Hey, Jinx here. Just a quick note before I release the next chapter—hopefully within the next two hours.
First, I know I dragged out the whole "Jinx being out of control" situation longer than I originally intended, and I agree with the people who pointed that out. My first plan was for this entire section to last only three to five chapters at most, but then one commenter said that because Jinx had become a monster, there was no way he would be allowed to remain alive in Westeros.
I replied that they were forgetting what time period the story was currently taking place in, but I realized that I might not have made the timeline clear enough, so that is partially my fault.
The story is currently taking place three years before Robert's Rebellion. More specifically, when the royal party arrived at Winterfell, it was near the beginning of that year. That means the Mad King is still alive and sitting on the Iron Throne.
Aerys does not care about the North, the people Jinx killed, or whether Jinx has become a danger to everyone around him. He cares about himself, his power, and anything he believes he can use against his enemies. Once he learns what Jinx is capable of, he is not going to allow the Starks—or anyone else—to kill such a potentially valuable weapon. He will see Jinx as a useful pawn, especially after something I already have planned for the next few chapters.
My original idea was actually to have an enormous fight between Jinx and the Stark siblings, with Arthur Dayne and Barristan Selmy joining them. None of them would have walked away unharmed, and the fight would have caused serious consequences for everyone involved.
However, the more I thought about it, the less sense it made for my future plans. I also realized that Rhaegar would eventually be forced to step into the fight. Once Rhaegar joined Arthur, Barristan, Brandon, Eddard, Lyanna, and the others against Jinx, the situation would have become almost impossible to resolve without either killing important characters or damaging them so badly that several later storylines would no longer work.
Because of that, I changed the confrontation into what we have now.
I also know I am going to receive questions about how Jinx managed to accomplish so much at such a young age. Just remember that he possesses a book containing knowledge connected to nearly every path of magic found throughout the Harry Potter world. He also came from the twenty-first century and was reborn into a medieval society.
For someone who grew up with modern entertainment, technology, and access to endless information, medieval life would become incredibly boring very quickly. Boredom is a powerful motivator when you have an entire book of magic sitting in front of you and almost nothing stopping you from experimenting.
Jinx was also a massive geek in his previous life. He already understood many fictional concepts, magical theories, and possible applications that the people of this world would never think to attempt. He did not invent everything completely from nothing, but he brought ideas from other stories into this world and used the magical knowledge available to him to figure out how to recreate them.
That does not mean he instantly mastered everything. A lot of his progress came from years of experimenting, failing, adjusting his methods, accidentally hurting himself, and trying again. The difference is that Jinx knew certain things should theoretically be possible, while everyone else was still limited by what their world believed was possible.
I also want to warn everyone now that, although I will still be following the general Game of Thrones timeline, I am going to introduce characters, creatures, powers, and concepts from other franchises. I do not want the story to become nothing but enormous time skips until Robert's Rebellion begins, so Jinx will be going on several adventures before the main canon events start.
Some very familiar characters are going to appear, although I will be changing and combining a lot of things so they fit naturally into this world.
I will spoil one thing now: my goats, Bobby B Baratheon and Eddard "Ned" Stark, are going to go absolutely crazy.
Jinx will end up dragging both of them into several adventures, whether they want to go or not. One of those adventures will become a major reason Robert is eventually capable of taking the Iron Throne. Robert will still be the loud, reckless, battle-loving free spirit everyone knows, but he will also become slightly wiser and more experienced because of everything Jinx puts him through.
And somehow, all of it will involve a lion who rose from the dead.
