Seated in his office chair and without looking back at her, Canary said, "That's all I had to say to you. You can now leave."
His tone stayed calm. Too calm. Like he dismissed a file, not a person.
Lisa froze.
For a few seconds, she stood there, staring at his back, waiting for him to laugh, to turn around, to tell her it was a joke.
But nothing came.
Only silence.
It stretched between them, heavy and suffocating.
Lisa's voice finally broke through it, slow now, confused and shaking. "Are you really throwin away what we had like that?"
Canary tilted his head slightly, still not turning to face her.
"We ? What are you meaning? There was no we Lisa "
She stepped closer, her voice trembling more.
" Everything we've been through… I thought we loved each other truly. I thought we were going to be together forever."
The word together seemed to reach him. He let out a low laugh. Not warm. Not amused.
Wicked.
Then he slowly swiveled his chair halfway, just enough for her to see his profile.
"Lisa…" he said lightly, almost bored. "Don't think high of yourself."
Her lips parted.
"What?"
At that moment, he stood up. Slowly. Unhurried.
Like he had all the time in the world, while she had none.
He walked toward her, then circled her once, hands in his pockets, eyes scanning her like she meant nothing to him.
His voice dropped, controlled and sharp.
"So you really believed it?"
He circled her again.
"You thought I loved you?"
He scoffed.
" Did you forget that I hated you from the beginning?"
Lisa shook her head immediately, tears forming.
But he cut through her words without raising his voice.
"Let me tell you something."
He stopped in front of her, still angled away, not fully facing her.
"The only reason I came close to you… the only reason I said those words "
He leaned in slightly, voice colder.
"…was because I wanted to see you naked."
Lisa's breathing changed. He continued.
"Just like the others. Camilla…Regina…Bianca and more that you don't know about "
A pause. Then sharper:
"I wanted to see how far you went. How easily you fell."
Lisa shook her head, voice breaking.
"Stop… please stop saying that."
Canary gave a faint, empty smile.
"Stop?" he said. "But I did not even start."
He straightened.
"You thought you were special. You thought you were different from Camilla… from Regina…"
The names hung in the air like poison.
"But you were not."
Lisa's voice cracked.
" Huh ? "
Canary finally looked at her directly.
Cold. Empty.
"Why not?" he said. "They were better than you. Far better. They are beautiful, prettier and sexy , How could you think I could leave them for you ?"
Lisa felt her heart break into a thousand pieces
"You were just easier."
Lisa staggered slightly as if the words hit her physically. Her hands shook at her sides.
He watched her without any change in expression, like he noted a reaction he expected.
"I got what I wanted," he said quietly. "That was it."
He turned slightly away, already losing interest.
"We were done."
He sat back on his chair and started typing something on his computer
Lisa stood there, tears falling freely now, realizing he had not just ended what she thought was love…
he had erased it as if it never mattered at all.
After one glance at him in tears , she walked out of the office.
The corridor light hit her face, but she did not feel it. She kept walking, wiping her tears quickly as she passed staff members, trying to hide what was already obvious.
Her steps became faster.
More rushed.
Almost like she was escaping something she could not see.
Down the corridor ahead, Regina had just stepped out of an office.
She stopped the moment she saw Lisa.
Regina frowned slightly.
Lisa did not look normal.
Her face was pale, her eyes red and swollen, her breathing uneven. She walked past like she did not even recognize where she was.
Lisa kept walking, faster now, heading toward the washroom without looking back.
Regina stood still for a moment, confusion slowly turning into concern.
Something had happened in that office.
And whatever it was… it had broken Lisa completely.
The moment Lisa got inside the washroom, she pushed the door shut behind her with trembling hands. The bright lights above only made everything feel worse. Her breathing became uneven as she rushed into one of the toilet cubicles and locked it quickly.
The second she sat down on the closed toilet seat, the strength she had been forcing herself to keep disappeared.
Tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably.
She covered her mouth with both hands, trying to silence the sounds escaping her, but small broken sobs still filled the tiny space.
Images of everything Canary had just told her replayed in her mind.
His cold voice.
His distant eyes.
The way he never stopped her.
The way he sat there so composed while her whole world felt like it was falling apart.
"No…" she whispered through tears, shaking her head repeatedly. "No… this can't be happening…"
She wiped her face quickly, but more tears replaced the ones she removed.
"He didn't mean it…" she argued with herself between sobs. "He couldn't have meant all that… Canary wouldn't…"
But the more she tried to disagree, the more his words echoed in her head.
Her shoulders shook harder.
Outside the washroom, workers passed by normally, completely unaware that inside, Lisa felt like something inside her had shattered.
—
Back in his office, Canary remained seated for only a few seconds after Lisa walked out.
The silence she left behind suddenly felt unbearable.
His eyes stayed fixed on the door.
Then anger rushed through him.
He stood up abruptly.
"Damn it!" he cursed under his breath.
He kicked the side of his table hard.
The impact shook some files loose, sending papers sliding slightly across the polished surface.
He turned away immediately, running both hands through his hair.
The composure he had forced himself to maintain in front of Lisa disappeared.
His breathing became heavier.
A tear escaped before he could stop it.
Then another.
He lowered himself onto the edge of his desk, staring at the floor.
His voice came out quietly.
"Lisa…" he whispered painfully.
He closed his eyes tightly.
"I am so sorry."
For the first time since she had entered his office, there was no cold expression left on his face.
Only regret.
