In an era of flint and bone, humanity sufferers the consequences of being far below the food chain. Kain, a desperate hunter, watches his kin wither under the shadow of famine and a nameless, unseen predator that stalks from within the tribe. In a final, bloody act of sacrifice, he calls to the void—and the void answers.
This act of desperation brings forth two unnatural creatures: an ancient boar and a pale bat, torn from their bestial forms and bound into human skin. Their mission is simple: eat everything that moves and bleeds red in the lands in two years, or be reverted back to the mindless beings they once were. But as they dwell among the frail humans they were meant to consume, a strange sickness takes root: mercy. And as a gang of beings more beast than human returns to finish the tribe, these two monsters must decide if they will remain the world's end, or its unlikely, terrifying guardians.
