Chapter 5 - 4.Phone call

Note: This scene takes place in Samuel's version before he meets Angel at the mall.

Monday 8:00AM

Samuel woke with a sharp breath. The dream he just had lingered. The green eyed girl was there again as always. And that was all he could think about.

A girl standing inside a clock tower.Golden curls.Green eyes.And a strange feeling he couldn't explain.

Samuel sat up slowly, running a hand through his messy golden hair. The morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of his family's Manhattan penthouse.

Below, New York buzzed with life.

Above, Samuel couldn't stop thinking about the girl from his dream.

His gaze drifted toward the golden bracelet wrapped around his wrist.

A small fairy charm hung from it.The bracelet had belonged to his grandmother.

Years ago, before she died, she had placed it around his wrist herself and told him never to take it off.

He had been seven at the time.Since then, he had worn it every single day.

His parents had offered to replace it countless times whenever it became worn.

Samuel always refused.

It was one of the few things he still had left of her.For a brief moment, the fairy charm felt strangely warm against his skin.

Samuel frowned.

The warmth disappeared almost immediately. Just like it always did.

His phone suddenly vibrated across the bedside table.

White Calling...

Samuel accepted the call.

The screen lit up almost immediately, revealing a beautiful girl with long white hair and bright blue eyes.

"There you are," White said.

Samuel smirked.

"Good morning."

"It's one in the afternoon."

"Not here."

White brow raised.

"Where are you?. You missed school"

"My mother had business here in New York."

White sighed dramatically.

"Meanwhile, I had to survive school without you."

Samuel raised an eyebrow.

"Was it that bad?"

"Jake nearly got detention."

Samuel laughed.

"What did he do this time?"

"What doesn't he do?" White shot back.

"He spent half of chemistry trying to convince the teacher that explosions are educational."

"They are educational."

White stared.

"You're encouraging him."

"I absolutely am."

White groaned.

Before she could continue, another face suddenly appeared beside her.

A blonde girl smiled brightly at the screen.

"Samuel!"

"Lilly."

Lilly grinned.

"When are you coming back?"

"Tomorrow."

"Good."

White immediately nudged her shoulder.

Lilly ignored her.

"School was boring today."

"That's because you spent half of it gossiping."

"I was gathering information."

"You were gossiping."

"Same thing."

Samuel laughed softly.

Lilly pointed at the screen.

"You know who else was boring today?"

"Who?"

"Jasper."

White nodded immediately.

"Very boring."

Samuel raised an eyebrow.

"Jasper is always boring."

"Exactly."

"That's his thing."

The three of them laughed.

"What about Fredrick?" Samuel asked.

White smiled.

"He spent lunch pretending he wasn't listening to everyone's conversations."

"He was listening."

"He absolutely was."

Lilly nodded.

"Every single one."

Samuel shook his head.Nothing ever changed. The same friends. The same conversations.

For a moment, he found himself wishing he were back in London already.

White suddenly narrowed her eyes.

"You look tired."

Samuel looked away from the screen.

"Didn't sleep well."

"Late night?"

"Something like that."

He wasn't about to explain the dreams.

He never talked about them.

Not to White.

Not to Lilly.

Not to anyone.

Some things were easier kept to himself.

Lilly tilted her head.

"You've been acting weird lately."

"I've been gone for one day."

"You were acting weird before you left."

White immediately pointed at Lilly.

"See? I'm not the only one who noticed."

Samuel sighed.

"You two spend too much time analyzing people."

"We learned from the best."

"I don't analyze people."

White and Lilly exchanged looks.

Then burst out laughing.

Samuel rolled his eyes.

A knock sounded at his bedroom door.

"Samuel?"

His mother's voice.

"I have to go."

White's smile faltered slightly.

"Oh."

Then she quickly recovered.

"Fine. But don't disappear again."

"I'll try."

Lilly waved enthusiastically.

"See you tomorrow!"

"See you."

The call ended.Silence returned to the room.

Samuel placed his phone aside and walked toward the large window overlooking Manhattan.

The city stretched endlessly beneath him.

Yet his thoughts drifted elsewhere.

To a clock tower.

To green eyes.

To a girl whose name he didn't know.

And for some reason...

He couldn't shake the feeling that he was getting closer to her.
