Thane
I woke up to the sun's rays caressing my face. I smiled, truly smiled after so long and although I
was too tired and lazy to wake up I extended my arm to the space beside me hoping to feel
Mahira beside me.
The space beside me was cold and empty, panic washed over me as I turned over to check if
she really wasn't there. She isn't here. She's gone. No. No. No. No.
No, God please no.
I jumped off the bed and ran downstairs hoping to find her in the kitchen or something but she
wasn't there. She wasn't anywhere. I ran my fingers through hair and bit my knuckles, the
familiar feeling of anxiety and loneliness gripping me so tight in its clutches.
I can't lose her too. I can't lose her again.
Wasn't it enough? My kids, my whole family and now the only hope I had left is taken away from
me again, God please no.
'Aww Thane. Your dearest wife just left you here all alone.'
Ariana walked through the door, hair now cut short looking as beautiful as ever. She wore a
purple mid thigh length sweetheart neck dress with a white fur coat and purple boots. Even after
spending so many years in prison she still looked beautiful.
'You don't have to look at me like in your next meal, you have a wife don't be shameless. But I
guess you might not really have a wife anymore since she left you.'
'She will come back but what are you doing here?'
Ariana looked around the house and raised her hand mid air in praise, 'damn, our home is
beautiful and empty, let me take a seat, where are your servants.'
She walked towards the chairs on the dining table and took one then dragged it to where I was
standing and sat opposite me.
'Don't you want to know who helped me murder your family. Aren't you curious?'
'You did it by yourself Ariana, and don't dare think for a second that I will let you go. I will end
you myself.' 'No, no, no, Thane. It doesn't work that way. When you commit a crime, you get punished along
with your ally. Do you wanna know who helped me out?'
'Whoever helped you will be punished as well.'
Come to think of it, she couldn't have done it alone. Her sentence should have been longer than
that.
'Your dear sweet grandmother is very, very strong. I don't know how she survived a bomb blast,
I mean she was already old so how the hell did she survive a bomb blast Thane?'
'What did you do to her?'
'I didn't do anything. In fact I was going to let her live but your wife suggested otherwise. She
finished her off. As soon as Mahira found out that Alf had survived she butchered the old woman
and fed her to a couple of stray dogs.'
Did she seriously think I would believe such a thing? She kidnapped her and she wants to put
the blame on her. I wouldn't believe a word that came from her mouth because it would all just
be lies.
'I know you probably don't believe me because I'm the villain right? But ask yourself one thing,
where was Mahira when you lost everything. If that question isn't enough, think about her
kidnapping which coincidentally had to do with me, I mean if I wanted her dead I'd have killed
her but why would I bring her back, think about how she acted when she came back, did she
care that her family or yours was dead, did she care for the kids and then suddenly she
disappeared. Why did she disappear when everything went bad?'
Could Mahira be the actual villain? Do I have reasons to doubt her? Ariana is just a liar. She's
just lying, she's trying to break us apart.
'You're just trying to instigate me against her.'
Ariana stood up from her seat and came closer to me.
'I'm supposed to be in prison for 20 years, Thane, isn't it odd that I was released early and
Mahira is wealthy enough to bribe someone plus she has a body to die for, she could use that
as well.'
'That doesn't prove anything.'
'But you're still listening, which means you're considering what I'm saying.'
She's right about that.
'Take into account that you rejected mahira more than 25 times, even if you want to believe a
woman can love that hard, it's not possible. Consider this, she came to our wedding, humiliated
you but here's her trump card. Elena. Then she befriends Elena and has her wrapped around
her finger, then she tries to poison Alf after that humiliation and frames me for it. Two years later
she's in America and then suddenly she's pregnant, with your kids, impossible. You now, before
fucking around with you, she was dating Ares. do you kow what that means, they fucked and
the kids, they arent yours and news flash, Ares was married. Mahira has a motive to kill your
family, she has motive more than me to destroy your life.'
She, she's right. Mahira does have a motive to ruin me, I've put her through so much
humiliation, I've ruined her, I've done so many things to her and she can't just forgive me just
like that. It makes sense, her love for Elena is absurd and too, faulty. I have other siblings as
well. She could have bought them gifts too, she could have befriended them but she targeted
Elena. It's all so convenient, even after vowing to keep me away from her children, she still let me back
in, she married me and it was all too good to be true. She probably used Ariana to get back at
me, to kill my family. It's all clear now, it's so clear why she wasn't affected by the death of our
families after being kidnapped and all she cared about was seducing me which she didn't have
to do if she knew I love her.
Then she takes the kids with her and disappears and my sister definitely trusted her enough to
go with her. Now she's back, after taking everything away from me, she's back.
'She didn't do it. She can't do that, she loves me, she loves us.'
'Really? Are you sure your Mahi can't do that? She is more than capable. I was shocked that
Mahi was willing to do so much to destroy you, in fact I admire her little black heart, simply
amazing. I was there standing by her side when she was plotting. I was there from the very
beginning, I married you at her behest, the poisoning, it was us. She was the brains behind this
all along, we were just going to take wealth but she earned that instead and destroyed you
without using your wealth. I even have evidence, look.'
Ariana shows me the screen of her phone which contains a video of Mahira using a machine to
cut my grandmother into pieces, the next video is of her sleeping with a guy then promising him
that she will destroy someone and they will be together when it ends.
'There's no such thing as happily ever after. Your Mahira is an absolute monster, she's been a
wolf hiding in sheep skin, acting innocent, luring you in until you fell for her and then, destroying
you.'
How could she do this to me? How could you do this to me Mahi?
'Mahi was arrested once, but because she's got the judges wrapped around her beautiful little
finger she got away but here's what you can do, torture her yourself, teach her a lesson, turn her
to a zero from a hero. Avenge your family's death.'
'No! This is a lie, it can't be true. Mahi can't... she's not capable of…'
'She is, she is so capable and she has all the reasons to do this to you, so many reasons. In
high school you rejected her, so she has a reason to do this to you. Your poor sister Elena was
Mahira's pawn then later she used her son's. Those children, whom you consider your own,
aren't yours. Angelo and Alexander are someone else's children not yours, she never loved
you.'
She used me, she fuckin used me, she used me for her dirty little game. I roared loud putting
everything I had in it but it did not erase what she did nor did it lessen the pain in my heart.
The DNA report was there, the videos, pictures were there and even real life evidence was
there.
'Thane, you can't let Mahira win. She played you. She's a psychopath and she'll ruin you. Do
something about it Thane. The law can't punish her but you can. Take everything away from her
and make her feel the same pain she caused you.'
Ariana turned away and left and I let her leave, I let her leave because Mahira deserved more
punishment than Ariana. I let her go because she was just a pawn in the game and Mahira was
the mastermind.
I let her go because its Mahira I wanted to cause pain, it's her I wanted to torture, its her I
wanted dead.
I will make you pay for everything Mahira, after all I was always right about you but you made
me the villain in front of the whole world. After everything I did for you, this is how you paid me back, you played your game so well but it's my turn now Mahi, you will pay for each drop of
blood, every tear drop, you will pay for it all.
My phone pierced through the heavy silence. I watched as it rang until the third ring. I finally
picked the call at the third ring but all I wanted now was Mahira on her knees, bloody, sweaty,
scarred, ugly and in pain.
Commander, 'we need you on duty as soon as possible. An attack has been planned, it might
ruin the country.'
'Yes sir.'
I went to the headquarters in London where Robert was in charge. He informed us of a threat a
terrorist was holding 9000 young girls and boys hostage, using them as experiments for some
antidote. Their underground operation was found and we were sent to evaluate it and rescue
the children.
My jet soared into the night sky,his focus laser sharp. My thoughts drifted to Mahira, her sweet
deceiving smile, the lies she told like it was nothing, the way she looked me in the eyes and told
me she loved me when she knew darn well she was using me, the times when she cried, those
crocodile tears that deceived me. I pushed aside the distraction.
My jet dived toward the enemy base, evading anti aircraft fire. My co-pilot, Bianca, navigated the
terrain. I parachuted into the darkness, landing silently. My night vision goggles revealed the
layout. I sprinted toward the central room. Gunfire erupted around me. I returned fire, precision
my only thought.
Suddenly a figure emerged from the shadows.
'We meet again, you are so obsessed with me aren't you.'
'Ariana?'
What is she doing here?
Ariana's smile twisted, 'I didn't think you'd be so interested to see my success, you know, I'm
working on making a cure for cancer, very effective.'
My grip on the gun tightened. Ariana's laughter echoed through the base. My eyes narrowed.
I'm going to be a hero, remembered throughout history. I wouldn't have been able to do it
without Mahira's help.'
'So Mahira is also a part of this. Where is she?'
Ariana chuckled.
'She's still my ally. Why should I snitch on her?'
I stepped closer slowly so as to not alert her but Ariana vanished into the shadows.
'Bianca, I need extraction.' I shouted into my comms.
My gaze swept the area. Ariana's escape routes are limited. Suddenly gunfire erupted from the
control room. I charged towards the control room. A loud explosion shook the room. I struggled
to my feet, eyes scanning the smoke filled room.
