Aang thought he had already died. Adrift beneath a moonlit sea, he lets himself sink further into the depths of darkness. His world is gone, his friends are dead, and the burden of being the Avatar has become heavier than survival itself. Then someone dives after him. Hiccup Haddock only meant to save a stranger from drowning. Instead, he finds himself dragged into the depths with a boy who should not exist in his world, marked by strange tattoos and an impossible command over the world. When Aang’s instincts save them both, the two wash ashore on Berk — a land of Vikings, dragons, and wars that are not his own. But Aang is not the hero he used to be. Haunted by his memories, he wants nothing from this new world except silence. Yet Berk is a place where peace of mind is scarce. And with a new friend that is somehow determined to end up in the stomach of dragons, Aang must figure out if life is truly bleak or maybe he can have a purpose to live for once again.
