Chapter 67 - The Outworld Warning

The three figures on their thrones exchanged hurried whispers, their cloaked forms shifting nervously. The tension in the room thickened like a storm gathering on the horizon.

Cain, the central figure, raised a hand, silencing the others. His voice sliced through the air with measured authority. "Another from the Outworld? Are you certain of this, Commander Grey?"

Before Grey could respond, Gale stepped forward, his voice sharp and brash. "Of course, he's sure! Why don't you just hand us the heavy artillery so we can track down this Miles bastard before—"

A sudden, sharp wind cut through the chamber, silencing Gale mid-sentence. His eyes widened as he felt a presence beside him—a shadow that had moved faster than he could perceive.

Cain stood there, his face still obscured beneath his hood, but his glowing, blood-red eyes burned through the darkness, radiating a chilling aura of menace.

Without a word, Cain raised a hand and placed it gently against Gale's chest. The touch seemed almost delicate, but Gale's body immediately convulsed. A surge of energy coursed through him, overwhelming and consuming. His knees buckled, his strength evaporating as if siphoned away.

Gale's vision blurred, the room spinning wildly as his body began to wither. His limbs grew frail, his once strong frame collapsing under its own weight. With a dull thud, he hit the cold floor, his form shriveled and lifeless.

Grey stared at Gale's motionless body, a shiver running down his spine. His instincts screamed at him to move, to intervene, but he forced himself to remain calm. After a tense moment, he exhaled deeply and lowered his gaze.

"My apologies for his incompetence," Grey said, his voice steady but strained.

Cain stepped back, his presence as imposing as ever. With a slow, deliberate motion, he ascended to his throne, his blood-red eyes never leaving Grey.

"Continue, Commander Grey," Cain commanded, his tone cold and final. "I will deal with that fool later."

The oppressive silence returned as Grey squared his shoulders and stepped forward, the weight of Cain's authority pressing down on him like a vice.

Nox's glowing pink eyes shimmered with tears as she watched the two massive birds descend gracefully from the sky, their wings stirring the mist around them. The creatures landed softly, their glowing pink eyes mirroring Nox's sorrow. She approached them with trembling hands, gently stroking their shimmering feathers.

A faint smile broke through her grief as she whispered, "Sebastian loved these birds. He used to take their blood, morph into them, and… we'd fly together." Her voice cracked, and tears began streaming down her face again. "He said it was the closest he ever felt to being free…" Her words faltered, lost to sobs that shook her shoulders.

Lilith quickly moved to Nox's side, wrapping an arm around her and holding her close. "It's okay," Lilith murmured, her voice soft and steady, though her own eyes glistened with unshed tears.

Crimson stood a few steps away, his gaze fixed on the ground. His fists clenched tightly, his nails biting into his palms. Sebastian… I swear, I'll protect her. I'll make up for my failures. I just hope… somehow, you can forgive me.

"Crimson! Crimson!" Lilith's sharp voice jolted him from his thoughts. He looked up to see her already seated on one of the birds, with Nox clutching her tightly from behind. "We're not waiting all day! Let's move!"

Crimson blinked, his resolve hardening. With a nod, he approached the second bird, its luminous eyes watching him intently. He climbed onto its back, gripping the reins with purpose.

"Let's find Miles," he declared, his voice filled with determination. "And make sure Sebastian's last wish comes true."

The great birds spread their wings, their massive forms lifting into the air. As they soared above the forest, the trio's resolve burned bright against the gathering storm of their mission.

Cain leaned back on his throne, his red eyes glowing faintly beneath the shadows of his hood. Grey stood rigid before him, his expression strained but composed. "As I've explained, Master Cain," Grey began, his voice steady, "the Outworlder is being aided by this man's companions." He gestured to Gale's motionless body on the floor, his voice tinged with frustration. "We reported late because of a confrontation with one of their number, but we neutralized him."

Cain's lips curled into a faint smile, a mixture of amusement and menace. He leaned back further into his throne, exhaling softly. Then, with an air of detached authority, he snapped his fingers.

In an instant, Gale's body jerked violently. His skin regained its vitality, his gaunt face filled out, and the scars that marred his features vanished. He gasped sharply as his senses flooded back, his head darting around in confusion.

"Where is Sebastian?" Gale demanded, his voice hoarse but urgent. His wide eyes swept across the chamber, finally landing on Grey. "And who the hell are these people, Grey?"

Cain stood, his towering presence dominating the room. His voice was calm but heavy with power. "You have done well, Gale. Your loyalty is acknowledged and appreciated." He glanced at Grey with a faint nod. "Grey will brief you further. For now, I will dispatch my disciples to accompany you. Do not fail me again."

The air grew thick as Cain continued. "The Masters and I must journey to the Imperial Castle to inform the High King of these developments."

Gale's mind churned as Cain spoke, unease prickling at the edges of his thoughts. These people… they possess a terrifying power. And Miles... Miles isn't the only one from the Outworld. Something more is happening here.

His eyes widened as a realization struck him. "Master Cain, Miles isn't—"

"Enough," Grey interrupted sharply, his piercing gaze locking onto Gale with a silent plea.

Cain's blood-red eyes flicked toward Gale, his presence suffocating. "Is there something else?" he asked, his tone dangerously calm.

Gale's body tensed under Cain's gaze, a cold sweat forming on his brow. That aura... I've felt it before. But where? His mind raced, yet the answer eluded him. He swallowed hard, shaking his head. "No, Master Cain. We'll prepare immediately."

Cain's gaze lingered for a moment longer, as if peeling back layers of Gale's thoughts. Then, with a dismissive nod, he turned and gestured to the other hooded figures. "Very well. I leave the rest to you, Commander Grey."

The three Masters glided out of the chamber, their cloaks trailing behind them like shadows. As the door closed with a heavy thud, the room plunged back into suffocating darkness.

Grey exhaled, his shoulders slumping slightly. He turned to Gale, his expression a mix of relief and exasperation. "Do you ever stop talking?" he hissed under his breath.

Gale ignored him, his mind still reeling. I don't know who Cain is… but I'm certain now. There's more to this than Grey's letting on. And I'll find out, one way or another.
