I always wonder why the original main characters are always portrayed as villains in reincarnation novels and such.
Their personalities are usually drawn as hot-tempered, overconfident, foolish, with great ability to attract girls and boundless talent, then exaggerated so they can be easily defeated by the isekai, reincarnation protagonist.
The more I read, the more I see every trope is exactly the same. The original main character will always be that type of person and will always be hated by readers.
Sometimes there are differences, but overall they are still labeled as the main villain of the story.
So I always wonder if there are any works where the isekai, reincarnation protagonist can become close with the original main character?
Luckily there are some, but not many, and the level of closeness doesn't seem to match with the female leads, more like casual friends.
That's why I'm always curious what if the original main character and a supporting character, villain, or background character were best friends?
Well, as long as it's not the type where the original main character is exaggerated too much, because I have to admit that those authors deliberately write those characters in a way that's easy to hate so they don't have to feel sorry for them.
Especially in Chinese works, almost—no, ALL OF THEM, ALL OF THEM have this trope!
I'd rather die than share a world with that kind of main character. Those guys are mostly girl-crazy, arrogant like Gilgamesh, and shameless to the core of the earth. They like pretending to be a pig to eat the tiger and farm aura for everything.
The funny thing is, compared to the original main character, the isekai, reincarnation protagonists aren't any different. At best they are just better at hiding their true nature, and since we're put in their perspective, we sympathize with them more. I swear these guys are just as bad as the original main characters.
But now I've come to this world, so I count as the main character, right? If that's true, it's extremely troublesome...
Moreover, if the original main character is too naive and believes in justice too much, that's not good either, because as soon as someone do something that they sees as bad, they will definitely turn around and obstruct them.
I hope the main character is the type who has morals but also the necessary ruthlessness, the kind of person who is willing to kill bad guys if they truly pose a danger to everyone, instead of forgiving them no matter how many people they've killed.
I hope Aelith is that kind of person, because if not, I will find a way not to get too close, and might even turn hostile because of future events that are very very unfair to innocent people.
I'm not saying I'm a good person or anything, but I won't like a mass murderer being forgiven.
That's why I don't have any intention of befriending her yet. Even though we're in different classes, I have to observe her for a while before deciding if she's worth becoming friends with.
Luckily, the early period of the game is mostly for introducing other supporting characters, and it will clearly show her personality in my eyes.
I really am a bit opportunistic, but those future events are no joke. I need the main character's power (especially her yami form) as well as some future knowledge to solve a few of those events with minimal casualties, or even no casualties if possible.
I am still a modern person. I still have morals and I still have compassion.
And no one wants a bad ending to happen. Almost every player hopes for a happy end.
"Alright, thank you all for listening to the lesson. Teacher hopes you will continue this performance next time so teacher can feel more confident," Miss Erista cheerfully said goodbye to us and left, leaving behind a somewhat cheerful atmosphere.
Anyway, there were only three periods this afternoon so it was no surprise that everyone was happy like this.
"Ah Tryo, do you like her? Your taste is quite unique~" Lucas put his arm around Tryo's shoulder.
"I can explain..."
"The more you explain the more you expose yourself."
"No, I'm serious, you guys have to listen to me...."
As for Vux, she was still a bit stunned after realizing that no one looked down on her or anything, making her still unable to accept this because it was challenging her beliefs.
"Igor!"
"Hm?" I turned my head and saw Alice coming over.
She placed something on the desk, then smiled at me.
"A thank you gift. I bought it from Caesar Street!"
It was a card box with a light blue color, matching the ice element I was using.
...when did she buy it? I remember we both rushed straight to class?
"...how many credits did you spend on this? It looks pretty high quality."
"Um... I think it was 50 credits?"
That's one full session of five periods... Although it could be earned back quite easily, spending that many credits was still quite a lot for a new student.
"You didn't have to buy this for me? I already have one on my hat?"
"It's fine! You can use this card box to store cards you don't need or side cards. As long as you use the box, I'm happy!"
"...you know I won't treat this box badly. I'll use it as my main card box."
"Wow, then I'm off!"
Alice waved her hand and left, leaving me sighing.
"..." Kaiser next to me stared at me intently.
"What?"
"Nothing, nothing." Kaiser replied, stood up and left immediately.
Why does this guy like to hide what he's saying? Saying a little bit wouldn't hurt anyone?
"When did you get so close to Alice?" Alvin came over, looked through the door then at me.
"Just recently when we explored the old dormitory together, so we became close."
"Really? What was inside?"
"There was this." I took out a card named Ghost Girl and showed it to him.
"...you didn't have to show it to me, just telling me is enough."
"I wanted to show off the card like how Satoshi/Ash shows off a newly caught Pokemon."
"Huh?"
"Nothing."
Alvin raised an eyebrow slightly, then sighed.
"Anyway, want to go with me?"
"Back to the dormitory or to Caesar Street?"
"Of course to Caesar Street first."
"Are you planning to buy something?"
"Yea."
Hearing that, I left with him.
"Oiii!!"
Both of us stopped and turned our heads to look.
Oh, it was Lucas, so nothing special.
We both kept walking while Lucas yelled and chased after us.
"HEY HEY! YOU GUYS ARE REALLY LEAVING ME BEHIND?!"
"Yeah, bringing you along is too annoying."
"Do you need to be that straightforward?"
So the three of us headed to Caesar Street.
Since I had a new card, I needed some materials to make it fit my deck, while Alvin wanted to create a new monster card.
I didn't ask Lucas, just looking at him I already knew what he was planning to do.
"Tomorrow is the last day, the day after we can rest!" Lucas said excitedly.
"And?" Alvin asked.
"Tsk tsk, don't you know how to enjoy the Saturday and Sunday break? Those two days we don't have to wear school uniforms and can wear anything. I might go to places we normally don't have time for, like the area for third-year students to see what's inside!"
"What are you going there for? Disturbing people while they're studying will deduct credits, and they study on Saturdays too."
"Getting permission from the teachers is fine, and I have relatives there so I want to visit them too."
"Oh, then why are you telling me?" Alvin said.
"..." Lucas looked at Alvin and didn't say anything else.
Alvin, you're quite talented at ragebaiting...
Bang!
A loud noise rang out right ahead. The three of us jumped and looked forward.
Right in front, there were two girls dressed extremely out of place compared to those following them. One blonde girl with drill hair wearing light noble clothing, and the other with bright red hair wearing a Japanese female student uniform but in black.
One held a fan, the other held a baseball bat while chewing gum.
...just by their appearance you could tell what their personalities were like.
"You nobles don't know how high the sky or how thick the earth is and dare to provoke us?! Believe me I'll punch all your teeth out?!" A guy with pompadour hair standing behind the bright red-haired girl pointed straight at the girl in front.
"Who gave you permission to point at Lady Lisa like that, you lowly commoners?! Believe me I'll execute you?!" A guy with slicked-back hair right behind the girl pointed at the other guy and said.
Both girls raised their hands to stop the people behind them from speaking further.
...I know these two girls.
Both were delinquent students with very distinct personalities.
The blonde girl was Lisa Lisanna, an extremely high-class noble girl from Gilgamesh class.
The bright red-haired girl was Yukiko, a yankee, the big sister of Beowulf class in her year.
Both were in year 8, same year as Jane (Why is it always Gilgamesh class and Beowulf class?)
The reason I know them clearly is because these girls come from a small mandatory event in the plot.
You can choose one of the two to establish a faction right here. The one not chosen won't appear much or might even disappear.
Actually, factions aren't that important because they don't affect how people see you, except that people in the same faction will obviously be more friendly.
Oh, and of course, both can be romanced.
"Those two are..." Alvin narrowed his eyes.
"Upperclassmen," Lucas said.
"Thanks captain obvious," Alvin looked at Lucas.
"Those two aren't wearing uniforms, does that mean they could be Guardians or... just don't like wearing them?"
"They don't like wearing them, they're delinquent students," I answered casually.
"...how do you know?" Both looked at me.
"By looking at what they're wearing on their wrists. Those are delinquent cuffs. People who wear them will have credits deducted continuously for every bad action without needing to be caught by teachers."
"How do you know that?"
"Read books."
"Makes sense," both said.
Clang!
The baseball bat slammed onto the ground. Yukiko's face was extremely cold while blowing a bubble.
"I remember I already said it, right? Can you stop making me sick with your actions?"
"Ohohoho, so what I do accidentally catches the attention of commoners? In that case, you should wash your eyes again to see my noble appearance more clearly~"
"You narcissistic girl, you really want to die?"
"If I die, I want to die in the arms of a white horse prince rather than a monkey that just crawled out of its cave~"
Uh oh, their auras were spreading everywhere.
All the underlings had extremely unpleasant expressions, almost ready to fight if the two gave the order.
"...should we leave or stay and watch the show?" Alvin asked.
"I want to watch them fight!" Lucas said excitedly.
"Are you two idiots? Go stop them instead?"
"Why?"
"The academy has a rule that if students fight and outsiders just watch, they will also be considered accomplices."
"WHAT?!" Lucas panicked, while Alvin just remembered the rule.
"There are only two ways: one is to leave, two is to stop them."
"Then why not choose to leave?"
"If we stop them we get credits," I answered directly.
Lucas and Alvin blinked, then their eyes lit up.
When it comes to money, they definitely had to participate.
So I casually walked forward, turned around and gave both of them a thumbs up as if saying 'watch me.'
Seeing the two about to take action, I suddenly stood right next to the two upperclassmen and raised my hand.
"Um... two seniors?"
Both stopped and turned to look at me.
"Who is this?"
"Your little brother?"
"If I had a little brother, he would have to be a more prestigious noble, not someone who looks clumsy like this."
I knew that hurt.
"Well... I know you two don't seem to like each other much, but can you not fight here?"
Hearing that, both looked at each other then burst out laughing.
"Ohohoho!"
"Hahahaha!"
"I don't know what you're thinking by daring to say that but I appreciate your attempt to mediate. However, my matter with this narcissistic b*tch is personal, so hurry up and leave."
"Although I don't want to admit it, this muscle brain is right. Sweetie, you should leave~"
Both showed friendly expressions toward me, then I delivered the final blow.
"I know this is a personal matter, but you two are delinquent students, right? If you fight here I'm afraid you'll lose a lot of credits. Instead of fighting physically, why don't you fight with cards? It's fairer and also clearly shows who is stronger."
"..." Both blinked at me, then turned to look at each other.
Although the two didn't like each other at all, even to the point of being unable to coexist, truthfully they had never dueled with cards before.
There were many reasons, but mostly because they looked down on each other. Lisa thought dueling with this monkey would dirty her cards, while Yukiko thought someone who always laughed like a lunatic wasn't worth dueling.
Now that this kid said it, both seriously considered it.
They had just been warned by the discipline committee yesterday. If they really fought now, they might even get expelled. Tsk, no choice then.
"Hey kid, what's your name?"
"Boy, do you mind if I ask your name?"
"I asked his name first, get lost you narcissistic girl!"
"So rude, someone like you isn't worth this boy's attention."
"Worth or not, it's not your turn yet!"
"You commoner!"
Seeing the two start insulting each other again, I let out a soft laugh.
"Yes, my name is Igor Snowy, a sixth-grade student from Charlemagne class. I hope to receive help from both of you seniors."
"Then thank you for the reminder." Both smiled upon hearing that.
On the other side, Lucas and Alvin rubbed their eyes and looked at what had just happened.
T-That's it?! That simple?!
