What emerged first from the enormous wormhole above New York was only the vanguard, but even that was enough to plunge the entire city into chaos.
Wave after wave of Chitauri flying vehicles surged out of the portal like a swarm of metallic locusts. Each sleek aircraft carried two Chitauri soldiers clad in dark armor, their glowing weapons already aimed toward the city below.
The invasion began instantly.
There was no warning.
No negotiation.
No mercy.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Countless energy blasts rained down from the sky.
The peaceful streets of New York were transformed into a battlefield within minutes. Buildings exploded into flames. Cars were overturned by shockwaves. Glass shattered everywhere, scattering across roads like glittering shards of death.
Screams echoed through the city.
People ran in every direction.
Parents grabbed their children and fled.
Workers abandoned offices.
Drivers left their vehicles in the middle of the road.
Nobody knew what was happening.
They only knew one thing.
The sky was falling.
Flames roared.
Smoke rose.
Explosions continued without pause.
Bang! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Groups of Chitauri aircraft poured endlessly from the wormhole and spread across New York like a plague. Some headed toward residential districts while others attacked commercial areas. Their objective was simple—spread destruction and terror.
At the moment, there was almost no resistance.
After all, who could possibly prepare for an alien army descending directly from the sky?
The Chitauri soldiers fired wildly as they flew. Blue energy blasts struck buildings and streets, turning entire sections of the city into burning ruins.
Suddenly, a black fighter aircraft streaked through the smoke-filled sky.
A S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet.
Its engines roared as it dived toward a formation of Chitauri aircraft.
The pilot immediately opened fire.
Missiles launched.
Machine guns thundered.
Several Chitauri vehicles exploded in midair.
For a brief moment, it seemed like humanity had begun fighting back.
Unfortunately, there were simply too many enemies.
The Quinjet soon attracted the attention of dozens of Chitauri aircraft.
Energy blasts flooded toward it from every direction.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The fighter shook violently.
Black smoke poured from one engine.
The aircraft spun uncontrollably.
Inside, alarms screamed.
Finally, unable to withstand the damage any longer, the Quinjet crashed toward the streets below.
A massive explosion followed.
Moments later, a figure climbed from the wreckage.
Steve Rogers.
Captain America.
His uniform was scorched.
His shield was covered in soot.
Yet his eyes remained determined.
Looking up at the countless Chitauri swarming across the sky, Steve clenched his fist.
"Hateful."
"There are too many enemies."
At that moment, a familiar voice sounded through his communicator.
"Captain, don't worry."
"I've arrived."
Steve immediately smiled.
"Iron Man."
A red-and-gold figure shot across the sky like a missile.
Tony Stark had entered the battlefield.
Repulsor blasts fired continuously from his palms.
Miniature missiles launched from hidden compartments on his armor.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions erupted throughout the air.
Several Chitauri aircraft were instantly destroyed.
Burning wreckage fell toward the streets below.
Tony flew straight through enemy formations, leaving trails of fire behind him.
"Come on!"
"Is this all you've got?"
His confident voice echoed through the communication channel.
Unfortunately, his aggressive attack instantly turned him into the primary target.
Hundreds of Chitauri soldiers began pursuing him.
The sky above New York became a deadly chase.
Meanwhile—
Thunder suddenly exploded across the heavens.
Boom!
Dark clouds gathered around the portal.
Brilliant lightning flashed repeatedly.
The God of Thunder had arrived.
Thor descended from the sky with Mjolnir in hand.
Crackling lightning surrounded his body.
He landed atop Stark Tower and stared furiously at Loki.
"Loki!"
"Stop this madness!"
"Or I'll destroy that machine myself!"
Loki stood beside Selvig and laughed loudly.
"Brother."
"Do you still not understand?"
He spread his arms proudly.
"Look around."
"This army belongs to me!"
Thor's expression darkened.
Without another word, he raised Mjolnir.
Thunder gathered.
Lightning exploded.
A massive bolt of divine power crashed toward the machine.
Boom!
The lightning struck the blue energy barrier protecting the device.
For a brief moment, the entire rooftop became engulfed in light.
Then something unexpected happened.
The barrier reflected the attack.
The thunderbolt rebounded violently.
A devastating shockwave erupted outward.
Thor, Loki, and Selvig were all blasted away.
"Agh!"
All three were thrown from the rooftop.
Thor reacted first.
He stopped his fall in midair and immediately flew after Selvig.
Catching the scientist before he hit the ground, Thor safely landed nearby.
Not far away, Steve quickly joined him.
The battle continued.
Far above the city, on top of Hammer Industries, Jack stood calmly with Alice and Ada.
From their position, they could see almost the entire battlefield.
Explosions lit up the skyline.
Smoke covered the horizon.
The city was burning.
Alice glanced toward Jack.
"You still aren't moving?"
She smiled slightly.
"Is this scene not shocking enough for you?"
Jack folded his arms.
"This is only the vanguard."
"There is nothing worth doing yet."
"Let Thor and Tony handle it for now."
His eyes remained fixed on the battlefield.
"If you're bored, feel free to join the fun."
Alice smiled.
"Now that's an invitation I like."
Her eyes sparkled.
Watching the battle below made her blood boil.
"Then let's go."
Ada grinned.
"Finally."
The wind suddenly exploded around her.
Whoosh!
Her body shot into the sky like a missile.
Alice laughed.
"I refuse to fall behind."
Invisible telekinetic energy surrounded her.
She rose from the rooftop and flew into the air.
Several Chitauri aircraft immediately noticed Ada.
Energy blasts rained toward her.
Ada snorted.
"Only this much?"
She thrust both hands forward.
Several massive fireballs formed instantly.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The fireballs struck the enemy formation.
Seven or eight Chitauri aircraft exploded immediately.
The remaining ones scattered in panic.
Energy blasts shot toward Ada from every direction.
Ada waved her hand.
Six enormous stone walls rose into existence.
The attacks smashed against them.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Stone fragments scattered everywhere.
Then Ada raised both arms.
A gigantic wind blade nearly ten meters long formed before her.
"Disappear."
The blade swept forward.
Three Chitauri aircraft were sliced apart instantly.
In the distance, Alice watched with interest.
"She really likes showing off."
Her eyes narrowed.
"Then I shouldn't lose either."
She closed her eyes.
The world around her changed.
Every movement.
Every vibration.
Every enemy.
Everything entered the range of her telekinetic perception.
Twenty Chitauri aircraft opened fire simultaneously.
Energy beams flooded toward her.
Alice suddenly opened her eyes.
A powerful pulse wave exploded outward.
Boom!
The air itself trembled.
The invisible force spread in every direction.
Within seconds—
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
All twenty enemy aircraft exploded.
A perfect ring of destruction appeared around Alice.
At the center stood Alice herself.
Completely unharmed.
Then—
A deafening roar echoed from the portal.
"ROOOAAARRRR!"
Everyone instinctively looked upward.
Something enormous was emerging.
A gigantic mechanical head pushed through the wormhole.
Then came its body.
And more body.
And even more body.
The creature seemed endless.
Its metallic form resembled a colossal armored serpent stretching across the sky.
This was not a living creature.
It was a weapon.
A Chitauri Leviathan.
A dragon-type battleship.
Its massive body filled the portal itself.
The sight alone made countless people despair.
"ROOOAAARRRR!"
The Leviathan descended.
Its enormous body twisted through the city.
A single movement of its tail smashed directly into a skyscraper.
Crash!
The building collapsed instantly.
Tons of concrete and steel rained onto the streets below.
More Chitauri soldiers launched from openings along the Leviathan's body.
They landed on roads.
Inside buildings.
Across rooftops.
Energy weapons fired in every direction.
The destruction intensified.
The Leviathan continued moving through the city.
Nothing could stop it.
Buildings crumbled.
Roads shattered.
Entire city blocks were reduced to ruins.
As the giant mechanical monster roared through Manhattan, even the battlefield itself seemed to tremble beneath its shadow.
And this—
Was only the beginning of the Chitauri invasion.
