A few minutes later, Dein found himself inside a medium size room. Gritting his teeth in irritation, trying to do his best to hold himself back from genuinely breaking everything in this room.
In his mind, Scaredy tries to calm him down.
[H-hey… don't mind them. They don't know anything, don't let them get to you!]
Dein clicked his tongue. Throwing his briefcase into whatever corner before hurriedly taking his shirt off. The little girl, chimed in in his mind.
[Yeah mister! I mean, all they did was laugh and make fun of you! Isn't that a bit fun?]
"Dammit, can you guys shut up!"
Dein screamed at the two. They're really being annoying right now. Adding to the fact that he's already pissed. Of course he knows that it's not their fault.
Because it's that damn Caster's fault! Why the hell did he have to mention that? Spending two years in first nightmare? Of course that's unheard of!
"Because that's not what fucking happened!"
He only spent four days for Spell's sake! In fact, not even four. Three in a half! And yet no matter how he explained, everyone just kept mocking him for it! They laughed at the absurdity of it even though none of it is Dein's fault!
If anything it's the Spell's fault! As well as this people he's sharing a soul with!
Dein gritted his teeth. Their words still echoing in his mind.
"You spent two years and only got two memories? Ha…"
"…What did you even do? Hide the whole time?"
"And… haha, and you call yourself a Legacy?"
The last one really stung. Because Dein had already spent his whole life trying to prove he's worthy of that title. And this people just laughed at it! If only he could, he would beat them all up into a pulp one by one!
Tear them to shreds and show them how capable he is!
[But you can't.]
Serious reminded him.
"Tsk, shut up!"
Of course he knows he can't. If he did, he'll be labeled a criminal and get executed. Not even jailed, he'll be killed. The Clan of those Legacies will not stop at him. They may even wage war on the Clan of Hearth.
But still, the pride in Dein's heart just cannot accept this kind of humiliation. Luckily, with the trio stepping up. They slowly influenced his emotions and calmed him down.
Dein noticed their intervention but did not stop it. He needed it right now after all. No matter how much he hates having his emotions influenced.
However, he still clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes at the trio.
Just as he did that, the communicator in his arm rang an alarm. Signaling the start of the supper. The sleepers are probably already heading to the cafeteria. The thought made Dein not want to leave his room, afraid to hear the same mockery from earlier.
But that said, he cannot deny his growling stomach. One way or another, he will have to find a way to eat, even with his depressing flaw.
So, how is he going to do it?
He sighed. Finally making his decision. "Let's do it after they're all done."
In the end, he decided to steal some food in the night. Of course, any other sleepers in the building can just get any food they want any time they want, but Dein's flaw prevent that from happening. He would need to earn the food first before he could eat them after all.
In the days that will follow, Dein would try to find a better way to earn his right to eat. But right now, stealing is the only way for him to get his stomach full.
So to waste time, Dein sat on his bed and decided to do something he hadn't done yet since waking up yesterday.
He summoned his runes…
Name: Dein of Hearth
True Name:
Flaw: [Independent Mind]
Rank: Dreamer
Soul Core: Dormant
Soul Fragments: [0/250] [0/250] [0/250][0/250]
Soul Storage: [248]
When he reached the section where his soul fragments and the Soul Storage is located. Dein stopped. Hesitantly, he focused on Soul Storage and the spell quickly responded by showing another set of runes.
[Soul Storage has been opened]
[You currently have 248 Soul Remnants and 0 Soul Fragments. What do you wish to do?]
Then, before Dein's shocked eyes. A set of choices appeared before him.
[Absorb Remnants into Soul fragments.]
[Create a new Soul.]
[Locked.]
The choices almost made Dein and the trio jump. He did not even consider anymore what Soul Remnants meant. The only thing that has his eye's, his whole being's attention is the second option.
'C-create a new Soul?'
He gulped at the thought. It seems the voices in his mind has the same thought as the little girl suddenly manifested beside him.
"Does… does this mean we'll get a new member?" Dein doesn't know who's controlling the girls manifestation right now but he couldn't care less as he answered, shaking.
"Only one way to find out"
Then he clicked on the second option with his mind, gulping. The soft voice of spell did not make him wait, it did, however, disappointed him.
[Insufficient amount of Soul Fragments. Unable to create a new Soul.]
[Amount needed: 0/10,000]
'What…?' he thought, still unable to recover.
The fact that he could actually created a new Soul inside him was… a strange feeling. But the amount of Soul Fragments he needed is just absurd.
But then again…
'Well, I guess it's fair.' After all, Dein is literally creating a new Soul. The payment for it would be just as big of course!
Still, Ten Thousand Soul Fragments, not Remnants… wait, what even is Soul Remnants?
It said it could transform into a Soul Fragments so that does mean it's lower than a fragment?
It should be…
If a Soul Fragments job is to saturate the core, needing one thousand to do so. Then how many Soul Remnants does Dein needs to create a single soul fragments?
Again there's only one way to find out…
But Dein is a bit reluctant to do so. After all, there's still the last one. Dein might not be able to use the second option but the third one is still locked. What if there's a way to unlock it and the effect would be even better?
He bit his lips. After a while, he decided. If it's locked then it's not Dein's problem yet. The amount of fragments he needed for creating a new soul is staggering so it's not something he could tackle yet as well.
So, he finally turn to the first option. Turning Soul Remnants into Soul Fragments.
He held his breath again but the process is almost instantaneous. The moment Dein clicked the option:
[Absorb Remnants into Soul Fragments]
The amount of Soul Remnants in his Soul Storage immediately dropped at a staggering speed. Soon, it reached Zero.
And a new set of runes appeared before him. Announcing the result.
[The remnants of the souls you have defeated have been purified]
[You have acquired 12 Soul Fragments]
Dein's jaw dropped.
