Chapter 349 - Nihilego

Even the Ferry Office, despite sending their best operatives, hasn't been able to make significant progress there.

Yet, all of them were ultimately defeated by these "disasters."

This really showed just how dangerous the Dark Continent is.

Larry felt that the trip was worth it just to witness these things firsthand.

As he observed the disasters, he noticed a common thread: parasitism.

Many of these threats affected humans, either physically or mentally.

For instance, gold and silver ingots depended on parasitism of human corpses, Ebola seemed to feed on human emotions, and the Zobae disease spread directly to people.

Parasitic disasters like these must be a widespread danger on the Dark Continent.

Larry moved through the area like a curious tourist in a museum, taking in the overall picture.

After exploring for a while, he glanced over at the soldiers still standing guard, then suddenly disappeared.

Porygon Z had located the exact spot of the information room.

In a large chamber, Larry reappeared.

The room matched the style of other areas, everything made from an unknown silver-white material, with cabinets glowing faintly.

Three of the four walls, except the one with the door, were lined with countless standard cabinets.

Each cabinet had a number and a brief label indicating the type of information stored inside.

Storing this data on the internet wasn't safe, there are all kinds of mind abilities in the world, and it's impossible to guarantee that no one with hacking-related mental powers would break in.

Plus, there were beings from the network world, like Ik Shangpe, making online storage riskier.

So instead, this vital information was kept on paper in this "absolutely secure" archive room.

The sheer number of cabinets showed how much information V5 had gathered.

Not all data was here, only the most critical and sensitive information qualified to be stored in this vault, like secrets about the Dark Continent that absolutely couldn't leak out.

Larry accepted all the information eagerly, knowing it must be extremely valuable if V5 had collected it.

He asked Porygon Z to record everything so he could study it carefully later.

After receiving the order, Porygon Z's small body suddenly surged with streams of psychic aura that split into three groups and flew off in different directions.

As these streams wrapped around the cabinets, the information stored inside seemed to come alive.

Rows of green data flowed like countless rivers rushing toward the sea, all converging on Porygon Z.

The knowledge that V5 had gathered over the years was being uploaded into Porygon Z's mind at lightning speed.

While Porygon Z absorbed it all, Larry glanced around at the cabinets.

The labels covered a wide range of topics.

Some read "Ancient Labyrinth City," indicating that the data was from the information soldiers had brought back from the Dark Continent.

Others were labeled "Hunter Association," which made sense since V5 had been keeping a close eye on the Hunter Association for a long time.

What caught Larry off guard was spotting a cabinet with his own name on it.

In other words, this cabinet was filled with information about himself.

He was a bit surprised that the Ferry Office had set up a whole cabinet just for him.

Looking around, he noticed that most cabinets contained broad, large-scale information, like the one about the Hunter Association, which covered all kinds of details about the organization.

But this was the only cabinet dedicated entirely to one person.

Even Mr. Netero didn't have a cabinet all to himself; he was grouped under "Hunter Association Senior Management."

Larry was the only one granted this special recognition.

The reason was likely because of his strength and the attention V5 had to pay to him.

This piqued Larry's curiosity, he wondered what kind of information was stored in his cabinet.

Just then, a notification sounded: "Ding! The Pokemon has hatched!"

After spending some time "visiting" the data, a new Pokemon was bred.

Larry quickly focused his mind, curious about what kind of Pokemon would appear this time.

The breeding environment was unusual, not natural, but not entirely artificial either, and it was filled with various "disasters."

Could it be a ghost-type or a dark-type Pokemon?

Soon, Larry saw the new Pokemon emerge.

The new Pokemon had a body that closely resembled a bell-shaped jellyfish.

Its translucent upper umbrella was decorated with white hexagonal star patterns, and the wavy edge of the umbrella glowed bright blue.

The tentacles were gelatinous, forming a shape that almost looked human.

Several tentacles intertwined to create the impression of a cloak or long hair, while four shorter tentacles resembled shorter hair and arms.

Two longer tentacles extended down like legs.

The entire body seemed to be made of a glass-like material, somewhat like water glass, one of the world's seven wonders.

It gave off a dreamy, almost ethereal beauty, blurring the line between illusion and reality.

Larry's eyes widened with surprise, his mouth slightly parted, and he whispered softly, "I really didn't expect this."

"This time, the Pokemon will be you," King No announced.

"UB-01 Symbiont!"

"No, it's Nihilego," people argued.

The Pokemon that had appeared was Nihilego, the Ultimate Beast also known as "UB-01 Symbiont."

In the original series, the shining form of Nihilego is the one most closely associated with UB-01 Symbiont, but this was just a normal Nihilego.

Because Nihilego's appearance somewhat resembled UB-01 Symbiont's hairstyle, players had once joked that Nihilego was actually UB-01 Symbiont's true form.

Moreover, Nihilego is the Ultimate Beast most deeply connected to UB-01 Symbiont's family, both in the anime and in the games.

Larry had expected something unusual this time, but he never imagined he'd get an Ultra Beast, it was the first one he had ever obtained.

After thinking it over, Larry realized it made sense.

Ultra Beasts first appeared in Pokemon Sun and Moon, and officially, they're considered ordinary Pokemon in their own world but are extremely dangerous creatures to the Pokemon world.

This matched perfectly with the Dark Continent theme at Ferry Hall.

The Dark Continent is filled with what might be called "disasters" that are normal there but are deadly to the six known continents.

Plus, the special space where Ferry Hall exists fit perfectly with the Ultra Beast's background.

As for why this particular Ultra Beast was Nihilego, Larry had two guesses.

First, Nihilego is numbered 01 among

The many Ultra Beasts, so maybe that was why.

But that seemed a bit of a stretch.

Larry thought the second possibility was more likely, though he wasn't quite sure what that was yet.

Nihilego's relationship with the five disasters is quite fascinating.

As a parasitic Pokemon, Nihilego naturally possesses a strong parasitic nature, which perfectly aligns with the disaster traits previously analyzed.

It has the ability to invade a human body, release toxins, stimulate the nervous system, and take control of its host.

Given these abilities, Nihilego's existence makes a lot of sense.

Known as Nihilego, this Pokemon falls under the Beast Enhancement category and carries Rock and Poison attributes.

Its strength is ranked at SS-, placing it just below Marshadow and Genesect, making it one of the top three Pokemon in the SS range.

Nihilego's special trait, [Beast Boost], is particularly important and useful.

Originally, this ability increases the highest stat (except HP) after defeating an opponent, similar to the [Overconfidence] characteristic.
