Chapter 10 - Death Is An Old Friend

I was beginning to recover my mind once again, the experience was hardly any different to last time I had had my mind blown.

I chuckled at that thought for some reason, I was barely even conscious enough to start recognising my surroundings once again. As I was sat there recovering I heard what sounded like distant thunder. The two demon girls were back.

"Please just leave, my head is absolutely killing me. Actually no I wish it was, trust me I don't know if I can fully describe the kind of pain I'm feeling right now but point is, it's bad."

I was probably unconscious during this part last time and so didn't feel just how bad it truly was.

The demons both looked confused, they inspected me much more closely this time. Then the same one as last time raised their hand and swung through my skull.

---

My eyes were starting to be able to see once again, the two demon girls were patiently waiting for me to heal this time. Not that my mashed potato of a brain would have been able to recognise that fact.

Eventually my brain started to work correctly once again. The two demons were still standing there, they looked like they were chatting peacefully.

"Are you done?" I asked.

They seemed to say something to me in response but I had no way of knowing what they said.

'They probably have no idea what I'm saying either, much like how I can't hear what they say through mana; their senses likely aren't sensitive enough to hear tiny vibrations in the air.'

One of the demons stood up for a moment from the rock they were sitting on, they then proceeded to open their mouth as if they were trying to scream. They didn't make a sound naturally but through my soul I was definitely able to feel the mana rattle.

I did the same, screaming at the top of my lungs back to them. They seemed to notice my screaming, their eyes opening in realisation.

They looked at me in fascination as the second demon pulled out some kind of tablet or notepad looking thing alongside what was clearly a pen and wrote something down before raising their hand to me.

"Yes, we can communicate through writing."

What I forgot was that these were demons. She didn't raise her hand to give me the notebook or anything.

I felt a force slam against my body before I was slammed into the ground, turning my whole body into paste.

---

By the time my brain recovered this time I noticed that the second demon had left, the first demon didn't pay much attention to me though, simply sitting on the same rock she had been before.

I was thirsty, very thirsty. I wondered how my body could regenerate almost entirely, creating mass out of god knows where and yet still require water. My body had just made water out of thin air to regenerate my body. I didn't understand it at all.

I stood up and inspected my blood soaked clothes, they hadn't been damaged much. There was some stretching but overall still in one piece. I began walking towards the direction I knew the river was in. I noticed that the sun was setting, the sky looked absolutely amazing.

The demon girl stomped her foot on the ground to get my attention, then when I turned around she looked at me and pointed at the ground where I had been before.

She was telling me to stay where I was. I looked at her before making a motion like cupping water into my hands and drinking from it. I was pretty sure she would understand what that meant so I began to walk again.

She once again stomped her foot, looking a lot more angry this time. She reached a hand into the air before mana poured out of her in such volume but at the same time with so long control it was staggering.

A moment later a ball of water seemed to condense in her hand. She sent the ball of water over to me which travelled in an arc before splashing all over me.

She stared at me, confused.

"I can't use any kind of magic right now. Why did you think I would be able to catch that?"

It didn't know I couldn't use mana though, everything here could use mana and I was seemingly intelligent. Surely even if collecting water was a problem for me, actually holding it shouldn't be. That's what I thought it was thinking at least.

It seemed to understand and once again gathered water but this time it kept the water in a ball for me to drink from.

'Only took a couple deaths for it to show some hospitality, maybe this won't be so bad.'

Not too long after that the second demon girl came back. She had brought another demon with her. This one looked similar to an older woman. The three demons began talking among themselves for a bit before the older woman turned to me and began to speak to me but there was once again no sound.

'Why are there only women?'

"Hello, I'm Apollo. I hope you will be a little more friendly than these two and and won't immediately kill me."

The older woman seemed surprised and began talking with the two girls once again. A few moments later the older woman raised her hand up to me.

"God damnit."

---

It was getting quite dark now but luckily I was still able to see. I didn't know exactly how much longer the light would last but I was sure this encounter was going to take longer.

The older demon in response to me sitting up again turned to the girls and it seemed as if she confirmed that yes I was in fact immortal. The two girls seemed frustrated, as if they had explained that to the older woman and were annoyed that they were forced to be here even longer now. That was what I thought at least, I didn't actually know for sure so I was just judging based on what I knew about human reactions to things.

The older woman gestured for me to follow them as they began to walk forwards toward the cliff edge. As they reached it they all took a step beyond the edge of the cliff and began flying. The way they controlled mana was truly a wonder to behold.

I stopped at the cliff edge.

"I can't fly."

The older woman didn't understand me, continuing to gesture at me to follow them.

'Alright they are going to probably cast a spell on me or whatever they are doing and carry me alongside them'

With shaky confidence I took a step off the cliff.

I plummeted.

'IS SHE AN IDIOT?' I thought to myself, screaming.

They seemed to try to catch up to me for a moment but they realised I was already going too fast. Either that or they realised that I would survive anyway so it didn't matter. They were trying to kill me anyway so if I was to die here then it was probably a job done for them anyway.

This time I wasn't falling in total darkness, I was fully able to see my surroundings. I was falling at an insane speed but compared to the horrifying scale of this place I was still stuck here falling for a long time.

It actually felt worse now that I could see the ground and could tell exactly how long it would take for me to get there.

I closed my eyes and tried to find some peace in the midst of my death.

---

I was being held inside what looked to be a ball of water beside the older demon and the two demon girls as we all flew through the sky.

We were flying over what looked to be some kind of town though at this point it had turned to night. Down below was a very typical town with lights and even a central hub I could see in the far distance.

It wasn't long after that we touched down onto the ground and I was allowed to walk once again. We were stood in front of some kind of massive facility, all three of the demons seemed to be speaking to yet another woman. I looked past them to see one of the guards who was... another woman.

'I wasn't that serious about it before but why are there so many women?'

As I looked closer I saw what looked like... barred windows.

'A prison.'

I ran instantly, not looking back. If I got stuck in there god knows when I'd be getting out.

I needed to get away and I needed to find a place to hi-

---

The prison was just, a pretty standard prison. There were plenty of things I didn't understand the purpose of in here but there were the usual things that a prison had. A bed, a toilet, and... a roommate.

This demon unlike all the grey skinned horned demons was, namely, a man.

That wasn't any comfort however. The man had deep dark red skin, leather like skin and much like all the other humanoid demons, horns.

Just looking at them was enough to incite a boiling all consuming rage within me, sure looking at the demon girls made me want to rip their guts out and hang their heads for all the others to see. This demon in front of me however...

Was the same race as the demon lord who destroyed my world.
