Eira's POV
The deeper we drove into the woods, the quieter everything became.
Only the soft sound of wheels moving over the stone path and the rustling leaves filled the night air. Moonlight filtered through the tall trees, painting silver patterns over the road ahead.
I sat quietly beside Jason, occasionally glancing at him. His sharp side profile looked calm, but there was something unreadable in his eyes tonight.
"You still look upset," he finally said.
I looked away toward the woods. "I am trying not to be."
His hand left the steering wheel briefly and rested over mine. Warm. Steady.
"Rafe succeeded in getting into your head," he said. "You know how he is."
"Well, he said it so casually," I muttered. "Like it was just another normal thing you do everyday."
Jason let out a quiet sigh. "For wolves, maybe it is."
