Chapter 50 - 50

"Eye colour may make someone memorable, but it doesn't create a career."

"What matters is whether the person in front of the camera can communicate naturally."

He pointed to another image.

"And she does."

The development manager added,

"She's coachable."

"She listens."

"She improves quickly."

"Those qualities are far more valuable over the long term."

The room unanimously agreed.

The senior director finally closed the folder.

"Daniel."

"Yes?"

"I'd like to meet the family one more time before they leave New York."

Daniel nodded.

"I'll arrange it."

The director smiled.

"No promises yet."

"We still have internal procedures."

"But I believe she's someone we should continue developing."

Daniel couldn't hide his satisfaction.

"I was hoping you'd say that."

...

Meanwhile, Akshata, Nagaraju, and Manu were waiting in the reception lounge.

Manu was quietly flipping through a magazine.

Nagaraju looked at his daughter.

"So..."

"How did today feel?"

Akshata smiled.

"Much easier than yesterday, Appa."

"I wasn't fighting the camera anymore."

Nagaraju laughed softly.

"I noticed."

"Yesterday you came out looking like you had written an exam."

"And today?"

"Today you came out smiling."

Akshata laughed.

"Maybe because I knew everyone there already."

Just then, Daniel appeared in the hallway.

He walked toward them with a pleasant smile.

"Mr. Nagaraju..."

The family stood.

"The review team has seen today's photographs."

Nagaraju remained calm.

"And?"

Daniel smiled.

"They would like to spend a little more time speaking with all of you."

"If you have a few minutes, they're ready to meet you now."

Akshata exchanged a quick glance with her father.

Nagaraju smiled reassuringly.

"Come on, Akshu."

"Let's hear what they have to say."

Daniel led the family back to the conference room.

This time, the atmosphere was more relaxed than before. The senior director stood as they entered and greeted each of them with a warm smile.

"Welcome back. Please, have a seat."

After everyone settled down, the director looked at Akshata.

"First of all, I'd like to thank you for coming back on such short notice."

Akshata smiled politely.

"It was no problem, sir."

"We appreciate your cooperation," he replied.

He then turned his attention to Nagaraju.

"Mr. Nagaraju, we've now reviewed both sets of photographs. The second session gave us a much clearer understanding of Akshata's natural look."

Nagaraju nodded.

"I'm glad."

The director continued.

"I'd like to share our observations with you."

He opened the evaluation file.

"Akshata has strong natural features, learns quickly, accepts direction well, and becomes more comfortable as she gains confidence. Those are qualities we value."

He smiled at Akshata.

"What impressed us the most wasn't that you were perfect."

"It was that you improved significantly in just one day."

Akshata lowered her head slightly.

"Thank you, sir."

The director leaned forward.

"However, we'd also like to understand your plans."

He looked at both father and daughter.

"If modeling becomes part of Akshata's future, how do you see balancing it with her education?"

Before Akshata could answer, Nagaraju gently looked at her.

"You answer."

She understood what he meant.

Taking a deep breath, she replied,

"My education comes first."

"I've dreamed about modeling for a long time, but I don't want to stop studying."

"If I have opportunities, I'd like to learn how to balance both."

The director smiled.

"That's a very mature answer."

One of the development managers added,

"We encourage young models to continue their education. A long-term career is built on good decisions, not rushed ones."

Nagaraju nodded in agreement.

"That's exactly how we feel as parents."

The senior director closed the file.

"Good."

He exchanged a glance with Daniel before continuing.

"We're pleased to tell you that we'd like to continue the evaluation process with Akshata."

A smile appeared on Manu's face before anyone else reacted.

The director chuckled.

"I think your younger brother understood before everyone else."

The room laughed.

He continued,

"This isn't a final offer of representation today. There are still internal reviews and administrative steps."

"But based on what we've seen, we believe Akshata is someone we'd like to keep developing."

Akshata looked at her father.

Nagaraju smiled proudly.

The director slid a folder across the table.

"This explains the next stages of our New Faces development process, what information we'll need from your family, and what to expect if both sides decide to move forward."

Nagaraju accepted the folder.

"Thank you."

The director stood and extended his hand.

"It has been a pleasure meeting your family."

Nagaraju shook his hand firmly.

"The pleasure is ours."

As the meeting came to an end, Daniel walked them toward the elevator.

When the doors opened, he turned to Akshata.

"You know," he said with a smile, "two days ago you were afraid of the camera."

She laughed.

"I remember."

"And today," Daniel continued, "you forgot the camera was even there."

Akshata smiled.

"I guess that's because everyone made me feel comfortable."

Daniel nodded.

"Never lose that honesty."

"The industry can teach you how to pose."

"It can teach you how to walk."

"But authenticity..."

He smiled.

"That's something you already have."

The elevator doors slowly closed.

As they descended, Manu could no longer hold back.

He threw his arms around his sister.

"Akka!"

"You did it!"

Akshata laughed, hugging him back.

"We've only taken the first step."

Nagaraju looked at both of his children and smiled.

"The first step," he said softly, "is often the one that changes everything."

The following morning, the family returned to the IMG office for the next stage of the evaluation.

This session was different.

Instead of cameras and lights, they were escorted into a quiet meeting room where members of the development team were waiting. On the table were notebooks, evaluation forms, and a folder containing Akshata's photographs.

Daniel introduced everyone before taking a seat.

The senior development manager smiled.

"Today's session is more of a conversation than an evaluation. We'd like to understand your goals, your family, and how you approach important decisions."

Nagaraju nodded.

"We appreciate that."

The manager turned to Akshata first.

"Tell us, Akshata. Why do you want to become a model?"

Akshata thought for a moment before answering.

"I've admired fashion and modeling for a long time. But for me, it's not only about photographs or recognition. I enjoy learning new skills, expressing myself, and challenging myself to become more confident."

The manager smiled.

"That's a thoughtful answer."

He made a few notes before turning to Nagaraju.

"Mr. Nagaraju, we'd like to hear your perspective as a parent."

"If Akshata is offered opportunities in the future, how do you plan to balance her education and her modeling career?"

Nagaraju smiled gently.

"To us, there is no competition between education and a career."

The room became quiet as everyone listened.

"We believe both are equally important."

He continued calmly.

"A career gives a person experience and purpose."

"But education gives a person the ability to think, to make wise decisions, and to manage that career responsibly."

He paused before continuing.

"Many people think education ends when school or college ends."

"I don't."
