Cherreads

Chapter 1 - prologue

" Why am i alive?"

Liam's voice was low as he slowly pushed himself up from the bed.

His eyes darted around the room.

A large, clean bedroom.

Soft sunlight leaking through the curtains.

The distant sound of cars outside.

Normal.

Too normal.

His breath slowed.

This doesn't make sense.

The last thing he remembered was chaos.

Screaming.

Blood.

Monsters tearing through everything.

Yet here he was—alive.

Safe.

He clenched his fists.

"No… this can't be real."

Suddenly—

Footsteps.

Heavy.

Approaching the door.

Liam's body reacted before his mind did.

He stepped back slightly.

Footsteps…?

His eyes narrowed.

"Shit…"

A cold thought entered his mind.

Did I go back in time?

Then he shook his head.

"No… impossible."

His gaze sharpened.

An illusion.

It has to be.

Maybe a high-level illusion beast…

The door creaked open.

A small girl stood there.

Braided hair.

Bright eyes.

A soft smile on her face.

"Brother?"

For a moment, she froze.

Because the moment she stepped inside—

She felt it.

A suffocating pressure.

Cold.

Heavy.

Killing intent.

Liam's eyes had changed.

The girl's smile vanished.

Confusion flickered across her face.

Her small mind struggled to understand.

Then she reached a conclusion.

He… hates me.

Her lips trembled.

And suddenly—

"Waaaah!"

She burst into tears.

Before Liam could say anything, she turned and ran downstairs crying.

Silence returned.

Liam did not move.

He simply stared at the door she left through.

Then he exhaled.

"Sigh…"

His expression darkened.

That reaction… was real.

Images flashed in his mind.

His family.

Screams.

The city collapsing.

And then—

Only him.

And his sister.

Gone.

Consumed.

"…So it's real."

He turned away slowly.

Walking toward the bathroom.

His voice was barely a whisper.

"If I really went back…"

"…why me?"

Then—

A screen appeared in front of his eyes.

Liam stopped walking.

His eyes widened slightly.

He blinked.

Once.

Twice.

The screen remained.

Floating.

"…What is this?"

For the first time—

uncertainty entered his expression.
