They would only be able to serve their punishment when they were in the camp, but the oath-plate service prevented them from volunteering for missions to get out of it. If they wanted to avoid punishment, then the commander would have to personally assign them to a mission and right now he wasn't willing to offend the head chef either.
Nodding, the head chef went back into the kitchen while the kitchen staff passed out the cleaning tools and started giving orders to them.
Standing up Chronos sighed as he took his cleaning tools and got to work. He still hadn't eaten yet today so he could only hope that the dinner service would end soon and he could eat.
The Black Fangs were definitely going to laugh at him when they saw him too. Oh well.
Looking on the bright side of things, an entire month restricted to camp would give him plenty of time to master walking again. For someone who had been able to control almost everything his body did, the constant weaving from his bad balance was starting to get on his nerves.
A few hours later they finished cleaning up the dining hall and went about their own business.
For Chronos that was getting a meal, his first meal of the day.
Writing esoteric books about complex knowledge was almost as engaging as reading them. With each attempt he had gained new knowledge and actively felt his skills increasing.
He found that he greatly enjoyed this sort of work, even if it could be frustrating. Now he just needed to remember not to get so lost in his work that he failed to eat like he had today.
While he was eating Aunt Freydis entered the dining hall, seeing him she made her way over to his table.
"Chronos, have you finished writing that book?"
"Un." He grunted through a mouthful of soup.
Aunt Freydis took the papers he handed over to her, flipped through them, then grimaced at all of the complex theories and explanations on the structure and utilization of space.
"Why are there so many difficult words?" She grumbled.
"Space isn't a simple concept like fire or earth. This makes its starting point much more difficult to understand. I did try to start with the simplest concept of direction, if you can control direction then you can suddenly change direction mid-movement to put yourself in a better position."
"You talk about establishing a local directional point in here, but what exactly does that mean?"
"Within space there is no concept of direction. Rather, direction is something created by intelligent minds, so if you want to control direction within a given space you need to create a point that direction comes from. Take north as an example, why is it north? Well, it's north because someone said it was and everyone agreed with them.
This is an example of establishing a directional point, not a good one but the best natural point I can think of. By creating our own directional point we can then change direction around that point by bending space.
This doesn't mean we are creating new rules within the space but rather the space we move around is smaller. North could be just a couple meters from us which would cause our forward movement to bend around this central point." He explained.
"So, it's like tying yourself to a pole and using that to swing around in a circular movement?"
"That's the simplest application of it but there are many more complex uses for our power. I'm honestly not surprised that our ancestors forgot or couldn't figure out how to use this power."
As she thought about this, she suddenly realized that none of that explained how [Sever] or [Isolate] worked.
"Hang on, that doesn't explain our bloodline skills. When do you explain how those work?" She flipped through several more pages but didn't find anything about either of them. Only more information about directions and sensing the space around you.
"In the next section, I believe they work using the concept of layers. See space is made up of multiple layers, some we can see others we can't; by touching these layers we can cause various effects, some of which are quite horrifying.
Our [Isolate] skill creates a visible layer out of our own power that acts like a castle wall separating us from the outside world. The [Isolate Shield] I showed you before is so difficult to create because the spell wants to form a complete layer, not an incomplete one that we can move around.
Meanwhile [Sever] seems to partially create an [Isolate] then fragment it, using these fragmented layers it creates a cutting power that is nearly unrivaled.
It's like casting a spell then stopping halfway through. I should also say that I'm not certain I'm right about this, I still need to do more research into our skills."
"By the Gray Wolf! Why did a clan of muscle heads like ours end up with a power that needs so much technical knowledge? Haah, we'll have to leave research to the elders, none of the younger wolves will be able to sit still long enough to research this stuff." She scratched her head as she began to glare at the papers just as hard as Chronos had.
"Don't go damaging them! I refuse to write all of that again!" Seeing his death glare Aunt Freydis nodded and carefully stored the papers away.
No matter how beneficial it had been for him to write {Spatial Relativity for Kids. The place to begin your journey!} he didn't want to be forced to write it all over again.
Actually, that might be a good punishment for disobedient werewolves, and it would help them grow stronger while teaching them a lesson.
"I'll have a runner take it back to the clan along with the Divine Beast method, I hope you had time to write that book too?" She said with concern.
He handed over a second set of papers that seemed to gather energy.
"I finished the Divine Beast method first, it started gathering power as soon as I was done so make sure that no weird creatures see it. Give me an hour before you send it back, I want to write a letter home." Seeing his evil grin, she knew that whatever he had to say was going to make a lot of people angry with him, but she didn't stop him.
Nodding Aunt Freydis decided to put the Divine Beast method in a magically sealed leather case for safety.
"Do you have any suggestions for training our new skills?"
"Our?"
Aunt Freydis held up a claw and [Sever] rapidly appeared on it.
"Oh, congratulations on your breakthrough Aunt Freydis. As for advice, read the section on directional space then cover your eyes with a blindfold to better sense what is happening when you use the bloodline skills." Chronos said with sparkling eyes.
Aunt Freydis gave him a look like he had just told her to eat dirt then sit still all day, but at least she could understand why he was so excited for her.
Now he could challenge her to a fair fight without any worries.
"Don't bother challenging me yet. It still takes me at least one second to cast it, once I can cast it in less than half a second we'll fight. Any slower and I won't be able to keep up with you."
From the grin spreading across her face Chronos could tell she was just as eager as he was.
As they left the dining hall Chronos could hear werewolves beginning late night training. Even if they mostly fought during the day they were still strongest at night, especially this week. There was a full moon at the end of the week.
This week was one of the best times for them to master new skills or develop their bloodlines as the moon would give them greater strength as it waxed full. It would also make them more excitable as it filled them with energy constantly.
Unfortunately, that meant that next week all of them would be in a slump as the moon waned. This was just one of the difficulties of being born a werewolf but with training from a young age they were able to deal with these problems without any danger.
Returning to his tent Chronos began his own training in preparation for sparring with his aunt. They wouldn't spar for a few days, but the excitement was keeping him up tonight.
While going through his usual training he removed his blindfold, now that he could sense all movements within 9 meters of himself at all times wearing it wouldn't bring him any further benefits.
Instead, he began focusing on how his skills interacted with the world with a particular focus on the possibility of affecting other layers. Even if he failed in the end just researching layers would give him more knowledge.
