Chapter 42 - Cold War

BEN 10: ULTIMATE ALIEN

"Cold War"

A Fan-Made Episode Script (Original Story)

COLD OPEN

Place- BELLWOOD HARBOR — NIGHT

Fog rolls off black water. The harbor is dead silent — no gulls, no waves, just an unnatural stillness. A single buoy light blinks, slow and red, somewhere out in the mist.

MAX TENNYSON stands at the edge of the dock, a Plumber scanner in hand, watching the fog with the kind of stillness that means he doesn't like what he's seeing.

MAX

(into a comm)

Tennyson to base. I need eyes on the harbor. Something's jamming every sensor we've got out here.

Static. Then — a deep, resonant THRUM rolls across the water, low enough to feel in the chest rather than hear. The fog ripples outward, like something massive just displaced it.

Max slowly lowers the comm.

MAX (CONT'D)

(quiet)

...That's not possible.

A pair of eyes — huge, glowing, cold violet — open within the fog, far out on the water, easily thirty feet apart.

INT. TENNYSON GARAGE — NIGHT

BEN TENNYSON tinkers half-heartedly with a broken hoverboard while GWEN TENNYSON reads on her tablet and KEVIN LEVIN naps in the front seat of his car, parked half inside the garage.

Ben's phone buzzes. He glances at it — MAX — and answers.

BEN

Hey, Grandpa, what's up?

MAX (V.O.)

(tense, filtered)

Ben. I need you and the others at the harbor. Now.

BEN

(sitting up straight)

What's going on?

MAX (V.O.)

(a beat, grim)

I think Vilgax is back.

The hoverboard clatters out of Ben's hands. Gwen's head snaps up from her tablet. Even Kevin's eyes pop open from across the garage.

KEVIN

(sitting up fast)

I'm sorry, did Grandpa Max just say the V-word?

GWEN

(already standing, voice tight)

That's not possible. Ben beat him. We all saw it.

BEN

(grabbing his jacket, jaw set)

Yeah. Well. Let's go make sure "beat him" still means something.

ACT ONE

EXT. BELLWOOD HARBOR — NIGHT

Kevin's car screeches to a stop near the dock. The fog is thicker now, swallowing the streetlights whole. Max meets them, scanner crackling uselessly in his hand.

MAX

Every sensor I own is useless out here. Whatever's in that water is putting out an interference field unlike anything Plumber tech has ever logged.

GWEN

(weaving a small mana-light, peering into the fog)

I'm not getting a clean read either. It's like the fog itself is alive.

Another THRUM rolls across the water — closer now. The dock groans under some unseen pressure, planks creaking.

KEVIN

(absorbing the metal railing, voice low)

Okay. So if it's not Vilgax, it's something that wants us to think it is. Either way—

MAX

(firm)

Either way, we don't take chances. Ben.

Ben nods, already reaching for the Ultimatrix.

BEN

(activating the dial)

On it.

[TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

Green light wraps around Ben. His body thins, elongates, turns a deep blue-black, wreathed in faint trails of cold mist that bleed off his skin. Wings unfurl from his back, translucent and frost-edged. His eyes glow a pale icy blue.

BEN (AS BIG CHILL)

(voice layered, echoing slightly)

Big Chill!

He rises off the dock, hovering, frost curling from his hands.

BIG CHILL

If something's hiding in that fog, let's see how it likes the cold.

He drifts forward over the black water, sinking partway into intangibility as he goes, the others watching anxiously from the dock.

ACT TWO

EXT. HARBOR WATERS — CONTINUOUS

Big Chill skims low over the waves, fog curling around him. The THRUM grows louder. Ahead, the massive violet eyes open again — closer, impossibly large, easily matching a small building in scale.

A colossal SHAPE begins to rise from beneath the water — tentacled, armored, horned — unmistakably Vilgax's silhouette, but wrong somehow: the proportions exaggerated, the texture too smooth, almost glassy, like a reflection stretched too far.

BIG CHILL

(hovering, wary)

...Vilgax never had tentacles that long. Or glowed like that.

The shape doesn't attack. It simply watches, the huge violet eyes tracking Big Chill's every movement with an unsettling stillness.

VILGAX-SHAPE

(voice booming, oddly layered — like an echo of an echo)

Tennyson.

BIG CHILL

(steeling himself)

That's me. And you're not him. Vilgax doesn't do the silent-and-creepy routine. He likes monologuing.

The shape tilts its massive head, almost curious.

VILGAX-SHAPE

You assume I am pretending to be him.

BIG CHILL

(narrowing eyes)

You're telling me you're not?

VILGAX-SHAPE

I am... what your fear remembers him as.

The fog around the shape SURGES, and the creature's form ripples — distorting taller, sharper, more nightmarish, feeding visibly off the tension in the air.

BIG CHILL

(realization dawning, backing up midair)

Okay. That's new. And bad.

EXT. HARBOR DOCK — CONTINUOUS

Back on the dock, Gwen's mana-light flickers wildly. Max grips the railing as the water churns harder.

GWEN

(urgent)

Whatever that thing is, it's not a physical invader — I'm reading psychic resonance, like it's pulling shape and power directly from what we're afraid of.

MAX

(grim)

A fear-feeder. We've heard rumors of species like that. Never confirmed.

KEVIN

(tense)

So the more we panic about Vilgax being back...

GWEN

(finishing)

...the more "Vilgax" it becomes.

Out on the water, the Vilgax-shape grows again, looming larger, its glassy hide cracking with internal violet light.

KEVIN

(yelling out toward the fog)

Ben! It feeds on fear! Stop being scared of it!

BIG CHILL (V.O., DISTANT)

(strained, half-shouting back)

Kind of in the middle of something here, Kevin!

ACT THREE

Big Chill dives and weaves around a tentacle-swipe, more agile than the creature's bulk, buying time to think. He goes briefly intangible as another strike passes harmlessly through him.

BIG CHILL

(thinking aloud, fast)

Okay. It's not really Vilgax. It's not really anything — it's a mirror. The bigger and scarier I treat it, the bigger and scarier it gets.

He glances down at the Ultimatrix symbol on his chest, flickering.

BIG CHILL (CONT'D)

(steadying himself)

So maybe I stop fighting it like I'm scared... and start fighting it like I've got this completely under control.

The Ultimatrix symbol snaps open.

[ULTIMATE TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE]

Mechanical petals unfold and lock around Big Chill's body. His frost-edged wings widen and sharpen into crystalline, armored plates. His chest brightens with a pale blue core of light. The mist around him thickens into a controlled, swirling vortex rather than a passive cloud.

BEN (AS ULTIMATE BIG CHILL)

(calm, resonant, no longer strained)

Ultimate Big Chill.

The Vilgax-shape recoils slightly — for the first time, uncertain.

VILGAX-SHAPE

(voice glitching, losing some of its booming confidence)

You are not afraid.

ULTIMATE BIG CHILL

(steady)

Nope. Turns out the actual Vilgax already taught me everything scary about him. You're just... reruns.

Ultimate Big Chill raises both arms. Instead of wild frost, a precise, expanding dome of absolute-zero cold radiates outward from him in total control, crystallizing the fog itself into harmless, inert ice crystals that drift down like snow.

The Vilgax-shape's glassy form cracks under the encroaching frost, its violet glow dimming as it shrinks, the illusion losing cohesion the less fear it has to feed on.

VILGAX-SHAPE

(smaller, weaker, almost plaintive now)

This is not... how fear is supposed to behave...

ULTIMATE BIG CHILL

(gently, almost sympathetic)

Yeah. Sorry. Wrong city, wrong family. We've had way too much practice not panicking.

With a final pulse of controlled frost, the creature's form shatters into harmless glittering ice dust, scattering across the water and dissolving into the retreating fog. The THRUM fades. The harbor goes still — properly still, not unnaturally still.

Ultimate Big Chill hovers a moment longer over the calm water, then turns back toward the dock.

TAG SCENE

EXT. BELLWOOD HARBOR — LATER

The fog has fully lifted. Stars are visible again. Ben, back to human, sits on the dock's edge next to Gwen and Kevin while Max packs up his scanner nearby.

MAX

(closing his scanner case)

Fear-feeders are rare, and they're smart. It picked the one shape guaranteed to make all of us hesitate before we even started fighting.

GWEN

(quietly)

It almost worked. For a second there, I genuinely believed it was him.

BEN

(looking out at the water)

Yeah. Me too. For a second.

KEVIN

(stretching, trying to sound casual)

Just for the record — when I yelled "stop being scared," that was a legitimately great strategic call.

BEN

(smirking)

You yelled it from the dock. I was the one who had to go be brave at it.

KEVIN

Emotional support yelling is still support.

Gwen rolls her eyes, smiling despite herself. Ben glances down at the Ultimatrix — calm, green, quiet.

BEN

(quiet, mostly to himself)

Next time something wears his face... I'm not even gonna blink.

He stands, offering a hand to help Gwen up. The three start walking back up the dock together as Max watches the water a moment longer, then follows.

FADE OUT.
