Darren walked out of the underground elevator, striding arrogantly like a landlord, but his heart was in a different situation as his heartbeat was faster than normal. But just like how he wanted to appear, his maids, who were already blinded by their love for him, only saw how cool his walk was, and their eyes were overflowing with admiration.
Looking at the group of uninvited guests, Darren was not entirely sure about his chances, but he was willing to play a big game tonight to see if he could force them to back off. Before Darren could say anything, George, acting overly familiar, raised his hands to greet Darren and the girls in a jolly, almost best-friend manner. "Hi Darren, I have some people here who are interested in meeting you, so I brought them here."
Darren, hearing this, looked over and realised it was George. Darren was first filled with disgust, then he realised his suspicion had been confirmed George was working for these people. If he had been less vigilant and a bootlicker like in his first life, he would have been played to death by him. Looking at George like garbage, Darren asked, "Who are you, and why are you acting like we know each other? Also, why the fuck are you bringing people to see me, and how did you know I was here?"
Darren firstly wanted to distance himself from George to create the impression he was not as close with him, since he suspected these people believed George could get close to him. Secondly, he asked the second question to give the impression he was not welcoming to them, and lastly he wanted to let them know he was onto them, so that they would just drop the farce and get to the reason they were here.
As Darren finished talking, both the man and the beautiful woman looked in George's direction with a little surprise in the depth of their eyes, since they had been briefed that George was close to the target of their operation tonight, but it didn't show on their faces. The woman, also not wanting to waste time, stepped forward and said to Darren, "Mr. Darren Walker, I would like you to accompany me and my associates to an important location."
Darren, hearing this, said in complete bewilderment, "Why the fuck would I follow a group of strangers I don't even know to wherever they want?"
Hearing Darren's words, the woman didn't even look bothered. She continued, "Mr. Walker, I seem to have not made myself clear I apologise. We are not here to discuss this with you. The only reason we have not used force is because we acknowledge your capabilities and therefore want to afford you a modicum of respect. Do not take that as a sign of weakness."
Darren was completely baffled, since she could clearly see the guns in the hands of the maids, yet she was acting arrogant, which suggested they were not afraid of guns. Darren was a little taken aback, but his face didn't show it. Instead, he raised his middle finger in an internationally friendly gesture, which clearly pissed off the other side, as he could clearly see the anger on their faces, especially that of the impeccably dressed man.
The woman, seeing Darren was not willing to bind his own hands and offer himself up, raised her slender finger and signalled to the twelve men. She then turned around and went to stand in front of the last vehicle. As the twelve men saw that the woman was no longer in their way, they placed their hands inside their suits and pulled out small rods that looked clearly futuristic.
Darren, seeing the other side was ready to fight, signalled his maids to step back. Seeing how things were going, they didn't want to be a distraction to Darren, so they gave Darren and the men a wide berth.
As the field was already set, the men flicked both of their wrists, which activated the rods as laser whips slowly unfurled, making it look like the men were holding ribbons. Darren could not stop himself from commenting, "You know, I would not have been so tense if you had told me your way of inviting people involved a ribbon dance, and if your dancers were female I would have willingly followed."
Hearing this, the maids laughed as the men grew more infuriated. As Darren was about to continue, one of the twelve men swung the whip towards Darren's neck like a flash, which made Darren's quick reflexes kick in, moving his head backward to evade the first strike. As Darren was preparing to counter-attack, he felt the air pressure to his left compress as a second whip from a different assailant was aimed for his face. Darren also gracefully evaded that one by bending, only to be met by another whip aimed at his head. Darren could feel that any direction he could move to also had a whip aimed for it.
But Darren was not in any danger after all, he was only trying to act cool and dodge everything and hadn't even started using his abilities. Yawning, Darren shifted his focus as the ability known as Space Step was activated. Darren placed the line of his teleport behind one of the twelve men, disappearing from where he was evading the whip onslaught. Darren appeared right behind henchman one and, before he could react, Darren moved to break his neck. But before Darren could touch the man, he was bounced off, almost as if there was a force field around him that was why they were not afraid of being shot.
Darren steadied himself after the pushback from the force field. He was a little surprised but not discouraged, because although it had protected the man, Darren had not been expecting any obstacle between himself and the man and therefore had not put much strength into his approach and still he felt the shield almost deform and break, which showed how weak the force field was. Darren suspected all the men probably had the same.
As Darren was musing about his failure to instantly kill the men, the others were surprised by the fact that Darren had instantly disappeared and appeared behind number one, and nobody present could track his movement except the refined scoundrel, who was not certain but was sure he saw something as he muttered, "Teleportation."
