Chapter 65: Funeral (III).
Narrator's POV
Nuo Lin's funeral… was there for all to see.
"If anyone wishes to offer their final words," he said softly, "come forward."
Francisca remained still for several moments. Her hands trembled slightly as she stared at Nuo Lin's peaceful face.
"..."
Taking a slow breath, she stepped before the funeral pyre to take her speech.
"I..." For the first time since yesterday, her voice cracked, looking at the piece she was writen in hand. "I still can't believe you're gone, Nuo Lin jiejie."
A faint, bittersweet smile crossed her lips.
"You always scolded me for working too hard. Francisca, you'll collapse one day if you don't learn to rest. You said that almost every week that it made me think of you as my annoying elder sister."
A few villagers quietly chuckled through their tears.
