Chapter 11 - The Prince of The Forsaken Legion

Silence engulfed the crystal walls of Elysium.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

The very air seemed to freeze after Orion Arwyn revealed his identity.

"You are lying," Arven finally said, stepping in front of Kael with his sword drawn. "The royal bloodline ended eighteen years ago."

Orion merely smiled.

"If that were true, then why is the Echo Crystal responding to my presence?"

The kingdom trembled once again.

Far beneath the palace, the ancient crystal released another wave of golden light that spread throughout Elysium. Every guardian present immediately sensed it.

Something had changed.

Seraphina's expression darkened as she stared at Orion's face.

"It can't be," she whispered. "I saw the royal records myself. There was only one surviving child."

"Records can be altered," Orion replied calmly. "Memories can be manipulated. History is written by those who survive."

Kael remained silent.

His mind was in complete chaos.

Brother?

The word continued echoing in his thoughts.

His entire life had been a lie. He had only just begun accepting the truth of his existence, and now another revelation threatened to shatter everything he had learned.

"You said you've been searching for me," Kael finally spoke. "Why?"

Orion looked directly into his eyes.

"Because you are the only family I have left."

The answer surprised everyone.

There was no hatred in Orion's voice.

No murderous intent.

Only sadness.

"If we're brothers," Kael continued, "then why bring an army to Elysium?"

Orion laughed softly.

"Because if I came alone, the guardians would never allow me to enter."

"That's hardly reassuring," Seraphina replied coldly.

The mysterious prince raised his hand.

The Forsaken Legion immediately knelt before him without question.

"I did not come here to wage war."

"Then explain the broken barrier!" Arven shouted.

Orion's expression suddenly became serious.

"Because something else is coming."

The sky darkened further as thunder echoed throughout the kingdom.

"What do you mean?" Kael asked.

The smile disappeared from Orion's face.

"The Seven Sovereigns have awakened."

Those words caused Seraphina's face to lose all colour.

"No..."

Kael looked between them in confusion.

"Who are the Seven Sovereigns?"

No one answered immediately.

Finally, Seraphina spoke.

"Before the founding of Elysium, seven beings ruled the world."

"Rulers?" Kael questioned.

"They are far more than rulers," Orion interrupted. "They are ancient entities who existed before kingdoms were created."

"The Seven Sovereigns are immortal," Seraphina explained. "Each governs a fundamental force of existence."

"Light."

"Darkness."

"Time."

"Flames."

"The Ocean."

"The Heavens."

"And Death."

Kael's expression changed immediately.

"What do they have to do with me?"

Orion pointed toward the palace.

"Everything."

The ancient bells began ringing louder than ever before.

"The Echo Crystal was never created by mortals," Orion revealed.

"It was given to the first king of Elysium by one of the Seven Sovereigns."

The revelation shocked everyone present.

"Impossible," Arven muttered.

"For a thousand years, the royal family protected that secret," Orion continued. "The Seven Sovereigns are now searching for the fragments of the Echo Crystal."

Kael suddenly remembered Lucien's words.

The crystal had been divided into seven pieces.

Seven Sovereigns.

Seven fragments.

The pieces finally began fitting together.

"The crystal fragments..." Kael whispered.

Orion nodded.

"Each fragment possesses enough power to alter the fate of entire kingdoms."

"And if someone gathers all seven?" Kael asked.

For the first time, Orion hesitated.

"They will gain the authority to reshape the world itself."

Silence followed his answer.

The implications were terrifying.

"Why tell me all of this?" Kael asked.

"Because your name is written within the prophecy."

Kael frowned.

"Another prophecy?"

"The final prophecy."

Orion slowly approached the kingdom's gates.

"Thousands of years ago, the first Echo Guardian saw the future."

Golden light suddenly began surrounding Kael's mark once more.

"She spoke of two princes born of the same bloodline."

Everyone immediately turned toward the two young men standing opposite one another.

"One would inherit the power of the echoes."

"The other would inherit the power of the fallen stars."

Kael's eyes widened.

"There were two heirs?"

"Yes."

Seraphina stared at Orion in complete disbelief.

"But where were you all these years?"

The mysterious prince looked toward the moon before answering.

"In hell."

The atmosphere immediately became heavy.

"When Elysium fell, I was taken by those who feared the prophecy. They raised me in darkness and trained me to destroy the royal bloodline."

Kael's expression softened slightly.

"They wanted me to kill you."

"Then why didn't you?" Kael asked.

"Because despite everything they taught me, I could never bring myself to hate my own brother."

The answer caught everyone off guard.

Orion looked toward Kael once more.

"Do you know what I felt when I finally discovered you were alive?"

Kael remained silent.

"Relief."

The prince laughed bitterly.

"After eighteen years, I finally knew I wasn't alone."

For a brief moment, Kael saw something unexpected within Orion's eyes.

Loneliness.

The same loneliness he himself had carried throughout his childhood.

Suddenly, the ground beneath the kingdom began shaking violently.

Cracks appeared across the crystal walls.

The echoes began screaming within Kael's mind.

"DANGER!"

"THE FIRST SOVEREIGN HAS AWAKENED!"

"RUN!"

Golden light erupted from the palace as ancient alarms echoed throughout the city.

The sky itself began splitting apart.

A massive golden eye appeared among the dark clouds and gazed directly upon Elysium.

Every guardian immediately fell to their knees.

The overwhelming pressure made it difficult even to breathe.

"What is that?" Kael asked.

Seraphina's voice trembled slightly.

"One of the Seven Sovereigns."

The enormous eye blinked once before an ancient voice echoed throughout the heavens.

"So... the heir of the echoes has finally awakened."

Kael's body froze.

The Sovereign was speaking directly to him.

"You carry something that belongs to us."

"What are you talking about?" Kael shouted.

The ancient voice ignored his question.

"For a thousand years, we have searched for you."

"We?" Orion whispered.

The sky suddenly changed once more.

A second pair of eyes appeared.

Then a third.

By the time the phenomenon ended, seven enormous eyes overlooked the forgotten kingdom of Elysium.

The Seven Sovereigns had awakened.

Every living creature within the kingdom trembled before their overwhelming presence.

"The game has finally begun," one of them declared.

"Protect the heir."

"No. Kill him."

"Claim the fragments."

"The prophecy must be fulfilled."

Their voices overlapped like thunder.

Kael could not understand what was happening.

Why were these ancient beings interested in him?

Why did some wish to protect him while others desired his death?

And most importantly...

What role did he play in their plans?

Suddenly, the mark upon Kael's hand began glowing brighter than ever before.

A strange voice echoed within his mind.

Unlike the others, it sounded gentle and familiar.

"My child."

Kael froze.

That voice.

It was his mother's.

"The answers you seek are hidden within the First Fragment."

His eyes widened immediately.

"Mother?"

"The time has finally come."

The voice slowly faded away.

"Find the Temple of Eternal Echoes before the Sovereigns do."

The connection disappeared completely.

Before Kael could process her words, one final sentence reached his ears.

"And whatever happens..."

"Do not trust the one standing beside you."

Kael's eyes widened.

Beside him?

Slowly, he turned his head.

Seraphina.

Arven.

Orion.

Every one of them stood nearby.

Which one was she warning him about?

Before he could ask another question, the sky split apart completely as a gigantic hand made of golden light began descending toward Elysium.

The Seven Sovereigns had made their first move.

And Kael realized something that terrified him more than anything else

The battle for Elysium had only just begun
