Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Emergency Alert – “Do Not Look Outside”

At 2:17 AM, every phone in the city vibrated at once.

Not a normal notification.

Not a message.

An Emergency Alert.

---

The sound woke everyone instantly.

That harsh government alarm.

Loud enough to make hearts stop.

---

People grabbed their phones half asleep and saw the same message:

---

EMERGENCY WARNING

Remain indoors immediately.

Do NOT look outside.

Do NOT approach windows.

Do NOT respond to voices calling your name.

Further instructions will follow.

---

At first, everyone assumed it was a hack.

A mistake.

A test gone wrong.

---

Until the screaming started outside.

---

The First Five Minutes

Videos flooded social media immediately.

People laughing nervously.

Recording the empty streets.

Mocking the warning.

---

But in every video—

the same thing appeared eventually.

---

Someone standing outside.

---

Not moving.

Not speaking.

Just standing there.

---

One person in each street.

Perfectly still.

Facing the houses.

---

The Broadcast Cut

News channels tried reporting the situation live.

One anchor on a local station smiled awkwardly and said:

«"Authorities are investigating what appears to be a false emergency al—"»

---

Then she froze.

---

Slowly turned toward the studio window.

---

And whispered:

«"Why are they all looking at us?"»

---

The broadcast ended instantly.

---

The Rule Nobody Followed

Humans are curious.

That's the problem.

---

The more the alert repeated:

DO NOT LOOK OUTSIDE

—the more people wanted to look.

---

Curtains moved across the city.

Windows opened.

Phones recorded.

---

And everyone who looked reported the same thing:

---

The people outside weren't normal.

---

The Standing People

Their bodies looked almost human.

Almost.

---

But slightly wrong.

---

Too tall.

Arms too long.

Heads tilted unnaturally.

---

And their faces—

blurred.

---

Not physically blurred.

More like the human brain refused to process them correctly.

---

The longer you stared—

the harder it became to focus.

---

My Neighborhood

I received the alert too.

2:17 AM exactly.

---

At first I ignored it.

Until my neighbor began screaming.

---

Loud.

Panicked.

Cut off suddenly.

---

Then silence.

---

Complete silence.

---

No dogs barking.

No traffic.

No insects.

Nothing.

---

I checked my phone again.

Another alert had appeared.

---

SECOND WARNING

Do NOT acknowledge anyone outside.

If someone familiar is standing outdoors—do NOT let them inside.

---

That's when my mother called me.

---

The Call

She sounded terrified.

---

"Don't look outside," she whispered immediately.

---

I asked what was happening.

---

Then her voice changed.

Slightly.

---

Too calm.

Too flat.

---

And she asked:

«"Have you checked your window yet?"»

---

The call disconnected immediately afterward.

---

The Knocking Begins

At exactly 2:31 AM—

knocking started downstairs.

---

Three slow knocks.

Pause.

Three more.

---

Then a voice:

«"Open the door."»

---

It sounded exactly like my younger brother.

---

Except—

my brother was staying with relatives in another city.

---

Online Reports

Social media became chaos.

People posting blurry images before accounts vanished minutes later.

---

Every post repeated the same details:

- Someone familiar outside

- Voices imitating loved ones

- Standing figures at intersections

- Strange movement in peripheral vision

---

One viral video showed a woman opening her front door for her crying daughter.

---

Security footage later showed the daughter had never left her bedroom upstairs.

---

The Third Alert

At 2:46 AM—

another emergency message arrived.

---

FINAL WARNING

Do not make eye contact with entities outdoors.

If observed, remain still.

Do not respond if they imitate family members.

They are most active between 3:00 AM – 3:33 AM.

---

No government logo this time.

No official formatting.

---

Just black text on a red screen.

---

The Window

I made the mistake eventually.

---

Just a quick glance through the curtain.

One second.

Maybe less.

---

There was someone standing directly across the street.

---

Tall.

Thin.

Motionless.

---

Facing my apartment.

---

Even from that distance—

I could tell its face wasn't right.

---

Then suddenly—

it moved.

---

Not walking.

Not running.

---

Just suddenly closer.

---

Like frames skipping in a broken video.

---

The Eye Contact

I accidentally looked directly at its face.

---

For a moment—

everything went silent.

---

My ears rang violently.

---

And the thing smiled.

---

Too wide.

Too many teeth.

---

Then my phone vibrated instantly.

New alert.

---

YOU HAVE BEEN OBSERVED

DO NOT MOVE AWAY FROM THE WINDOW.

---

My blood froze.

---

Because the message wasn't sent citywide anymore.

It was sent specifically to me.

---

The Street Outside

I looked again despite every instinct screaming not to.

---

The entire street was full now.

---

Dozens of them.

Standing silently outside houses.

Watching windows.

Watching people.

---

And every single one—

had a different face.

---

Faces copied from missing persons reports.

Dead relatives.

Old photographs.

People viewers recognized.

---

The Theory

A deleted forum from an emergency worker contained the most horrifying explanation.

---

The entities aren't invading.

They've always been here.

---

The alert was never meant to protect people.

---

It was meant to stop people from noticing them.

---

Because awareness strengthens them.

---

The more people look—

the clearer the entities become.

---

And once enough people recognize them—

they can enter homes freely.

---

3:00 AM

At exactly 3:00—

every streetlight outside went dark simultaneously.

---

My apartment lost power seconds later.

---

Only my phone screen remained lit.

---

One final emergency alert appeared.

---

DO NOT LET THEM SEE YOU BLINK

---

Then—

slowly—

someone knocked on my bedroom door.

---

Inside the Apartment

Not downstairs.

Not outside.

---

Inside.

---

Another knock came.

Closer this time.

---

And then—

my own voice whispered from the hallway:

«"I know you looked."»

---

Right Now

It's currently 3:12 AM.

---

Something is standing outside my room.

Breathing softly.

---

Every few minutes—

it mimics another familiar voice.

---

My mother.

My brother.

My friends.

---

Trying to make me open the door.

---

And the worst part?

---

I can see its shadow beneath the gap.

---

Too tall.

---

Warning

If you ever receive an emergency alert telling you not to look outside—

listen to it.

---

Lock your doors.

Close your curtains.

Ignore familiar voices.

---

And whatever happens—

do not make eye contact.

---

Because once they know you can see them—

they stop pretending to stay outside.

---

To be continued…
