Part II
As the night deepened, the mountains disappeared beneath a veil of darkness while the heavens grew brighter overhead.
The fairy lights continued to glow softly around the clearing, wrapping the altar in warm golden light. Hidden among the trees, a quiet melody drifted through the cool night air, gentle enough that it felt less like music and more like another heartbeat beneath the stars.
Our wedding had never been meant to impress the world.
It had been created for only two people.
And that made it perfect.
Wellesley rested her head against my shoulder as we stepped away from the altar.
Her gown shimmered each time moonlight touched it, flowing like silver water with every movement. I slipped one hand around her waist while the other found hers, and together we began our first dance.
No grand ballroom.
No orchestra.
No nobles.
Just the endless sky above us and the mountains standing guard around our little sanctuary.
For a while, neither of us spoke.
We simply moved together, allowing the quiet melody to guide us.
Eventually, Wellesley smiled against my shoulder.
"Is this really happening?"
Her voice was so soft it almost disappeared into the wind.
"Or am I dreaming?"
"It's real," I whispered.
"And if this is a dream... then I hope neither of us ever wakes."
She laughed quietly.
The sound echoed through the mountains, light and genuine, filling the silence with life.
"I always imagined our first dance would be something extravagant."
She glanced around the empty clearing before smiling.
"A palace ballroom."
"Hundreds of guests."
"A royal orchestra."
I shook my head.
"I wouldn't trade this for all of that."
She looked up at me.
"No?"
"No."
I smiled.
"Palaces belong to kingdoms."
I gently pulled her a little closer.
"But this moment belongs only to us."
The dance slowed until it became little more than gentle swaying.
The candles flickered around us.
The breeze played with the edge of her veil.
Above, countless stars shimmered like silent blessings scattered across the heavens.
I lifted her chin with my fingertips.
"I could spend forever like this."
Her eyes softened.
"So could I."
She rested her forehead lightly against mine.
"This..."
She smiled.
"This is enough."
Neither of us hurried to speak again.
The music carried us through the silence while our hearts seemed to find the same rhythm.
She leaned against my chest, listening quietly.
After a long while, she whispered,
"Do you think the stars are celebrating with us tonight?"
I kissed the top of her head.
"I think..."
I looked toward the endless sky.
"They're shining a little brighter because they finally have something worth celebrating."
She smiled without lifting her head.
The song gradually came to its end, its final notes disappearing into the wind.
Our feet stopped moving, but neither of us stepped apart.
Together, we turned toward the edge of the mountain.
Far below, the world slept peacefully beneath the sea of clouds.
Ahead of us stretched an endless horizon painted with moonlight.
Hand in hand, we stood in comfortable silence.
No words were needed.
Because in that quiet moment, we both understood the same truth.
Tonight had not been the end of a journey.
It was the first page of the forever we had vowed to write together.
