Chapter : 5 : So My Journey Begins :
" So the winner of this Pokemon battle is David Roy and his pokemon Pidgy . "
" .... "
For a moment after nurse joy made the announcement no one in the stadium spoke .
And then it was as if a dam that had broken free that all of a sudden the entire stadium burst out in excited cheers .
" OMG ! Did you see that he actually won? "
" How the hell did he win ? I thought he was surely going to lose . "
" Hmph ! If you had that much brain then wouldn't you have won your own match idiot . "
" Well it doesn't matter, the fact is that he won fair and square. "
One after another everyone in this stand just started to cheer and call out David's name .
While many of them have yet to understand what actually happened in the fight, they still choose to cheer for the winner.
Moreover they had a good impression of this boy called David from the beginning .
And now his victory against an opponent who had a type advantage made David even more popular .
As the cheers from the crowd continued David on the other hand was entirely focused on something else .
" Hahaha ! Great job buddy, we won the match because of you . "
Right after the match had ended David quickly went over to look at his Pidgey .
And after making sure that it was unharmed he finally released a sigh of relief .
Then he started to gently pat it's wing and gently congratulated on the victory .
" Prr - ree !!!! "
The Pidgey on the other hand looked full of energy even now after the battle .
And quickly leaned into David's comforting massage and started to rub his face in excitement .
" Congratulations David you have successfully won this round of battle with excellent results . "
At this moment nurse joy came over to congratulate.
David's performance today had made a very good impression on her .
Not only was this young man polite with a level head to keep the composer on the battle arena .
But at the same time he was very kind to his Pokemon and even their opponents who insulted him .
This was the mark of a real Pokemon trainer .
" Thank you nurse Joy . "

When David looked up he saw it was John who had come .

However this time John's behaviour was far different .
While he still had the smirk face of an overconfident person at least the visible mocking smile was gone .
Now when he looked towards David his eyes did not held the same disdain .
Instead it held a measure of respect and a little shame for his previous actions .
" Thanks bro and you did great as well. "
" Haha ! As if .... Just say the truth that I lost pretty badly . "
" Well I would say we did our best . "
After some talking the earlier tension between John and David relaxed a lot with both of them shaking hands in a friendly gesture .
And it was during this talk David understood a bit more about John .
' While he is indeed an arrogant jerk, he still cares a lot about his Pokemons . '
After losing the match John didn't push the blame on the Pichu and took the responsibility of the defeat on himself .
This was something David hadn't expected to see .
He had expected the other side to throw a tantrum over the loss but this unexpected situation showed that it was not the case .
Not only did John take the responsibility for the defeat, he also quickly asked nurse Joy whether he should take Pichu for a check up or not.
And only after getting a good reply from her did he let out a sigh of relief .
' I hope we can meet again in the future, my friend . '
With that both of them left the battle arena and the rest of the matches started once again .
And it was only after half an hour did all the matches came to an end .
After the exam had ended nurse Joy came forward in front of everyone .
" Thank you everyone for participating in today's examination. The results will be announced in 2 days . "
" So for now all of you can go home and prepare yourself ."
After this announcement many people stayed within the Pokemon centre for some time talking to each other and making connections with their new friends .
On the other hand some other people including David choose to immediately leave the Pokemon center and go home .
Time Skip : 2 Days Later :
Location : Celadon City Pokemon Centre : Nurse Joy's Office :
" Nurse Joy, may I come in . "
" Oh ! it's you David . Yes come in . "
Looking at all the paper work in front of nurse Joy at this moment David felt a little sad for the women .
' Sinh ! It seems no matter if you are from the Pokemon world or a leader of a hidden shinobi village the legendary paperwork is still the strongest opponent you will ever face . '
After giving a few seconds of silence for all those who are fighting such a legendary opponent David finally took his seat .
" So David, there are some things that I wanted to talk to you about . "
" In the exam 2 days ago you have scored very well getting one of the highest marks . "
" And as such the Pokemon league has prepared a lot of rewards for you . "
With that nurse joy quickly brought a box and kept it on the table .
" First of all, since you have scored such high marks you will be able to choose which Pokemon professor you would like to have your registration under . "
" So have you decided on this yet? "
Hearing this question David did not take very long to answer .
" Nurse joy I would like to register myself under professor Samuel Oak . "
Listening to this decisive answer nurse Joy did not look particularly surprised and only gave a satisfied smile .
To be honest this was one of the main reasons why so many people participated in this exam .
Because getting yourself under professor oak means that you have practically taken shade under one of the biggest trees of the Pokemon world .
Professor Oak was not only famous in the Kento region but the entire Pokemon world knew him as one of the best Pokemon professors .
So obviously David or anyone in his shoes would choose professor Samual Oak .
" Alright with that settlement you will get your pokédex from professor Oak so you will have to travel over there . "
With that done she opened the box in front of him that contained some items .
" These are the other rewards given by the Pokemon league for your journey so please take a look . "
With that he looked inside the box and a few items neatly placed .
The first item was 8 pokeballs.
While may not seem very extraordinary it was a common but very important tool for a Pokemon trainer .
But the real treasure where the ones that came after it .
These consisted of 2 different documents which nurse Joy started explaining .
" This first document is the official recognition that you have passed this trainer aptitude exam with flying colours . "
Nurse Joy pointed to the first document and explained .
" The second document is about a recommendation given to you by the local branch of the Pokemon league . "
" This was issued after the local branch analyzed your performance in the exam and felt quite satisfied with it . "
Now this caught David's attention .
A recommendation letter from the local Pokemon league branch is a matter of great importance .
' Especially for a beginner like me . '
Such recommendations gives a trainer small but very crucial advantages .
Like if there is any new notification from the Pokemon league or new events you would be the one of the first ones to know .
Then there is the fact that such a recommendation means that you will get a better discount on Pokemon related items in almost every major cities in the Kanto region .
And along with that there are multiple other benefits including some special passes and allowances for anyone who holds a recommendation letter .
' But these things are very rare to get and they don't give it out so quickly . '
' Unless... '
Looking at nurse Joy's smiling face David had a feeling that the reason why he got this recommendation letter was not only because of his performance in the examination .
But also because of her words .
It was clear that she must have put some good words for him and along with his performance the local branch made this decision .
" Thank you nurse Joy . "
Thinking about it David felt a surge of gratitude in his heart towards the beautiful women in front of him and gave a respectful thanks .
" Oh no need to thank me David I just hope that you will take care of yourself and your pokemons in the future . "
With that nurse Joy took out the last item .
When David looked at it he found that it was a backpack .
And immediately small grin appeared on health face .
This one was one the best models out there in the market made for Pokemon trainers .
" This is a small gift that the Pokemon centre has prepared for you so I hope you will like it . "
" Thank you nurse Joy, I am absolutely thrilled to have this . "
After sometime just as the conversation was about to conclude David suddenly thought of something and spoke up immediately .
" Nurse Joy, can I make a request please? "
Hearing the sudden seriousness in his voice nurse joy laptop and maintained her soft smile .
" Of course you can, David . "
" And if it is something that I can help you with then I will certainly do that . "
After getting the confirmation David took a deep breath and spoke out loud .
" Nurse joy when I go to Professor Oak I should be eligible to get myself a starter Pokemon correct . "
" Yes that's true you would be given the chance to choose between the three classic starters of our region . "
This was another benefit of doing well in the trainers aptitude exam .
Getting one of the three classic starters of the region had always been one of the major dreams of any new Pokemon trainer .
And getting a high position in the trainer aptitude exam gives you the chance to fulfill that goal .
In fact even if you already have a designated starter Pokemon before this it doesn't matter .
Because even then you will get the chance to choose between the three classic starter Pokemon .
Obviously you can refuse this offer if you want to but that is up to you entirely .
" Nurse Joy, is it possible for me not to take one of the three starter Pokemon from professor Oak? "
" And instead I would like to choose the Pidgey that I fought a long side with in the exam . "
Just as his words fell the room became pin drop silent .
After some time which felt very heavy, nurse Joy finally spoke but this time the smile on her face had vanished, replaced by a serious expression .
" David, while you can certainly not choose to take one of the starter pokemons, it is not quite a common for what you have just said . "
" As such would need to know why you would make such a decision first . "
After she finished speaking she looked towards David .
Understanding that this was the decisive moment David spoke up .
" Nurse Joy while fighting alongside Pidgey I believe we have already found a bond of friendship . "
" And I feel reluctant to leave on my journey without the support of such a companion . "
" But more importantly I believe that Pidgy has already become a part of the family . "
After he finished speaking he looked up to nurse joy hoping for a positive answer .
Everything he said just now was all true and came from his heart .
He could eventually get all the starter Pokemons in his journey .
" But this work is my only chance to get the Pidgey. "
After sometime nurse Joy finally dropped her serious expression and her smile returned .
" While what you asked is something that is not commonly done by the Pokemon league but .... "
She pauses for a moment .
" But seeing how much you care for this Pidgey and using the recommendation letter I am sure it can be arranged . "
" So don't worry about it, as I will personally look into this matter . "
With that confirmation David finally left the room with excitement .
As he stepped outside the Pokemon centre under the bright sunlight he felt a new energy coming over him .
Looking at the city gates and then at the scenery outside he couldn't help but reach out his hand and say out loud .
" So my journey begins . "
( Author's Note : hello guys I hope all of you are doing well and I would like to say something very important about the nature of the story .
This fan fiction will be a balance between the main character's strategic thinking and his emotional bonds with Pokemon .
That is to say there will be the combination of strategic and tactical thinking by the main character but story will also emotional scenes especially with his close bond with his pokemons and new friends .
