Chapter 10 - The Price of Bearing the Blackharth Name

A deathly, suffocating silence settled over the reception hall of the Blackharth mansion. Aria's final words still lingered in the frigid air, refusing to disappear or be swept away by the cold winter draft outside.

"I fully expect to earn that belief through my actions over time," her steady voice echoed in their minds, leaving an undeniable impact. The declaration felt like a heavy gauntlet thrown at the feet of the five most powerful people in the room.

No one dared to speak or break the fragile atmosphere following her bold statement. Even the dozens of servants standing along the perimeter of the hall seemed afraid to breathe too loudly.

They were caught in the invisible clash between the lone woman in the center of the hall and the five elders seated before her. The elderly matriarch of the council slowly lifted her delicate porcelain teacup. This time, however, she did not raise it to her lips.
