It had been a week since Mirshad returned home. A week of laughter. A week of warmth. A week of peace. The courtyard buzzed with light-hearted teasing. His brothers joked around. Sara and Sophia laughed as they prepared snacks. Baba leaned back, watching the family with silent joy. It felt like the world had finally exhaled.
Then—a shift.
A palace security guard approached the courtyard, hesitating. His voice broke the moment. "Sir… there's a woman at the main gate. She's been waiting for hours. Refused to leave. Says she needs to speak with you. Urgent." Mirshad turned his head, calm but curious. "Why wasn't I informed earlier? Bring her. Now."
She entered slowly. Dust on her clothes. Fear in her eyes. A woman who had cried too many tears. The moment she saw Mirshad, she tried to fall to her knees. But he was faster. He stepped forward, catching her by the arms. "No," he said gently. "Never kneel to me. You are a mother. You stand." Her lips trembled. Her sobs swallowed her words. "Sit," he told her, guiding her to the chair. "Breathe. You're safe now." A glass of water was placed in her hand. Time moved slowly. Then, finally, her voice returned. "Please... save my daughter." Everyone in the courtyard froze.
Her words poured out like broken glass. "Our city has a street... not a place, a nightmare. Drugs. Kidnapping. Children used like objects. No one dares to speak. The police... they fear them. The gangs run that street like demons. They take anyone. Boy. Girl. Even babies. My daughter left for school this morning. She never came back. A shopkeeper told me… a SUV pulled her in. They took her inside that street. I ran to the police. They shook their heads. Said they're helpless. Said they'll 'look into it' and vanished. I have no one else. I came here... because the world trusts you. And today, I am the world." She broke down again.
Mirshad didn't move for a long moment. Then, slowly, he stood. His voice was quiet. Deep. Unshakable. "I didn't know. I didn't see it. My city... my children..." He knelt before her. "Mother," he said, placing his hand over hers. "I will return your daughter. And I swear to you... from this day onward, no child will suffer under that darkness again." The family sat in silence, tears flowing down faces that had seen too much. Rayyan stood. Amir clenched his fists. Malik's eyes burned with rage. Sophia whispered, "They touched the wrong soul." Baba lowered his head. "This isn't just a mission now. This is justice."
The wind shifted. The courtyard trees bent ever so slightly. The birds went silent. Mirshad walked to the edge of the palace and looked toward the city. His eyes were still. Calm. But his soul had declared war.
