Chapter 56 - Chapter 56 「Jokes」

"Happy one month!" Jet hugged Han from behind as he cooked in the kitchen.

Han scoffed, scrambling eggs. "You always care about the little things the most," he replied, though there was a small smile on his lips. "Happy one month. Take a seat. I'll be gone for half a day—you can stay here or head home, your choice."

"I'll talk to Livia and June. We haven't spoken since they overheard the fake breakup," Jet muttered, scratching his head.

"They'll be home soon, hopefully," Han said, taking off his apron and getting ready to leave. "Tell them I made extra breakfast. Bye!" He leaned in and pecked Jet on the cheek before heading out.

Jet waved goodbye and sat down to eat. This was only the second time they'd met properly since becoming a couple, but Han was still busy with filming and narrating the movie.

The house felt strangely empty. It was big, beautifully furnished, yet somehow lacked warmth. Unlike Jet's tiny studio apartment—where Peach and Melon squeaked nonstop—there was always something keeping him occupied there.

Jet chewed on his food, his mind drifting.

"What do couples normally have in their homes to make things feel more lively?" he mused out loud.

"Usually, kids running around."

Jet turned, startled to see June and Livia entering with bags of groceries and accessories.

"Surprised to see you here," June added.

Jet relaxed. "Yeah, I'll explain something to you both after you're done putting things away," he said, then gestured to the kitchen counter. "Han made breakfast for you guys."

"If it's scrambled eggs, I'm in," Livia said, setting her bags down. June simply shrugged and followed her sister.

Soon, all three were sitting at the table, eating. Jet glanced at them a few times, feeling slightly awkward.

"So, what was it you wanted to explain?" June finally asked, breaking the silence.

Jet sat up straighter, taking a deep breath. "Remember when you overheard Han and me saying we wanted to break up?"

Livia raised a brow. "You mean the fake breakup where you lied in front of his parents about being a real couple?"

Jet nodded. "So you knew it was fake?"

June chuckled. "Of course! You completely switched from 'I'm done with him' to 'I love him so much' the second his parents walked out. It was hilarious."

"And remember when you answered Han's father—" Livia started.

"Okay, maybe let's not go too far back," Jet quickly cut in, his face heating up.

He cleared his throat. "I'm not sure if Han told you this or not, but that fake relationship… well, it turned real."

The sisters froze, staring at him. Then they turned to each other, eyes wide.

Livia suddenly held out a hand as if to stop Jet from moving, and the next second, both she and June jumped up and started screaming.

"YESSS!! IT HAPPENED!" June shrieked.

"OH MY DAYS, IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!" Livia echoed, matching her energy.

Jet could only watch in awkward amusement as the two Betas lost their minds in front of him. Eventually, they sat back down, still buzzing with excitement.

"How long?" Livia asked, leaning in.

"A month," Jet answered.

"How did it happen?" June pressed eagerly.

Jet scratched his cheek, feeling a little shy. "We realized we liked each other."

"Girl, we lost our brother to an Alpha! And an Alpha with taste!" Livia laughed, nudging June, who giggled along.

The conversation carried on, flowing easily as they found some shared interests—though not enough to keep the excitement going forever. Eventually, the three of them sat in a silence. Jet, however, kept looking around, his gaze lingering on the house's design before rolling his eyes.

"What's on your mind?" Livia asked. "You seem annoyed."

Jet hesitated, unsure if they'd agree with him. "Just thinking about someone I don't like."

June scoffed. "That's normal! Tell us some 'fun facts' about this person."

Jet smirked. "If you insist."

He started talking—without revealing any names—but it didn't take long for the sisters to figure out exactly who he was talking about.

"Not gonna lie, Victor is obsessed with Han to the point where it's just annoying!"

"Mhm!" Jet sighed, resting his head on his palm, staring off. "And Han says I act jealous when I hear about him…" he muttered.

June smiled knowingly. "It's totally normal. Even my boyfriend gets annoyed when I talk too much to his friends."

Jet perked up. "Boyfriend?"

June nodded. "You're a commoner dating an actor—what's wrong with me dating someone I love?"

Jet panicked, waving his hands. "I-I didn't mean it like that!"

Livia and June burst out laughing at his flustered reaction.

"We're just lucky Han chose you instead of Victor," Livia said, still grinning. "Otherwise, Han's mother would have banned us from seeing him already."

Jet raised an eyebrow.

"So, did you know that Han's parents don't live together?" June asked. Jet shook his head. "Me and Livia live with Mr. Yau while Victor and his parents lived with Madam Yau. We and Han grew up like siblings and Mr Yau came home late to spend time with Han."

"June and I aren't blood related either. Victor had no friends but was the same age as Han, and when they both grew up, Madam Yau introduced each other. When Victor saw Han, he was immediately in love," Livia continued. "This created a pawn for Madam Yau, thinking of getting more money out of Han than Mr Yau, so she plans to get these two together. Setting up dates, before she adds Victor to the dates and says it's a perfect match!"

Jet frowned, the new information weighing on his mind. "...Han really has it rough, huh? His own mother using him like that."

"He knows," Livia replied, "but it never stopped him from chasing his dreams. He always wanted to be an actor."

June suddenly turned to Livia, whispering something, and both burst into laughter. Jet blinked at them, confused.

"You know Han loves reading, right?" June grinned. "Do you know why?"

Jet shrugged.

Livia smirked. "He once said he had this dream where his lover was a writer, but he didn't know how to read, so his lover had to teach him. And ever since then, he fell in love with reading."

Jet chuckled, finding the story oddly sweet—until Livia added, "But honestly, we just think he was dumb and needed an excuse to study. Cute, though."

Jet froze, his smile lingering as the words echoed in his head.

Livia's phone suddenly rang—her alarm. It was already 1:30 PM, and she had a double date planned. June decided to tag along for some shopping.

As they grabbed their things, Han walked in, catching just the tail end of their conversation.

"Both your partners are Betas?" Jet asked curiously.

June nodded, but Livia didn't. "My girlfriend's an Omega," she replied, then turned to Jet with a teasing grin. "Actually, me and June were a little disappointed when we found out you were an Alpha."

Han, who had just stepped beside Jet, raised a brow at the comment. "Why say that?"

"Yeah," June laughed, tossing a knowing look at Livia. "If you were an Omega, this house would be way livelier… with more playing and running."

Jet furrowed his brows, trying to piece together the joke—then it hit him. His face turned bright red, and he immediately looked away.

Han, still lost, glanced between them. "What—" Then realization struck, and he scoffed, turning slightly pink himself.

Ooh, I love the contrast between the softness of Han and Jet's moment and the tension with Han's mother scheming in the background. It keeps the emotional balance—sweet but with that lingering threat.

Livia and June burst into laughter, high-fiving before grabbing their things and heading out.

Han walked over, tilting his head at Jet. "That went well."

Jet nodded, a smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah, it did… Reading for me?"

"Fencing for me?" Han countered, raising a brow. "Every life, I waited for you to write again."

Jet chuckled. "And I always picked up a sword, hoping you'd fence with me again. Well, I did write again."

"To be honest," Han admitted, "I haven't even held a sword in this life."

Jet gave him a knowing look, smirking. "Want to learn?"

Han leaned in, their foreheads touching. "Glad to."

"Ron, Ron… Ron what?!" Han's mother's voice echoed through the grand hall, frustration sharp in every word. She slammed a hand on the desk. "He didn't even say his last name!"

"Ma'am… do you need help?"

Victor's voice was smooth as he stepped inside, eyes glinting with curiosity.

She turned to him sharply, nodding. "I need you to get me photos of Ron. I want to track this man down."
