The Infernal Footsoldier hit the Blueblood Guard with its shield low and both daggers up.
The paid pawn held, because Aldric had bought that much.
The white shield caught the first dagger and shoved it aside hard enough to turn the black pawn's shoulder. The spear came over the rim, aiming for the space below the throat. Ty felt the motion through the table, not as pain, but as a pull under his palm.
The pawn carried no coin for him to steer.
It would follow its own nature and nothing smarter.
"Brace through it and make him pay for rushing position," Aldric called.
The Blueblood Guard lowered its weight behind the shield. Blue light crawled over the metal, and the square under both pawns cooled until the heat from Ty's piece started fighting the floor too.
Ty let Aldric talk and watched the black pawn's feet.
