Chapter 143 - Destiny Road

Unsurprisingly, the first one that had something to say about the woman's challenging words was Yuki. Though, she did not use words to express those feelings, but rather used her preferred approach and shot swords at the clearly woman clearly inferior to herself. She was surprised however to find them stop in the air, despite them usually functioning as unstoppable objects. Their appearance was still not without reaction however, as Bambini shrunk back beneath the table and seemingly planned to remain there until this was resolved.

"Hm? What was that for?"

"Don't mind that. I just wanted to see if you would die if I attacked you like that.", Yuki said with a straight face and normal voice.

"…Oh, okay! Well then, back to you, little wannabe God."

"…Excuse me?"

"Oh, common, you didn't think I'd just forget about that, did you? What makes you a God? Go on, tell me."

"I suppose the fastest way to prove that would be to establish a simplified hierarchy… Assuming there are humans and similar life forms, then come angels and then God, being above angels natural means you resemble something closer to a God yourself."

"And who says you are above angels?"

"I do~"

Yuki suddenly appeared behind the woman wearing an innocent, almost casual smile. With her divine sword in hand, a cut from the future hit the womans cheek, as she dodged the attack that otherwise would have decapitated her on the spot.

"Ooh, flexible! That's a good quality to have. But too slow… Then again, it is nearly instantaneous, so what to expect for the first time seeing it, right? Not that I'd let excuses slide…"

"This conversation implied you were an angel, am I right in assuming that to be the truth?"

"Through and through… And you think you are pretty mysterious, don't you?"

Yuki kicked against the side of the womans head, and despite her blocking it both physically and with a barrier, having her thrown off the table into a pitch black wall around five meters away.

"But what to expect from some dumb bimbo lacking the intelligence and decency to introduce herself on arrival."

"…I see… You two are very alike indeed… No wonder you are so codependent and overprotective of the other…"

"Hm? How would you know?"

"It's so obvious… It's like whenever you fall in my line of sight, that fact is shoved in my face and impossible for me to ignore."

"Okay, fuck you."

Yuki shot a beam of light out from her fingertip, however it bounced right off a barrier surrounding the woman, being redirected towards Yamato, who was immediately shielded by one of Yuki's wings absorbing the light. Though Yamato did not flinch, he was aware that if that attack had landed, it could have killed him.

"Mhm~… Love is it, yes? Let's see just how deep that one goes."

With a clap of her hands, her long braid began pointing straight up, almost reaching the cealing which was at least three and a half meters high. Suddenly, the gravity in the entire room flipped and the ceiling opened into a much bigger space, retracting like a gate, but in an unnatural, or rather supernatural way. As everyone in the room began falling up, Bambini remained under the table who was seemingly unaffected by the switch, and thus served as his ground now. The space they were falling through was resembling that of an endless sky, with no ground or objects besides the shrinking black box that was the room in the distance. However, just as suddenly as everything else happening right now, ground appeared right in front of Yamato, his collision being unavoidable through any kind of flight magic due to his momentum and his proximity to the ground. If not for Yuki, who flew even faster into the ground and prepared to catch him, positioning herself so he would fall onto her softest parts. Only for her to realize that the ground was completely soft and elastic. But the force with which the two collided made her still happy that she went in between. Meanwhile Bronelli just landed on the ground thinking this was his end, only for him to bounce once or twice and them peacefully lay there.

"Magnificent! Yes, what a sacrifice and reaction time too! Haha, quick Bambini take notes for your performances. This kind of emotion cannot be faked or imitated just like that! Hm? Oh, right. You're still all the way up there, silly me."

As she looked up, it would have been the perfect chance to strike. However Yuki was too busy drooling over Yamato on the comfortable asphalt ground. While she was blushing and giggling to herself, as well as actively preventing Yamato from getting off of her, their surroundings seemed to shift once again. But before anything could take form, Yuki's sword, which she had intentionally let go off earlier came down onto the womans head with its flat side, causing everything to stop changing in a weird, shard filled space of broken sky while she held onto her head in annoyance in response to what should be a lethal injury.

"Ouuuch!! Can't you hold onto your weapons, you little—! My head…"

"Dumb bitch, I have my things just where I want them…"

Possessive holding onto Yamato's head, Yuki gave the woman a challenge smirk from the ground. Her sword falling right back into her extended hand.

"Is that so… Maybe I was going about this all wrong then. How about a different approach~? Do the two of you like games, perhaps?"

"Depends on the game, duh."

"Well, I will let you pick then! That way, you have no way of not licking it, yes?"

"Hmm… Boo, do we want to play games with this weird woman?"

"I'd generally rather win a game than a fight to the death…"

"Oki doki. Mwah. Woman, we accept your challenge!"

After giving Yamato a big smooch, she finally let go of him, after which he helped her up and faced the woman again. But, even though no one besides Yuki noticed, he gave her a quick kiss back before doing so.

"You say we get to choose? And it can be any game?"

"Yes, of course."

"And what are the stakes?"

"I will only tell you after you won what you get as prize, though I doubt that will happen… I also grant you freedom to choose what would happen in case of my loss."

"Boo, I've got a Déjà vu!"

"Yeah, me too… I guess based on that, I'd pick chess."

The woman flew down in front of him, their faces much too close for Yuki's taste.

"How come you choose chess? For a human, I'd think a less complex and more luck based game would be the wiser choice."

"Well, if I'd have to pick a single game in which I find myself most confident in playing, I'd pick chess. However, I think I'd beat you in any game anyway."

"Oho! Well, I won't just believe that…"

Her long braid slowly crept towards Yamato, slithering along his arm and over his neck, to caress his cheek. Yuki, surprisingly just watched at that, smiling perfectly calm and comfortable as she stood behind him looking over his shoulder at her. After getting no reaction from Yuki, the woman retracted her hair all at once. Yuki would remember this.

"But unfortunately… I hate chess! It's way too boooring. No way I'm playing that. So how about this! Since you are so cocky, we play a game I'm sure you don't even know the rules of yet!"

"I… Would love that, actually."

"Great, then it's settled!"

"I'm ready when you are."

"The game is best played with multiple people, so have your friend come along as well!"

She pointed at Bronelli, who was still lying there in shock after his fall. But after being addressed, he partially regained his composure.

"R-right… I will try my best as well, of course."

"Awesome! Now then, here are the rules!"

A long paragraph appeared in the air, only remaining there for 5 seconds before disappearing again.

"And, let's play!"

"Preposterous! Have us actually read the rules, you cheating woman!"

"It's alright, Bronelli. I can explain it to you, if you wish. Would not be much use to having you participate, if you don't know them after all."

Yamato began retelling the rules line by line.

On the board there are 30 spaces to the goal, first to reach it wins.

You have to roll a dice twice, and the first number you throw must be divided by the second number. The result is the amount of steps you can do during your turn.

Each player from the start has a single life, and 30 points to spent in the item shop, which includes the following items:

Two Dice Rolls (mandatory), costing 1 point.

Protection, costing 5 points.

Murder Weapon, costing 15 points.

Move To The Goal Card, costing 50 points.

Each time you land on a space new space no player has landed on before, you draw a card from the deck. The effects of the card can range to moving steps back or forward, moving on the same space as another player, gaining up to five points, losing up to ten points, gaining an extra life, and moving back to the start. Additionally, there can be special cards that have completely different effects that can change state of the game. Protection can prevent the loss of a life through players. It only lasts 2 rounds upon activation but does not need to be announced to the enemy player. An enemy player can kill another player with the murder weapon as long as they are not protected, by spending another additional 15 points after the purchase for usage, causing one life of damage. Should this result in the target having 0 lifes left, then the target loses and can no longer play. Additionally, all points of the target will be transferred to the attacker. After use, you can choose whether you want to keep a murder weapon or discard it after use. When kept, reuse is allowed, however if you reach a space with another player while carrying a used weapon and do not kill the player functioning as "witness", you are caught and lose the weapon as well as half of your total points. The target must be on the same space as the attacker. If the attacker targets a player with a protection activated, they still pay the points for weapon usage but deal no damage to the target. Landing on the goal space requires the exact amount of steps, and cannot be overshot. The game ends immediately once one player reaches the goal, and all other players lose.

"Did you understand the rules now?"

"Y-yes… Thank you. Remarkable that you were able to read and memorize all that in merely that short a time… I am ready now."

"So am I."

"Me too~!"

With another clap of her hands, the woman changed the space again into a massive board, while the four stood on a transparent platform in the air looking down at the board.

"I welcome you all, to the Destiny Road. My own creation."

Though Yuki actually liked the game, she hated that it was not her own. It felt like something she would come up with, making it all the more repulsive to her.
