed, her tone grim. "Photographs, video footage, event records. He has been watching Vinny almost every step of the way. And not discreetly—sometimes in public spaces, parties, gatherings. He just… appeared near him."

Evelyn's jaw tightened. "Why? Why would he do this?"

Shane opened one of the printed folders. "Because he is… obsessed. Protective, yes, but obsessive. Possessive. The kind of obsession that doesn't stop, and doesn't forgive."

Liz's hand shook as she reached for one of the photographs. She studied it closely. "And he never approached him until the shop?"

"No," Shane said. "At least not directly. But he always watched. Learned his routines. Learned his habits. And now he is deeply involved in his life."

Evelyn's face fell. "I thought… I thought he cared for him. He seemed so kind, so attentive. I didn't realize it was…" She trailed off, fear and disbelief mingling.

Finn leaned forward. "It's not just attention. It's control. Griffin wants to know every move Vinny makes. Every person he interacts with. And that level of obsession… it's dangerous."

Evelyn's eyes flicked toward Liz. "Is this why you've been so worried?"

Liz nodded. "I noticed strange patterns, small things that didn't add up. And now, looking at this… it makes sense." She gestured to the folders. "We need to act carefully. If Griffin senses we are onto him, he could react unpredictably."

Shane leaned back. "That's why we brought this to you. We need information. From you. From someone Griffin trusts, someone who can guide Vinny without tipping him off."

Evelyn's hands trembled. "You want me to help stop my own grandson?"

Shane's expression softened slightly, but her voice remained firm. "We need to protect Vinny. He doesn't realize the full extent of Griffin's obsession. We can't underestimate what Griffin is capable of."

Evelyn glanced at Liz. "I don't know how much I can do…"

"You can start by observing," Liz said gently. "Pay attention to interactions. Small cues. Griffin is clever, but even clever people make mistakes."

Shane tapped a folder. "We've already documented patterns. Now we need someone on the inside. Someone close enough that Griffin doesn't suspect they are watching him. That's where you come in, Mrs. Hale."

Evelyn exhaled slowly, her mind racing. Protect Vinny. Expose Griffin. Keep him safe. Her role suddenly became clear. The fear remained, but so did resolve.

"Alright," she said finally. "I'll help. But we do this carefully. I will not put Vinny in more danger."

Shane nodded. "Good. We need subtlety. Patience. Coordination. Everyone has to move carefully. West may also try to interfere, so we need to anticipate him too."

Finn added, "And remember, Vinny has no idea the full picture. If Griffin suspects he's being observed, it could escalate quickly."

Liz glanced at her mother, her expression firm. "We do this for him. For Vinny."

Evelyn nodded, her fear replaced by determination. "For Vinny."

Shane closed the folder, letting the weight of the evidence settle over them. "Then let's plan our next moves carefully. Griffin's obsession is intense, but it can be monitored. Controlled. And eventually… exposed."

The room fell silent, the gravity of their task pressing down on them.

Outside, across the city, West leaned back in his chair. Watching. Always watching. And now, with Shane, Liz, and Evelyn actively moving pieces, the game was finally starting.

But for Griffin, the danger was just beginning.

The obsessive love he had nurtured for years was about to collide with forces he hadn't anticipated. And when it did…

No one would come out unchanged.
