Annalyn POV
We found the right spot without discussing it first.
Not outside, not in any of the formal rooms. The study on the second floor, the one with the two chairs and the settee near the window where the afternoon light came through at a particular angle. I had been in that room enough times to know it was where conversations that mattered tended to happen.
Lucas took the chair near the door, and Matteo sat on the settee.
I remained standing for a moment, because once I sat down and started talking, there was no version of this conversation where things stayed the way they currently were.
Then I sat. "I'm pregnant," I told them.
The silence that followed was the longest I had ever sat in. Neither of them moved for a full minute. Lucas's expression did not shift. Matteo looked at his hands, then at me, then at some point between us that did not correspond to anything physical in the room.
It was Lucas who finally spoke.
