Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 4: THE RIVARY

Walking through the market circle was Jack who worn a tight-fitting shirt and black casual shorts. He had a big frown on his face. Not due to the load of the basket held in his hand but because he wasn't at his training grounds. The market was already roaring by the time they got there.

Stalls packed the stone street wall to wall. Smoke from roasting meat mixed with the sharp smell of herbs and stink of fish that had been siting too long. kids darted between legs of an already annoyed Jack. Minny skipped beside him, eyes bright, turning her head at every stall. she was twenty and this was still magic to her, seeing her best fruits out on the market made her smiled to the core. a man juggling knifes three stalls down and she stopped to watch.

"Hey, Minny can you walk any much faster, I need to get to training." Jack said with a Scown. shifting the basket on his hip. it was already half full and heavy with roots and dried leaves for Neney's potion. He was not even felling the weight. He was feeling the wasted time.

Just then a blur wissed pass the side of Jack,a kid shot past them, maybe Jack's age, bare feet slapping dust. Behind him was a gang of three boys who looked to be the same age as Jack weaving past customers with faces of annoyance.

Jack didn't have time to react before something hissed past his ear. A dagger. It missed Jack by inches and slammed into the kid's back, pinning his tunic straight to the shop owner's table. The kid went down hard, fabric stretched tight, arms flailing. He wasn't stabbed, but he wasn't going anywhere.

"Haha!, got him." A voiced called out.

Just then walked slowly towards the young boy with study steps. But just a they were a few meters away from the boy that's when they saw a boy who looked to be their age stood between the path leading to their target.

"Huh, haha look who stood in for the weakling, Jack the weakest!" The boy who looked to be the leader of the gang said out loud.

" I don't care what you say about me, just let the boy go his way." Jack replied as if never offended by his comment.

"Move, Jack," the lead boy spat. "He's ours."

Minny's hand found Jack's sleeve. The shop owner was already shouting for the watch. The gang hesitated.

'Rough talk only works when someone's watching.' Jack thought.

Jack walked towards the boy and yanked the dagger free from his dress and threw it back at the gang with quite the precise speed but with no malicious intent.

The leader who looked to be the same age or maybe older than Jack himself sneered and cinched the dagger mid-air and just as they had come they melted into the crowd.

Jack crouched, cut the last threads with a different dagger from the shop owner, and helped the kid up.

"Thank you" the boy muttered. Those guy are scumbags, they always bully me to do their dirty works... this time I got fed up and decided to retaliate and they all swarmed up on me.

"Huh, dirty works you say, what kind of work would that son of a wealthy general wants you to be doing for him." Jack asked a little curious.

"Errr that's kind of a long story and if. You want to really know come tto the heaven near the meved Street I go there everyday" Just then the guy run in the opposite direction with the same incredible speed he displayed before.

"Oh and the name is Gustav! and thanks once again". He said disappearing into the crowd.

"You're welcome," Jack muttered with a smile.
