Chapter 57 - 57

I refined the scene to keep the discussion realistic, supportive, and focused on professional boundaries.

Another week passed.

The daily routine had become familiar.

Training sessions, practice castings, portfolio reviews, runway exercises, communication workshops, and fitness classes gradually became part of every trainee's schedule.

The instructors noticed steady improvement across the group.

At the end of the week, Daniel gathered all the New Faces in the training room.

"You've all completed the initial development phase," he said.

"The next step is gaining professional experience."

He explained that the agency had begun submitting each trainee's portfolio to clients looking for new faces.

"From today onward, your portfolios will be available for suitable castings and entry-level assignments."

The room filled with excitement.

Everyone knew this was the moment they had been working toward.

...

Later that afternoon, one of the booking executives approached Akshata.

"Akshata, may I speak with you for a moment?"

"Of course."

He smiled as he looked through his schedule.

"You don't need to attend tomorrow's training session."

She looked surprised.

"Is everything alright?"

"Everything is fine."

"A New York clothing brand has selected your portfolio and would like you to shoot a lookbook tomorrow."

For a moment, Akshata simply stared.

"My... first assignment?"

The executive nodded.

"Yes."

"It's a small professional job, but it's an excellent opportunity to gain experience."

"We'll send you the call time, wardrobe information, and location this evening."

"Please arrive on time and well rested."

Akshata smiled.

"Thank you."

As she left the agency, she could hardly wait to share the news.

...

Back at the apartment, she immediately called her father in India.

The phone rang only once before Nagaraju answered.

"Hello, Akshu."

"Appa!"

"I have good news."

He smiled as soon as he heard the excitement in her voice.

"Tell me."

"I've been selected for my first lookbook shoot. They told me I don't have to attend training tomorrow because I'll be working."

For a moment, there was silence.

Then Nagaraju said warmly,

"Congratulations, kanna. I'm very happy for you."

"Thank you, Appa."

His voice became calm and thoughtful.

"Now listen to me carefully."

"This is your first professional assignment."

"Observe everything around you."

"Watch how experienced people work."

"Be respectful."

"Ask questions if you're unsure."

"Learn as much as you can."

Akshata listened quietly.

He continued,

"There is something else I want you to remember."

"In this profession, photographers, stylists, makeup artists, hairstylists, and wardrobe assistants may sometimes need to adjust your clothing, hair, or pose as part of their work."

"That can involve both women and men, depending on their professional role."

"What matters is that everything is done respectfully, professionally, and only when necessary for the job."

He paused.

"If at any time you don't understand why something is being done, or if you feel uncomfortable, you have every right to ask questions, request an explanation, or say you need a moment."

"A professional team will respect that."

Akshata nodded, even though he couldn't see her.

"I understand, Appa."

Nagaraju smiled.

"Remember, professionalism goes both ways."

"You should respect the people you work with."

"And they should respect you."

"Never be afraid to communicate politely."

"Clear communication is part of being a professional."

"Amma will be with you, so don't worry."

"I won't, Appa."

After ending the call with Akshata, Nagaraju spoke with his wife.

"I know this industry is new for us," he said.

"We've grown up with different ideas, and some parts of this profession may feel unfamiliar."

His wife listened carefully.

He continued,

"Our responsibility isn't to interfere with the professionals while they're doing their work."

"It's to make sure Akshata feels safe, respected, and supported."

"If she has questions, help her ask them."

"If she needs reassurance, be there for her."

"And if anything ever seems inappropriate, we'll address it calmly and professionally."

His wife nodded.

"I understand."

"I'll stay close, but I'll also let her learn."

Nagaraju smiled.

"Exactly."

"This is her profession."

"She's growing—not just as a model, but as a young woman learning to work confidently and responsibly."

The next morning would be different.

For the first time since arriving in New York, Akshata would not be walking into a training session.

She would be walking onto a professional set as a working model.
