Chapter 13 - Chapter 4: Noteworthy Occurrences (Part 1)

****

Couple of months has passed since that eventful frisson.

I kind of missed those day when everything is just so... What is the word?

I tilted my head slightly, searching for it.

Immersive.

Compare to what I had experienced this past couple of months, nothing really came close to that ballroom.

Although, there had been a few noteworthy occurrences that I can remember.

I was sitting on an authentic chair on the balcony of a massive building.

Sipping on a freshly made tea, I set the cup down with quiet satisfaction before reaching for the book lying across the table.

Suprisingly it not that difficult at all to climb the rank. You can do literally anything as long as it benifical to the organisation and they will reward it.

For example I had already been promoted twice in the span of a few months.

My eyes traced the cover of the book. I had brought it the night before because I recognised the author's work.

'Of course I look for the most rewarding job with the shortest amount of time to do.'

Usually involve information gathering, in which you could said I am quite the expert off.

Not including the time I spend searching for miss Alren that doesn't count.

From time to time I do get distracted. But I can't blame myself for it, my job couldn't get any more tedious than it already was.

"So, shall we begin?"

"Sir, you talking to yourself again" the room maid speak in gentle voice as a friendly reminder.

"I know" I replied, already opening the book in my hands.

So where do we begin.

***

The first thing came to mind, was during the journey to Kreshenc City.

It would still be a day or two before I reached my destination

Along the way, I had passed through multiple human settlements. But on that particular day, I stumbled upon a sight I couldn't ignore.

I pulled the reins to the left, and my horse turned, coming to a stop a moment later.

"Burn the kid!!!"

"Make sure he is death!!"

"Destroyed the cursed child!!!"

Agonising screams of the crowd, resenting on the clearly fearful and malnourished child.

In the middle of the crowd there were a large firewood gather and stake in the middle, which the motive of it purpose was quite clear.

It seems the town folk had gather together today to eradicate what they believe their bane of existance.

I dismounted and began pushing through the crowd. They didn't seem to notice me, their attention completely fixed on the child.

When I finally reached the front, I got a clear look at him.

His hands were chained. His body was being dragged across the ground.

Even the man pulling him looked terrified.

I didn't see it from a far but now I can clearly see the patch of death grass trail that left behind by the child.

"Oh, oh my....." A creeping smile form across my face.

"Is that.. the mortem curse I'm looking at?"

I said it while trying to cover my ovious expression.

"My lucky day it seems."

The child is now surrounded by several people holding chains, all of them visibly uneasy.

Suprisingly the kid didn't resist. He could have easily killed them by just a mere graze of his skin. So why didn't he?

For some reason... this specific moment feels familiar in some way or the other.

'No, there is no point on remembering.. but what do I do now.'

In the midst of uproar I close my eyes.

It didn't take long for me to decide.

I exhaled softly, before stepping forward.
