We were accompanied into a car by five 'people' on the day of departure.
Apparently, nothing Christopher did to change our fates worked. Christopher had escorted us to the car, promising that he would try to get to us as soon as he could.
I wanted to ask him why he wasn't coming with us as planned but I felt self aware with the way the bodyguards were staring at us.
As Cass entered climbed into the car with a defeated look on her face, I looked back at Christopher who smiled at me.
"Alaric will accompany you," he said like it was supposed to be some kind of reassurance.
"Thanks," I said sarcastically but I don't think he noticed.
I saw Alaric emerge from behind Chris with a foul expression. Must suck losing the position of heir to a 'half breed' you looked down on all your life.
I entered the vehicle without another word and took Cass' hand in mine, interlocking it.
"We'll be fine," I whispered to her and kissed her forehead.
