Chapter 32 - Chapter 31

The Next Morning – Vale Mansion

The Vale mansion looked the same as always that morning.

Perfect lawns. Silent corridors. Controlled elegance in every corner.

But Selina noticed the change the moment she stepped out of her room.

It wasn't visible at first.

It was felt.

The air inside the house carried a strange stillness, as if everything had been slightly adjusted overnight to fit a rule no one had explained to her.

Servants moved differently.

Slower.

More careful.

And most importantly—quiet in a way that felt intentional.

Conversations stopped the moment she passed.

Not out of respect.

Out of caution.

Selina didn't react outwardly, but she registered everything.

Something had changed overnight.

And she had not been informed.

That was never a good sign in the Vale household.

Study Hall – Morning Meeting

When Selina entered the study hall, the atmosphere confirmed her suspicion immediately.

The room was already occupied.

Damian Vale stood near the head of the table, holding a file.

Rowan sat with his arms crossed, unusually serious.

Livia was seated quietly.

Elara stood near the window, facing outward—but not looking at anything in particular.

All of them turned toward Selina at once.

That timing was too precise.

This wasn't a casual family meeting.

This was arranged.

Selina stepped inside calmly.

"What's going on?" she asked.

Damian didn't answer immediately.

He placed the file down on the table instead.

"Close the door," he said.

Selina did.

The soft click of the lock made the room feel smaller.

Contained.

Controlled.

Damian finally spoke.

"There have been unexpected changes in your submitted analysis reports."

Selina's expression didn't shift.

But her attention sharpened.

"Changes?" she repeated.

Rowan leaned forward slightly.

"Not corrections," he clarified. "Replacements."

Selina turned toward him.

"Explain."

Elara answered this time, her voice softer than usual.

"Your original projections are being overwritten after submission."

Silence followed.

Selina processed that slowly.

That was not a small issue.

That meant interference after approval.

Outside-system modification.

She spoke carefully.

"That requires internal access or system breach."

Damian nodded once.

"That is what we are investigating."

Selina's gaze dropped briefly to the file.

"So something is altering my work after it leaves Vale control."

No one disagreed.

That meant she was correct.

She exhaled slowly.

Then asked the question forming in her mind.

"Is Blackwood involved?"

The room shifted slightly at that name.

Damian didn't answer immediately.

That hesitation was enough.

"Yes," he said finally.

One word.

Enough to confirm everything.

The Pattern Becomes Clearer

Rowan spoke quietly.

"Every time your analysis is altered, Blackwood responds."

Selina looked at him.

"Responds how fast?"

"Within hours," Rowan said.

Selina frowned slightly.

"That's not normal corporate reaction speed."

Elara spoke carefully.

"It's not reaction," she said. "It's anticipation."

Silence.

That word mattered more than the rest.

Selina slowly leaned back slightly.

Anticipation meant prediction.

Prediction meant awareness of her decisions before she finalized them.

That wasn't standard data flow.

That was something else.

Something more structured.

She closed the file in front of her.

"So my work is being tracked and predicted," she said calmly.

No one corrected her.

Damian's voice lowered slightly.

"This is why your access is being restricted."

Selina looked up at him.

"For control?"

"For stability," he replied.

That answer felt incomplete.

But she didn't push further.

Not yet.

Instead, she nodded once.

"I understand."

She turned toward the door.

But before she could leave—

Elara spoke softly.

"Selina."

She paused.

Didn't turn immediately.

Elara's voice was quieter now.

"Be careful."

Selina finally turned slightly.

"Of what?"

Elara hesitated for a moment.

Then said—

"Blackwood isn't reacting to your work like a company would."

A pause.

Her eyes sharpened slightly.

"It's reacting like it already knows you."

Silence.

Selina didn't respond.

She simply left the room.

Corridor – After the Meeting

The corridor outside felt longer than usual.

Not physically.

Mentally.

Selina walked slowly, her thoughts structured but heavier than before.

Blackwood was not just reviewing her work.

They were anticipating it.

That meant her decisions were already being calculated somewhere outside her control.

And someone was adjusting outcomes based on her existence.

Not after actions.

Before them.

That was the part that didn't sit right.

She stopped near a window.

Outside, the gardens were unchanged.

But the estate no longer felt neutral.

It felt… observed.

A servant passed behind her quickly and bowed.

"Miss Selina."

She nodded slightly.

But noticed something important.

His hands were tense.

Too tense.

Like someone had instructed him to behave carefully around her.

Selina turned back toward the window.

One clear thought formed now.

She was no longer simply being watched.

She was being predicted.

And somewhere beyond the Vale mansion—

someone was already adjusting reality around those predictions.

Selina exhaled slowly.

Whatever this was…

it was no longer just about her analysis.

It was about control over her future before she could even reach it.

And for the first time—

Selina understood something clearly.

She was no longer moving through her life freely.

She was moving through something that was already moving around her.
