"That stopped being my problem after someone tried to kill me."
Silence followed immediately afterward...Heavy silence.
The kind that made the entire room feel smaller somehow.
Lucian kept pacing across Alaric's office, one hand dragging through his hair roughly before falling back to his side again. He was trying to calm down. Trying very hard, actually. But frustration had been building for days now.
Maybe weeks.
And at this point it felt like every conversation inside this palace ended with another vague answer and another locked door.
Alaric had already stood from behind his desk.
The atmosphere no longer felt like a normal discussion.
Neither of them spoke for several long seconds.
Then Lucian laughed quietly under his breath.
Not amused. Just tired.
"I was the only person who saw the crest on that figure," he said finally.
Alaric's gaze sharpened slightly.
Lucian kept moving.
"It looked like a noble crest and somehow nobody here seems interested in tracing that."
